Detailed Reviews
You really couldn't ask for a better location to put a hotel. Centrally located in a very walkable city and close to all the college campuses in town. When I reserved the room I did put a request in for a room high up (there are 17 stories) to be able to take in the view. When we arrived at check in, we were placed on the 8th floor, but when I pointed out I requested to be higher, we were placed on the 16th floor with no trouble or fuss. What a gorgeous view of the Notre Dame golden dome and mosaic church!
The room is spacious with lots of places to place luggage. There is a small refrigerator in the bathroom. Water pressure and temp in the shower were good, but be aware that the tiled floor in the shower is very, very slippery with no grab bars or places to hang a wash cloth inside the shower. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner are provided in pump bottles attached to the shower wall and are of good quality.
The pool (on the 6th floor) was terrific. Small and pretty shallow, but warm and clean. It was just us in there when we used it, but a sign says it could accomadate 75 people, but you would be pretty much shoulder to shoulder. There are two nice showers for before and after your swim, and there is a lift at the side of the pool to lift you into the water if you are differently abled.
We did not use the breakfast option or visit the pretty bar, but the folks there, mostly younger business folks seemed to be having a great time. We used the on sight parking ramp that was secure, convenient to the elevators and reasonably priced at 15 dollars for the night.
Try the Irish pub just one door down for a great meal and friendly service.

We found a deal with this impressive hotel in downtown South Bend. It occupies the tallest building in South Bend and the views are wonderful! From check in to check out, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, their restaurants were not open, but they did have bar service on the Saturday night we stayed there. Melissa was the bartender and was awesome with conversation and service to the many customers.
Parking is in a garage in the building and has free access in and out after check in. Spaces can be a little tight but we managed well.
The St. Joseph River is only a couple of blocks (easy walk) from this property. There are lots of options for enjoying the river views, especially at night when the river lights are on.
I highly recommend this property and will definitely stay there again when through South Bend. I'm now more drawn to staying at Aloft Hotels at other locations.

Convenient stop off i80. Much nicer than other options in the area. Professional and friendly check in - Sally acknowledged my Platinum status and promptly upgraded my room to a top floor corner. Room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in an old building...although I was at the end of the hallway I could hear the elevator running all night. I could also hear other guests closing the door to their rooms. I finally put in ear plugs around 1am - problem solved, but if you don’t like ear plugs this hotel might not be the best option. Also if you’ve never been to downtown South Bend there is nothing going on...a couple of restaurants within walking distance and that’s it. If you arrive late at night don’t expect many snacks for sale in the lobby or a microwave in the room.

The hotel is located in a part of town that doesn't offer much, but the hotel is clean, trendy and if hanging out at the bar is your kind of thing it may suit you. If you are looking for quiet time and sleep after working 10 hours you may want to look else where. The walls are paper thing and they allow dogs (I'm a dog lover) and some owners feel is OK to bring their dogs to leave in the room alone, so your ears can babysit them. The WIFI was very spotty, so I always to to reconnect after several minutes. The one thing that really bothered me was the fact that I wasn't told about a parking fee, which made no sense since the gate was always open and parking accross the street was free. I may try this hotel again next time I'm in town on business, but they have to address some of these challenges.

Passing through and staying for one night, was told on check in that they were over-sold and only had a queen instead of the king we paid for. Juliette was very nice and comped us for our disappointment. Other problem was we have an oversized truck and couldn't fit in their secure parking. Juliette told us to park in their "bus parking" area on the street but reiterated they could not guarantee safety. We went out to the truck and contemplated going to a different hotel, gathered our luggage after parking on the street and entered the hotel. Upon entering, Esmeralda, the supervisor, called us by name and explained that a king room (an upgrade of the king I purchased) became available and she was giving it to us. I tried to give back the drinks and breakfast previously comped and both Juliette and her said "no" keep those. When I additionally expressed our reservation about the safety of our vehicle parking, Esmeralda asked if we'd be more comfortable if it was parked out front in the loading zone directly in front of the hotel. We said yes and that is where we parked in full view of the front desk all night. We were astounded at the level of service, above and beyond normal. We highly recommend this hotel. Oh and the accommodations were perfect. Bed was perfect. Aloft should be proud to have such employees as Esmeralda and Juliette.

