Unfortunately we can't give it SIX stars!! Gary the handsome was simply wonderful, told the story beautifully and the wines were wonderful. I cannot rate this experience more highly. Thank you Gary and thank you to the wineries who are part of the cellar door. Best father's day ever!

We stayed here for a weekend away and found their weekend package deal too good to miss. Staff were extremely friendly and polite throughout and the property is in a gorgeous location, right in the middle of the vineyard (however, beware, the main road is also within visibility and we heard traffic all night).

The cottage itself is very comfy and clean, as is the bathroom (though we had an issue getting the shower temperature right- an often found hotel problem). The two main bug bears for which I deduct a point in the overall rating: The property commits the cardinal sins of all accommodation by promising a King bed but then presenting you with two singles that are shoved together. No cuddling, no romance, just a nasty gap in between the single beds. And the mattresses were not even comfy, besides being single size. And the worst? The property dares to mention "Superking, super comfy beds" in their room description and then gives you wobbly single mattresses.

Second issue is the fact the the property insists on only accepting Visa and Mastercard- that while charging in excess of $50 for most bottles of wine! I know it's a stingy Kiwi problem but we noticed that most wineries in the area actually accept AMEX and other more exotic cards like JCB even. Kinross lost the sale of a couple of expensive wines there to save a few bucks on the oh so horrid commission that American Express charges. Not good enough- customer centricity means letting your guests pay like they prefer and not like you make them to!

We'll be back for the pretty location and the great staff, no doubt, but would hope that the property gets more comfy beds and starts accepting a more varied choice of credit cards for payment.

Hi there, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. We have a small team, so everyone reads and takes on board every review we receive. We are so pleased you enjoyed our friendly staff, and the location. Our beds, as you say, are like many other hotels where we have two singles that get zipped together to make a large superking bed for couples. We then use extremely thick and plush soft mattress toppers overlaid to ensure comfort level and consistency. We receive many comments about how incredibly comfy our beds are, including couples, so we are very sorry to hear that you did not find the bed comfortable. We understand bed comfort differs for every person. Our team will double check the beds as they should not have been wobbly. In regards to your payment query for AMEX – I am sorry you were not offered an Amex facility to purchase off-licence wine, as we do provide this. AMEX has significant charges that would need to be added to our on-licence prices and we do not want to do so. We are a small business that is the cellar door to five local wineries. Our costs of wine are developed directly with the producers. We have 12 bottles of wine on our current wine menu that are under $50, and we try not to add too many extra costs so wines are at a price guests can enjoy. Thanks again for your feedback and you are more than welcome to get in touch personally to discuss any of this further if you like. Please email info@kinross.nz and we can chat through any further concerns. Many thanks, Nicky

I stayed 3 nights from 9-12 Feb to make sure we can enjoy the place , there is nothing to complain about this place, everything is perfect and yet the cost is affordable for what we received .

The cottage itself is new, super clean, spacious , with style and very heart-warming, the view from the room is amazing . The amount of guest staying every day is just good that it would be too crowd and noisy. I can see everyone enjoying it .

The vineyard is lovely and we love just chilling around . The wine garden is very relaxing and the wine tasting is informative and just give extra points to the stay.

The breakfast is not just cereal bar but also the hot dish is very well made, and it’s inCluded in the price. I had dinner one night at the bristo, again food is very good.

Also the girls at the bristo is very very friendly and helpful, I arrived very late my first night to check in and the first moment we met I know she was expecting me and welcomed me warmly. Even the vineyard staff looking after the grapes gave us big smile while we just hanging around the place .

Only thing to mind for is that you need a car and expect 20 mins to the heart of queenstown, but why rush when you are on holiday .

I will definitely stay again next time! There is no reason not to recommend this place .

A decent location amongst winefields and the individual chalets were ok although semi detached types so you can hear neighbours.
Katie on reception was lovely and staff in week good, Friday was different as staff were less interested and the bistro ( cafe area ) was more for pretentious locals who took over.
We then got ripped off at $18 for a small glass of wine.
The free pizza as you were staying was a nice touch was good but breakfast was limited and after one cup of tea you had to pay extra for another teabag and hot water.
The free wine tasting was free, but not very good and was a case of these are five glasses of wine, which one do you prefer!
The plus being on the doorstep of great walks and stunning country..but would not stay again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are sorry your experience with us did not meet your expectations. I would like to respond to some of your comments to help future guests understand our offering here at Kinross......... - We represent 6 local, artisan wineries who all produce small quantities of premium wines. $18 per glass is a fair price representation of any of these wines, and the wine you ordered was one of the most awarded wines in the country. - You stayed with us during Covid Level 2, so our breakfast menu was reduced, due to all the hospitality restrictions we are operating under and reflecting the ultra low room rates we are offering in the Staycation package you purchased. Our team is very disappointed they did not meet your expectations, but take some heart from seeing that you rarely give more than a 3 bubble rating in any of your Tripadvisor reviews.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful staycation at Kinross. The cottage we stayed in was modern with everything you needed while still feeling cozy and secluded. We enjoyed the hot tub under the stars with a glass of wine and was given a cute basket with extra towels and wine glasses for us to use. The location is perfect, only 25 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown but you feel like you are much more remote. We enjoyed walking the vineyard, doing a wine tasting, playing bocce, and taking in the views. It’s also very close to neighboring wineries making it extremely easy to walk to them. We enjoyed lunch and breakfast at the bistro and they were both excellent. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I cannot recommend Kinross enough and will definitely be back!

Husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in a cottage that overlooked the vines - stunning scenery. The room was large with good facilities including a microwave, small fridge and small stove top as well as an oven; tea and coffee supplied along with the best fresh milk I’ve ever had!
The bathroom was a good size with a shower over the bath and it was great there was a step to get into the bath as it is quite high! I was worried about the interconnecting room but we didn’t really hear the people next door.
We enjoyed the wine tasting, breakfast was reasonable and we thoroughly enjoyed the platter we had to take away after the wine tasting. Friendly staff and great wines!
This is a working vineyard and as would be expected there’s a little bit of noise, some flies but there were ear plugs and insect repellent which was a nice touch! It was just a shame the 2 nights we stayed the restaurant was closed at night! But you can get food to take to your room. We would definitely come back and next time stay when we can enjoy the dinner too!

Our apologies for the bistro being closed - this is a temporary measure as we move through the Omicron peak to ensure we minimise our hours and don't burn out our staff. It's been a long haul over the past few years to get through and keep our amazing team members looked after. We cannot wait to be back to full steam really soon! This was an awesome break away from the normal after lock down. Great location with many thinks to do. The out side area with the huge open fire place was fantastic to sit in front of on the couches and was a great way to meet people from all over. The staff there were second to none, it was service with an smile and it was not because they had to it was because they loved doing what they do. The restaurant was nice and cosy and the food blew the taste buds away. The location was great as the Queenstown bike trail was right out side the gate and just off to right (3-4 minutes walk) the is a lovely brewery to sit at at and enjoy their beer.
All in all it was a lovely weekend away, thanks to all the friendly staff who made our staff extremely enjoyable and fun
Highly recommend Kinross

Kinross Cottages is located an easy 25 min drive from Queenstown in the stunning Gibbston Valley. We stayed in Autumn, and the frosty view from our cottage when we woke up was breathtaking. The cottage looked out over the vines, giving it a peaceful, bucolic feel. The on-site cellar door and bistro offer wine tastings and delicious food in a welcoming environment you could happily spend hours in. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the sommelier who guided us through our wine tasting was friendly, knowledgable and professional. We were in our happy place :) We also had our well-behaved dog with us and it was lovely to stay in boutique accommodation which is genuinely pet-friendly. We will definitely be recommending Kinross Cottages to friends and family.

We didn't stay @ the cottages but did enjoy our cellar door tasting experience with Sam....he was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Six of the local Gibbston wineries have their wines available for tasting here.....which makes it a one stop shop! Our favourites were Valli wines and the Hawkshead pinot noir, one that we were completely unfamiliar with but very impressed by. There is a $15 tasting fee that is waived on purchase over $50 :) Recommend that you drop in here and ask for Sam.

The reviews are spot on. What a fabulous place to stay if you want to be away from the traffic, noise and people cramming into Queenstown CBD and outer suburbs.
The room was well appointed with very comfortable beds and the all important pillows! Small touches that make all the difference.
We mixed up dining in and eating out with great facilities to cook in. Had degustation and wine matching which was excellent - thank you Paul. Great to wander down from our room and back again under starry skies satisfied with generous portions and delicious food.
Breakfast was always worth attending and a time to meet smiling and very help staff treating us with decent barista coffee or whatever drink you desired and delicious breakfast options.
The office staff were very helpful and we enjoyed it so much we stayed another week after a short trip to Stewart Island.
Keen to come back in summer to enjoy the warmth and different perspective of the beautiful Gibbston valley
One downside if you are a light sleeper is there is road noise that does start up early morning with commuters heading into Queenstown otherwise it is very quiet after 7pm. Nice touch with earplugs for those that need them.
Thank you To the Kinross team for such a wonderful, good value and relaxing stay.

Hi there, this is Christine, the owner of Kinross. So sorry its taken us so long to answer, I thought I had posted the answer to your question last week, but it didn't go through! So the answer is that we don't have laundry facilities, but some of our guests are happy to do hand washing and we have some drying racks we can lend you. The rooms are spacious so there is plenty of room to have the drying rack up, or else on a sunny day out of the deck works too. If you were in a real pickle, Jeremaia our manager would probably lend you his personal laundry facilities in his home, if you asked really nicely! Hope this helps, and happy travelling. Christine
