Travellers' Choice
Deep in the centre of Aotearoa's North Island, right in the middle of nowhere, is a very special place. The Timber Trail Lodge is set in the middle of a renowned conservation park featuring huge podocarp trees and rare birds, and is the only on-trail accommodation for the 84km Timber Trail cycle way. The off-grid, full service lodge opened in April 2017, sleeping 50 with a mix of double/twin and triple rooms. Some rooms have shared ablutions, whilst bedrooms in the second wing have en-suite bathrooms. The lodge has been designed so guests can experience sustainability in practice, and leave with a greater appreciation of minimising impacts and protecting natural environments. Guests enjoy healthy, nutritious meals with a focus on tasty, natural ingredients, in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Inclusive packages and group deals available.

We hadn’t done a lot of research (or training) and the thought the 2 night package sounded like a great idea. The ride was great, very challenging but well worth the effort. The logistics were smooth, and food was good & plentiful. But by far what made the vibe of the place so spectacular was the staff. They’re all so happy. Happy to be at work, proud of the lodge and the trail and just seem to want everyone to enjoy their time there. Great work team we were so very appreciative. You made our weekend.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. There was lots of food which was delicious. Everything was well organised, the shuttles were on time and and our driver told us great stories about the changers within the region. I think the lodge was good value for the money. 2 nights accommodation, 5 meals , 2 long shuttle rides. A pleasure to recommend to others.

Great weekend doing the Timber Trail, 2 nights at the Timber Trail Lodge worked perfectly. Fantastic local knowledge and stories from Rob in the shuttle, Kia Ora Rob! Accommodation is superb, clean and comfortable rooms, great food after a good days MTB riding and a beer or 2 from the bar. Locally owned and operated with great stewardship of local environment and land. Thoroughly recommended!

Fabulous stay at the Lodge. Friendly staff and tasty food. Welcomed with a hearty home made pizza and beverage of choice. The large wood burner in the communal lounge made this a very relaxed place to enjoy other riders company and share our stories. The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Our dinner was tasty and a cooked breakfast sent us on our way to complete the trail. We were provided with a packed lunch and plenty of resources were available to repair bikes, dry out our clothes and recharge ebikes. As many of us arrived at the lodge between 3.00 and 4.00, we felt maybe a 6.30 dinner instead of 7.00 would have suited us better. However Im sure others may have preferred the later dinner time. Thankyou Garth for your hospitality. We will definitely be back This has been a highlight in my biking calendar...maybe because I was on my new ebike this time!!!!!

Thank you for your very thorough and complimentary review of your stay with us. We are delighted that you had a great time. Thanks also for your suggestion in regards dinner timing - as we have guests arriving on shuttles in the early evening it would be difficult to move the dinner to an earlier time but we hope those complimentary pizzas help fill a gap! And there's nothing like chilling together by the fire or sneaking a little pre-dinner nana nap! Enjoy your new bike & we look forward to seeing you again.