The Aloft hotel is located in a busy part of South Bend, so it was a little challenging for me to know where to park my rental vehicle. I called the hotel and received great instructions to pull up and park in front of the entrance of the hotel on Main Street where there were designated parking zones for hotel guests. I was able to check in and take my suitcase up to my room, then move my car to the parking garage. Hotel parking under the hotel was easy to access on Washington Street and parking for the hotel is on the 4th and 5th floor levels. My room was very clean and comfortable, which gave me peace of mind during this pandemic. I was happy that the Wxyz bar restaurant was open, and I ordered their salmon dinner which was somewhat healthy and definitely delicious, especially since I did not have to ask for extra lemon. I appreciated the two bar tenders Libby and Nicole; both gave exceptional service and I was even given a free mini dessert from the special monthly wine event that the hotel sponsors. Eventually, I hope they will add some desserts to their bar menu. I only stayed there one night since I had an early morning flight out of the South Bend International Airport which is only 10 minutes away. I look forward to staying at this hotel again when I am in South Bend.

We booked as part of a wedding block. Multiple wedding events were scheduled at the hotel. Aloft South Bend oversold rooms and "walked" other members of the block to another hotel, but did nothing to compensate them (monetarily or otherwise) for its poor business practices. On top of that, rather than calling affected guests, the hotel's director of catering, who clearly has nothing to do with booking rooms, was tasked with sending an email to alert those affected.
For those that did stay they had to deal with an overfilled parking area and out-of-control guests (unrelated to the wedding) that the hotel did little or nothing to address.
We have stayed at other Alofts and enjoyed our time, but we will not stay at Aloft South Bend again, nor will we recommend it to friends or family. Even if we did, they'd likely have to stay elsewhere in the event Aloft South Bend overbooked again.

Response from Director of Sales, Sales at Aloft South Bend
Responded 29 Sept 2022
Good morning, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely apologize for the disruption to your friends and family. We do not practice intentional overselling of the property. It is never our intent to have to relocate or walk a guest. We did determine that relocation was inevitable for several guests this past weekend. Our Director of Catering, who booked this particular group, and I shared the experience of contacting our Guests more than 24 hours prior to arrival with alternate accommodations, at the same rate, at the other hotel that was also chosen by the Bride & Groom, and where a large number of other Wedding Guests were also staying. It was best determined to keep everyone in the same two properties, one block apart. Phone calls are always the first choice in communicating with Guests, however, phone numbers were not included in the reservations, and email was our only option. I had conversations with several of the guests when they responded to the email by phone. Because this was a relocation, and Guests were notified more than 24 hours in advance of arrival, it was not considered a walk. Our hope was to lessen the discomfort of being relocated by taking action in advance, rather than the more intense inconvenience of arriving at the hotel on the day of a great celebration and being told there was no room. As in many hotels, there was a variety of groups and guests in the hotel on a very busy weekend in the City. We have an energetic space in the hotel that many people enjoy. I will talk with our team to learn more about the out-of-control situation that you mentioned and we will use it as a learning opportunity for the future. I do hope that you will allow us an opportunity in the future to make this right for you.

I wandered into the Aloft one chilly, rainy night with a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile. The bar was cozy and warm with the ambiance reminiscent of a chandelier lit ball with a 21st century twist. Rodney, the glowing, swoopy-haired bartender, greeted my friend and I with the utmost hospitality and fixed drinks only fit for frikkin royalty. *tilts crown*.
Much bartender. Very drinks. Wow. Many good.

I checked at the front desk to see the rates for a last-minute getaway to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. When I started talking to Alvin, not only was he incredibly professional and friendly, he went above and beyond in hooking us up in the Presidential Suite for our celebration. This was our first night without children in over 7 years, and it was 100 times better because of Alvin.
The hotel was a great vibe, the room was beautiful and clean, and all in all, a great visit. Will definitely be back whenever I'm looking for a place to stay in South Bend

Our introduction to this hotel was walking up to find a lobby open to the street with loud music and lots of 20-somethings spilling out onto the sidewalk. Check-in was smooth. The ride up in the elevators was an experience, with loud rock music blaring (I should say, we are fans of rock and punk music, but this was really loud, even for us). Our room was clean but had a rather odd lay-out. Breakfast was not included, but the hotel is situated close to several restaurants, so this was no problem (try the Fiddler's Hearth). We certainly didn't have a bad stay at this Aloft, but I think it's just a bit too hip for us.

Good afternoon! We are two short blocks from the Century Center.
You park in a parking garage and the fee is $10 for 24hrs. The parking garage is very secure and also around the clock security.
At least 18 I believe.
