We booked this hotel because we were coming to town for a college visit. I picked it because of its location, which is definitely the best part. The property itself is nice, has a large lobby and entertaining area on the first floor. The room was decent, clean, no real problems with it. However, there are some problems that need to be addressed. First off, the parking lot! We were there on a Friday, along with some college teams, so I'm guessing it was booked solid. They have a 2 story parking garage. The top deck is fine. However, the bottom deck is small and cramped, with large pillars in the middle row. They need to have it so small cars park there, leaving the outside rows for larger vehicles. I drive a standard SUV, so nothing massively huge, but it would be tight and dangerous to park in the middle row with some of the trucks that were forced to use it. And make it difficult to exit the lot as well. Secondly, there are hotel entrances from the parking lot, which is great. However, they only require a key card during the overnight hours. Because of it's location, I feel that the doors should always require a key card for safety reasons. Third, I couldn't figure it out, and it's hard to describe, but there was something "running" the entire time I was in my room. It was similar to a furnace or other mechanical device, that just had a steady, constant humming noise in our room. I actually could hear it somewhat in the hallway as well. And no, we weren't even close to the elevators. It was somewhat annoying at times, when trying to sleep. The last thing is the breakfast, which was just OK. They were busy and had the buffet open. We both ordered that, but I would order off the menu next time. Some of the items on the buffet were cold. I'd rather wait a little bit and pay more for hot food. Again, the location is great, it's nice to walk to places downtown, including the rail car - which I totally recommend! And the view out our window was cool in the morning, when the fog came in! I would still probably consider staying here again if we come back, which is a high possibility since our son loved the college there. But I know these things now, and maybe a few things can change.

Cindy, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the hotel Location and found the hotel to be clean. That is always important to us. I know the parking can be tight on sold out nights. For a future trip we do also validate parking in the city garage next to the hotel as well. I have shared the comments about the noise with our maintenance team so we can find a solution to that noise. Overall, I am glad you enjoyed the hotel and I do hope we get to see you again soon.

The rooms are outdated, not aesthetically appealing and dingy. There was hair on the floor in the bathroom, the sink did not drain well at all and half the vanity lights were not working. The shower/tub was very narrow and I felt like I was balancing on a surf board while trying to take a shower. The bed was much harder than any other Holiday Inn that I’ve been in. The walls are so thin that I had to listen to the person in the next rooms text message alerts all morning. Breakfast was not included like normal Holiday Inns. Just not worth the money paid.

This hotel is in a good location right in downtown, easy to get around to Dubuque's attractions. The lobby is nice and the front desk very friendly. We were given a room on the 2nd floor and as soon as we opened the door it smelled of raw sewage went right back down to the desk to request a new room. The 2nd room was OK needs to be updated and the toilet you had to flush twice to get anything to go down. The furniture in the room is outdated and the hallway carpet needs to cleaned or replaced. On the positive side the hotel was very quiet and was able to get a good night’s rest until the next morning, around 8:30 house keeping kept banging on the door yelling house keeping I even had the do not disturb sign out but that didn't stop them, I opened the door and told them we're still hear and she said oh no apology just oh. It's an older hotel that needs updating. The outside and lobby look nice but that's a little deceiving, I would have expected a better product from Holiday Inn.

I appreciate you letting us know both the good and the bad from your stay. I will ensure we address the door knocking with our housekeeping team as no one wants to be awaked any earlier than they have to. I am sorry that was your final morning experience as I know we can do better. I hope we get try again with you in the future.

Stayed for two nights with my son. Room was okay, standard hotel beds and clean linens. Looks like they've tried to improve decor and carpet but doors don't close properly etc. Bottom of bathtub was creaky and felt like you could fall through. Also, I'm 6'4" and I barely fit in the shower and had to stoop down to get under the shower head. The pool is ridiculously small and the hot tub even more so. Elevators need some work. If elevators freak you out, don't use these. The middle one stopped on every floor on the way up to the top floor. The far left one (looking at them) took me to the 5th floor and then wouldn't let me out. I had to go down a floor and then back up and then the doors finally opened. With some. Work this could be an excellent hotel.

Thank you for the feedback about the bathrooms and the elevators. I am a tall person my self so I can sympathize with you about the showers. We are moving to an open top shower as we renovate guest rooms. We will continue to make those improvements. I will also make sure that we have someone look into the elevators to make sure everything is safe. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

The food in the restaurant was very good. The rooms were clean (though because of COVID they were not cleaned during our stay). Maybe a little tired, decor-wise, and in need of a spruce-up, but all-in-all, a good place to stay in Dubuque. Great downtown location.
