A group of 2 couples stayed in both cottages at Red Cottages. We loved in and had such a wonderful time. We ensured we availed ourselves of all of the facilities - outdoor baths, table tennis, darts, home movie theatre in the shearing shed, roaring fires...the list goes on. Both cottages were beautiful although rather different in style and we simply enjoyed every moment of our stay. Nigel and Myriam were such thoughtful hosts, around to welcome us, unobtrusive throughout but in touch when they needed to be. The Cafe at Staveley became our new local, great coffee and food and goodies to take home. We went to ski at mount hutt and the cottage was very conveniently located for this. However, plenty of great walking in the local area. The most telling sign of a great place is that you dont want to leave the place whilst you are staying there. We stayed 3 nights and after the first night decided we wanted to stay home for dinner - it was just wonderful - local venison on the BBQ purchased from the Staveley cafe, great red wine, Lord of the Rings ( locally filmed) in the shearing shed, blankies and a roaring fire. What could be better? I would HIGHLY recommend a stay at this great little place with wonderful hosts. Thanks to Myriam and Nigel for creating and sharing such a super wee spot.…
We've stayed in hundreds of places travelling the world, caves, shacks, hostels and sometimes a bit more upmarket and Alton Cottage at Red House in Staveley has got to be in our top 5. A delightful well furnished cottage with very comfy bed and fab open fire, but the star of the place is the woolshed cinema. The outside baths are pretty special too. Give yourself a treat, stock up on food, wine and bubble bath and chill out.
Perfect cottage after a day exploring the local area. Very private.Cozy fire. Outdoor bath for star gazing. Comfy bed. We just didnt have time to watch a movie in the old woolshed. We will have to return
Myriam & Nigel could not have given us a better welcome, with the `welcome sign ` with our names on the cottage door & the lovely bottle of bubbly on the table for us. We had the smaller Red Cottage which was ideal, compact, but plenty of space for two guests, all amenities & both private & very quiet. The old sheep shearing shed cinema was good fun, we went three nights running. & finished all the pop corn! We passed on the two outside baths behind, but these would be great fun for many guests. Lovely local scenery, a very nice quality Restaurant (Stonechrubie) in Mt Somers, also a very friendly local (500m) cafe. All this combined with Nigel & Myriam being on hand, but never at all intrusive, they left us to enjoy ourselves, made this a lovely time for us both. We would most certainly look to return again, when we can. Many thanks to Nigel & Myriam.…
We had the most wonderful mini break staying in the Red Cottage. Everything was perfect – the well considered lighting up the path, the heated and welcoming cottage with a super fancy double sided fireplace, the candles to light whilst having a wine in the outdoor twin baths watching the stars, a huge super comfy bed and then waking up to the stunning views of the sheep and cows in the next door paddock with the mountains rising up behind, and a delicious breakfast spread. Myriam and Nigel were absolutely perfect hosts. This had been on our wish list for ages and I can’t imagine why we took so long – we’ll definitely be back sooner rather than later!!
