I got a great work out in a gym that had all the equipment anybody needs. The staff were so friendly every time I encountered them, and I had a conversation with the GM which in most places are behind closed doors. I’ll definitely staff again next month. Several options to eat & drink.

Visiting SB I had a choice of several Hilton properties (Gold member, so I usually pick Hilton for short hotel stays vs. abnb for longer ones). Glad I chose this - reasonably priced in comparison, spacious room, convenience of mico and fridge, 'right sized' (I tend to be in and out; high floors are just a pain). Friendly staff, gave great tip for walking around in the evening right by campus of two schools - ND in particular is worth an extended walk through. Reasonably convenient (driving) to a large grocery store / shopping center. Only downside was breakfast - it's sit down now (nice enough) but normally I eat more food to take me through the next day of sights. Still, overall very pleased and if I return to SB as a way between Chicago and say, Hickory Corners, this would be a good stopping point.

This was the first hotel I stayed at since the pandemic started and everything about the stay was excellent. The hotel was very clean - lots of clorox wipes and sanitizer readily available. The Bistro restaurant was very good for both breakfast and dinner. They took away the breakfast buffet and instead they serve the food to you but it's still all you can eat. To use the gym, they need to let you in instead of before where you just use your room card. I'm not sure if they limit the number of guests but I was the only one there. The hotel is only about a 5 min drive from the University of Notre Dame. All the staff from the front desk to the servers to housekeeping were all very friendly and helpful. I can't recommend this hotel enough. Thank you Hilton Garden Inn!

Our stay this past weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn South Bend was one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. Between business travel, family travel, and our son playing travel hockey, we have stayed at more than our fair share of hotels. This one was unique. And, not in a good way.
1. Our team reserved a "block of ten rooms." This "block" was scattered throughout the hotel. Different halls and different floors. Sort of defeats the purpose of reserving a "block."
2. Our team received a "special rate" by reserving the previously mentioned "block." the "special rate" was $152.00 per night, plus applicable taxes. The friends and families of the team which stayed without the "special rate" received at rate of $99.00 per night, plus applicable taxes. Again, sort of defeats the purpose of reserving a "block."
3. From previous experience, if you leave your towel on the floor, you are requesting new towels when housekeeping refreshes your room. When we returned to our room, beds were made, but toiletry products were not refreshed and our towels were still on the floor. Apparently, additional toiletries and fresh towels are upon request only.
4. The hotels security person sat in the widow sill at the end of the hallway and would not allow children or adults to mingle or communicate in the common hall area. This is absolutely absurd! The common areas are the appropriate area to have general conversation. The private rooms are the appropriate area to have time to yourself to relax. When the children and adults were informed that they were not allowed to mingle and communicate in the common hall area, they moved into a private room. Immediately following the hotels security knocked on the door of the private room and informed the children and adults that they had to either disperse of they would be asked to leave. Again, this is absurd! They immediately dispersed with three of the families going to the front desk. At the front desk, they had a conversation with the employee at the desk which informed them, there are not posted quiet times, she could not offer them a refund for the night if they left and that they would need to speak to the manager in the morning. The next morning, it was discovered that the manager with who we needed to speak with was there, and present in the employee area behind the front deck the previous night.
We will not be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn South Bend, and possibly any Hilton Garden Inn, after this horrible experience. And, I would highly recommend staying somewhere else.

Dear KentuckyBullOwner, Thank you for providing valuable feedback that we will use in our continuing effort to improve. While we always do our best to accommodate blocks of rooms it is not always possible due to the check-in, checkout patterns, and bed types per floor. We suggest that before checking in to a hotel you call ahead of time and put this request in your reservation. We would be happy to check on the rates of other guests that stayed at the hotel. The group rate for your block was negotiated in advance and required by the organization in order to play in the tournament. Our retail rate for that weekend was at $174. The guests could have had a Hilton honors discount but, we wouldn’t be able to check without knowing their names. Thank you for bringing it to our attention regarding the security guard. We hire them to keep everyone safe. This will be addressed with the security company we outsource. I am so sorry that your stay was less than perfect. If there is anything else please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Warm regards, Matthew

We stayed in this hotel as a sporting event team. Some of the parents were in the hallway talking and were asked to go to a room by a security guard. We followed the rules and went in a room. The security guard came back and threatened us we were going to be kicked out of the hotel for having a conversation in a room. Totally disrespectful and our team had rented over 10 rooms for a multiple night stay.
Think twice about staying here if you have kids or going to have multiple people in a room.

