Detailed Reviews
We came to the area for a wedding and originally booked a different hotel, which turned out to be horrible. After a terrible night at the other place I called Fairfield Inn & Suites first thing in the morning and asked if we could reserve 3 rooms, and more importantly check in immediately as we had a wedding to get ready for and couldn’t wait for the normal check in time. Katie at the front desk was AMAZING! She listened to our needs, immediately confirmed we could check in ASAP. When we arrived she was so friendly and helpful. Our rooms were so beautiful, clean, spacious and had everything we needed! Katie was able to give us 3 rooms next to each other and even gave us snack bags with juice, fruit and a granola bar as she was worried we might not have eaten yet with the hotel transferring drama. I wish we had booked at Fairfield Inn & Suites originally and will always stay here for any future visits! Thank you Katie!!

We spent the day in New Buffalo and decided to spend the night in South Bend. We checked in later in the evening. Ryan was working the front desk. He did a great job checking us in and even suggested a different room due to some other wedding guests in the building that may be up later. We got into our room and discovered our bathroom sink was leaking pretty badly. We informed Ryan and he promptly confirmed the issue and took us to another room, which was very much appreciated! The room was nice and quiet and we had no other issues. After a good night’s sleep, we were ready to check out the free breakfast. Martin was a one man show! He was attentive and polite to guests and very efficient at refilling any items as they got low. Ryan and Martin turned what could have been a pretty average experience into an extraordinary customer experience! We would be happy to stay at this location again!

Thank you for taking the time to submit the survey. I'm very pleased to hear that Ryan was able to turn around an unfortunate situation with the first room you were placed in. And very pleased to hear that Martin was able to get you and your day started out right. Your comments are very much appreciated and will be passed along! We hope to see you again when your travels bring you back to Notre Dame!

This property is conveniently located to the Notre Dame Campus in the Eddy Street Commons area. It is very close to all of the athletic facilities, and a short walk to the main park like campus.
Given the difficulty in hiring staff in these economic times, the general manager ((Kyle) needed to perform many of the routine tasks. I observed him socking the breakfast area, taking the garbage out of the hotel, and working the main desk. It is rare to find such devotion and hard work.
Parking is available outside and behind the property. It is a relatively new building, and I found the facilities clean and well maintained. The shortage of staff is what keeps me from providing a five star recommendation.

Visited The Fairfield Inn at South Bend, Indiana for a 2 night stay 5/10-5/12/20 and was thoroughly disappointed.
Despite the hotel being almost empty during the pandemic (with the exception of 3 cars plus our own in the parking lot) the reservation clerk assigned us a room right next door to another guest! With a nearly empty hotel, one would ask why risk the potential for lack of social distancing upon entering or exiting the room or moving about the floor? When my husband inquired he was told “they had no rooms of similar configuration”. We are talking about two queens. Hard to believe with an empty hotel!!!!
The new room we were given had a beeping sound upon entry which we found to be a malfunctioning telephone handset. This required yet another trip down to the front desk to address. The reservation clerk had no idea why the phone was beeping or what to do about it. The handset was not replaced for the 2 night stay- btw it was a dead battery!
Within hours of checking into our new room the key card malfunctioned which necessitated yet another trip down to the front desk. This malfunction happened on 4 other occasions requiring more trips down to the front desk each time to remedy. Very inconvenient every time you leave your room. The final time was the morning of checkout and the manager had no reply when I told him this was a big inconvenience to not be able to get into your room every time you go out. He simply ignored my comment.
Very unhappy and will not be using for future stays at Notre Dame. If they can’t get it right with close to zero capacity how could they possibly with a full house?

We have stayed at this property a few times for Notre Dame football games and visits with our ND children. We have been horribly disappointed each time. The lobby and elevator are always so dirty, leaving a bad impression immediately (elevator photos below). And this last stay for the USC game, our bathroom hadn't been cleaned when we entered the room at 11 pm after a long day of travel. There were visible signs of use in the toilet that I won't describe here. If it hadn't been so late, we would have asked to move rooms but were too tired. It is absolutely crazy that this hotel charges $1,000-$2,000 per night for these accommodations on football weekends/ND events. I have always assumed this would be an upgraded Marriott property for the prices charged and it is the exact opposite. It should be immaculately cleaned for these prices. We are Titanium Elite Marriott members, and I can honestly say this is the worst Marriott property I have ever stayed at and again at the prices they charge it is unfathomable. Please take the necessary steps to upgrade the cleanliness/housekeeping of your hotel so that Notre Dame guests can have a viable Marriott property close to campus.

When you walk in the door there is a posted notice that Everyone must wear a mask. No one was wearing a mask - not the night clerk, the morning clerk, or the maintainer I encountered. That is totally unacceptable.
Also, the hotel is really tired and in need of some repairs, a total painting and cleaning, new furnishings, and so forth.
They also did not have enough breakfast bags to go around.
Skip this one.

Do not stay in Room 209! All you hear is the front doors opening and closing at all hours of the day and night. Terrible for sleeping. Housekeeping failed to clean our room, the first at our choice the second night for no reason at all. We left the room at 9 AM and returned at 3 and no housekeeping
The check in was very disappointing as well, while it was at 1:30 AM the clerk could not have been more rude.
Location is good for visiting Notre Dame and the Eddy Street shopping district.

Sandra K, Thank you for your honest feedback regarding your recent stay. As the new General Manager on the property, input from our valued guests is critical for me to understand where we need to focus our efforts. This feedback is certainly concerning and in no way reflective of the experience we wish to deliver. We will address these issues and hope you give us a chance to better your experience the next time your travels bring you to the South Bend area.

Great location. But be aware: you cannot set your room's HVAC fan to always on. I like doing that to drown out noise while sleeping. You typically can do this in virtually all hotels, except this one for some reason. (And this is a relatively new hotel, built in 2010 and still in excellent condition. ) All the controls will allow you to do is to set the fan speed to Hi or Low, when the thermostat activates the unit. So, when the heat or AC cycles on, WHOOOSH!, it makes a loud sound, enough to wake everyone in the room. Your only alternative to get a decent night's rest is to shut off the HVAC unit and use your iPhone to play some YouTube background noise for 8 hours. Secondly, the non-continental options for breakfast are microwave turkey sausage or bacon with egg/cheese sandwiches. I have to say, they're heavily processed and so full of chemicals they have a weird dull flavor and aftertaste. Marriott needs to do better. *****Last thing: they charge you $11 per night for parking.

We tried to cancel one night of our two-night stay in advance and the phone number listed for the front desk does not work. We get a “Welcome to Verizon Wireless. Your call cannot be completed.” Corporate Marriott said they were unable to help.

Clean, friendly staff, convenient location. Breakfast was average. The location is very walkable with restaurants, Trader Joe’s and Notre Dame just a short walk from the hotel. The lobby was large and a good place to meet up with your group.
