Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for a baseball tournament for 4 nights/ 5 days. The hotel is beautiful and the lobby big enough for the parents of the team to get together in the evenings. The rooms are modern and clean. The only downfall is the lack of regular cleaning of our room. With two adults and two children staying in one room for 5 days it needs maid service. Our room was not cleaned once, even though both my Husband and I requested to be cleaned multiple times. The other issue we had, was that our room keys were deactivated every time we left the hotel, causing us to have to go down to the lobby multiple times to get new keys. In regards to parking, there is a parking lot one block away that is much cheaper and even free on weekends. It was convenient and cost effective.
With all that being said, we still very much enjoyed our stay. The biggest asset to this hotel is Sam at the front desk. He was pleasant, helpful and did everything in his power to make it right when I approached him to solve the issue of our room not being cleaned. Sam deserves to be recognized for his great customer service and ability represent the hotel with professionalism and kindness.

Having our daughter recently move to South Bend area, this was our first overnight trip to the area. I researched all the hotels in the area and based on reading through numerous reviews and looking at value I selected Courtyard South Bend Downtown.
Short review: Courtyard Downtown will be our hotel of choice with every return trip to South Bend.
Three key reasons:
1. Associates. Every associate we can in contact was personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. I do remember names to individuals I believe do an outstanding job. Jennifer (front desk) was the first individual we met coming into the hotel. We requested a specific room type, and Jennifer placed us in the perfect room! Thank you Jennifer. Through the evening Susan was the front desk associate. We have a couple requests and Susan delivered on every one with a smile. Susan excelled at making my wife and I feel VIP. Many thanks Susan. Finally checking out we dealt with Amber. Amber provided an awesome final impression of the hotel and stay. Thank you Amber.
2. Location. The hotel truly was the perfect location for a memorable stay. The hotel is location downtown South Bend and right across the street from the major park and St. Joseph River. We walked to dinner in the evening, in which there are several very nice restaurants within walking distance. The was a festival at the park the evening of our stay, which was nice to walk throughout the park. We ran in the morning, which there is a beautiful paved trail that runs for miles and miles along the St. Joseph River.
3. Quality and Value. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and outside seating area. The hotel is also extremely well built which makes for a very relaxing and restful stay. Great night sleep. Not know the area, I am always unsure of an area until we stay. Courtyard Downtown is located in an extremely safe area. Felt perfectly safe walking around at night and during our early morning run.
Thanks to everyone for a memorable stay, and we look forward to a return trip.

Clean rooms, very friendly staff, and the ambiance of the lobby is very welcoming. We stayed for a convention and were there 4 nights. After the first night, even though we had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door, the housekeeping left us a bag of extra towels outside our door and that ended up being SO helpful! I love staying here and look forward to going again next year.

We were there for 3 nights. Never had housekeeping. The first time I called the front desk they said it is only offered before 9am (I called at 11am) they said the best they could do is send towels (they didn't). The next day they said they don't provide housekeeping on "Game Days" - this is ridiculous! I would never expect such poor service from a Marriott chain hotel. Won't stay there again! Many better choices available - Embassy Suites, Morris Inn for example.

Avoid this hotel. I have been traveling for business for over 40 years. I estimate that I have spent over 4000 nights in hotels around the world. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed 5 days at the Courtyard downtown South Bend and had no hot water the entire stay and had no maid service. Complaints about the lack of our room being cleaned and the lack of hot water for showers drew apologies from the front desk, but no solution. Expecting hot and cold running water is the most basic requirement yet this hotel could not deliver.

Guaranteed a king room. They gave my room away and offered no options. When we arrived, we found out the hotel was booked for a kids lacrosse tournament. Kids upstairs jumped off the beds all evening and the furniture in our room shook. We called and asked the front desk to do something and again they did not nothing. I called Marriott and complained - they did nothing. Stay somewhere else. There are other options in South Bend where the hotels care about the guests.

The staff, location and amenities of this Courtyard location were AMAZING for our family. From Melissa who served us breakfast, remembered later to ask how our son's team did in his hockey game that day, and offered to be ready with coffee the next morning when I mentioned the next game was at 6 am, to the front desk team who welcomed us. There's a FOOTBALL field* that kids can play on across the street, a chocolate store, amazing breakfast places with pancakes and french toast, all steps from the hotel entrance! (*The former College Football Hall of Fame was in South Bend.) My son asked if we could just live in this hotel. The Art Museum is across the street as well.

Lovely hotel, clean, quiet, nice amenities. The staff was great, rooms are spacious. The pool was fantastic. The only thing I would knock off is if you are a woman travelling alone, the parking situation isn't ideal. The valet is discontinued right now due to pandemic, and the only parking lot is a tiny one behind the hotel next to the alley, if that's full you have to park across the street at the century center parking lot that is DARK and not monitored. My daughter and I were accosted crossing the street by an unsavory gentleman at 1030 pm at night, scared the life out of us, luckily a brunos driver showed up and he stepped away, but it did make us purchase pepper spray for the duration of our visit. I expressed my concern to the night clerk.

Our Son and his fiancee choose this Courtyard for their wedding weekend. My wife and I booked 6 rooms, one of which was a suite. for 2 nights. It was difficult dealing with the staff the weeks prior to our check-in, during our stay and after our stay. The groom left a suit in the closet of the suite and we were given several different stories; they couldn't look in the room until later in the week because the room was occupied, the ass't manager Lexi looked in the closet, (she never asked for room numbers) and they couldnt look in the room because the cleaning staff had the holiday weekend off. Suit gone and they shrug their shoulders. We also made up welcome bags and left at the front desk for out of town guests. There was a cancellation so we went down Friday to retrieve the unused welcom bag and the front desk staff didnt know where it was. There is no GM just a set of ass't managers who clearly make very little effort. Think twice about booking in this hotel.

I've had rude treatment before, but this place is over the top. We have trying to book a meeting room for a day for the past week and have not had much luck. They have trouble answering the telephone. They have not returned several voice messages and now the front desk person hangs up on me when I call yet gain to try to give this place some business.