We returned here because of several reasons: 1) Hilton property , 2) can use points to avoid outrageous hotel prices in area for ND football games, 3) shuttle service to campus on game day (return after game is not done by hotel but by using parking shuttle returns to nearby St. Mary's so not totally aboveboard), 4) decent hotel property although it's starting to show its age, 5) free parking, etc.
We arrived an hour or so before check-in time and were told rooms were not ready, even for Diamond status. It's amazing how all the rooms magically become available at or soon after check-in time???? This is poor and inefficient management! We were assigned a room for those with mobility problems a few days before our arrival so we had lots of open space and bars in the bathroom. Not sure why and they wouldn't change to a regular room? Rooms are clean but showing age. There was a champagne reception on Friday afternoon (although the champagne was from California so not real champagne by definition). Due to Hilton's changing policies, a full breakfast with hot food is no longer complimentary for top HiltonHonors members. There is a $20 daily credit (for 2 guests in total) so it's a reduced price but still a greedy policy by Hilton corporate so not the hotel's fault except in setting the prices for their breakfast, in particular, which varies from one HGI to another. The area is safe, and the hotel is closely tied to the St. Mary's Inn next door (i.e. shuttle service) . Next time, we may skip renting a car and try to get a decent rate with points at the Embassy Suites adjacent to campus and within 500 yards of the stadium. I do still recommend this property if you are passing through the area and can get a decent rate. All of the people were nice, and my only issue with staff was the "nothing" available an hour a check-in" reaction. Go Irish! Note: We were there for the Stanford game so it wasn't a great "football' weekend. We left before halftime and walked back to the hotel due to the "worst" half of ND football in decades!

Hotel is a typical Hilton in quality, very nice overall. The problem is that during football weekends they increase the price of staying over 3-4X the normal rate. And they cut back on basis room services, room cleaning and coffee bar refills. Just not fair!

Here's the good stuff: the folks who work there are friendly and polite. The lobby is attractive and there's free coffee in the am. There are lots of outlets in the rooms for charging stuff. Free parking, too. Here's the other stuff: there is way too much air freshener, everything reeks. The rooms are plain, cold and boring. The lighting glares. The AC/Heat works sometimes and sometimes, it doesn't. The furniture is pretty beat-up. I bet there are better places to stay in South Bend.

Really loved the time spent here. Staff was great, very friendly helpful and a pleasure to talk with. Hotel is currently getting rooms refurbished and refreshed, stayed in newer reconditioned room and couldn’t be happier. Even though hotel is being refurbished they are doing a great job as to not inconvenience any guest.

This hotel was very clean and accommodating. I like that there was a pool except only one person at a time could use it. It was nice to have drinks and food available. The wedding we attended there was beautiful and the food was great!

As others have said the front desk is very helpful.
Yes, The campus is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. With the new additional of lighted pathway just across the street from the hotel will get you to the campus in not time. We do caution as the street you must cross is busy but there is a stop light and cross walk.
Thank you for your inquiry, we do provide a shuttle that does go to and from the campus however, due to regulations the shuttle is only permitted on campus up to 2 hours before kick-off and not until 2 hours post game. The hotel shuttle service is complimentary and provided on a first come first served basis. Other options would include a shuttle bus which is offered for a nominal fee, offering transportation during the same hours as the hotel shuttle, and picks up on the campus of Saint Mary's adjacent to the hotel. In addition to shuttle service, our location is just a 15 minute walk thru beautiful trails, a perfect stroll on a beautiful fall day!
We look forward to serving you....
