Nestled near Notre Dame, the Hilton Vacation Club Varsity Club in South Bend comes highly recommended for its cleanliness and charming, campus-inspired atmosphere. The spacious rooms with kitchen areas are a hit among guests, although some have flagged issues with hot water and door security.
While the hotel's location earns praise for its quiet environment and easy access to attractions, travelers are delighted by the professional staff and efficient service. However, guests should be mindful of additional fees, and some have noted the need for modern charging solutions.

Hotel's Favourite
Our stay was met with friendly, kind and accommodating staff. The room was fantastic and met all our needs. The amenities were a welcome treat as it was 30 degrees outside. The cost of the room even with the $10.00 per day resort fee was well worth it. The value was definitely there at this hotel. We will be sure to stay here again in the future.

We are owners with Diamond Resorts and not big fans but we were so impressed with our stay here that we booked a weekend for our daughter's family for November. First the negative. Like many Diamond properties, the furniture is very uncomfortable. The pool was too cold for us but the hot tub was nice. Oddly, the hot tub was in the exercise room so you could not go in the pool then warm up in a near by hot tub. We had a deluxe one bedroom that included a full size refrigerator, 2 burner stove, dishwasher, coffee maker and blender. There are lots of grills and outside tables that families used and were having a great time. Check in was friendly and covid compliant. The included breakfast was a grab and go arrangement and more than we could eat. Notre Dame is close by. Within 2 miles is Meijer, Costco, iHop, McDonalds, Costco, lots more restaurants and just 5 miles away is the Studebaker Museum. It is a bargain. We enjoyed hours looking over the displays

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort. Loved the size of our corner unit, loved the large hot tub!
Also appreciated that coffee and tea was offered 24/7 in the lobby. There is an on-site hot breakfast available at a very reasonable cost. We requested some small kitchen appliances (electric frying pan / toaster / kettle ) which were brought to our unit within minutes. The staff is superb & very friendly. The location is relatively quiet, which allowed for restful nights on the very comfortable king sized bed. The resort is near many restaurants and shopping centers as well.

I'll be honest, I thought it would have been better. The rooms have lots of space and everything you need minus extra toilet paper if you're staying for multiple days (you have to request that and wait for it's arrival). The couch was not comfy but the bed and pillows were. I enjoyed having a balcony to step out on. The doors shut very loud. So loud that I confronted the people the people staying by me 2 nights in a row because doors were being slammed after midnight and my spouse had to work the next day. Although I didn't use the pool area I did check it out and they had nice furniture in there to lounge on. I used the hot tub and wasn't impressed. It lacks space to keep your things while in the tub, the floor was absolutely drenched (draining must not work?), and there appears to be a lot of mold forming. It's also very outdated and needs some TLC. I definitely thought this was suppose to be a classier establishment so I was surprised by the lack of upkeep.

Overall, it was a great experience. Rooms were spacious and clean. Staff was very quick to respond when we called and needed more towels or had dirty plates outside the room. Staff was very understanding with 9-10 year old hockey boys hanging out in the lobby area..... offering games and such to play!

We’ve stayed numerous times over the past 5 years and have always had an enjoyable experience. This particular visit was less than what we’ve come to expect. Firstly, upon arrival we were informed that they charge a $23 resort fee, a $200 incidentals deposit and now give you (2) complimentary breakfast buffet tickets. Anyone else in your party (room) will be charged $7.75 per day including children. We were okay with all this and couldn’t do anything about it if we weren’t since the weekend stay was paid in full and non refundable. We were staying at the hotel for a grandchild’s birthday party and use of the pool. After we settled in to our room on the third floor which is typically the most quiet, we received a text from the hotel thanking us and asking if we needed anything. This is when we discovered the the hotel is being “rebranded” to Hilton Hotels from Diamond Club. We were happy with this as we are Hilton Honors members. Went to the front desk and asked how to apply points to Hilton account since this new rebranding and was told they didn’t believe Varsity Club would qualify, but would ask the manager next week and get back to us. We’ll have to wait and see if that happens.
Lastly, we asked about the fire pit and the use, since it’s a nice amenity to enjoy. Told to let them know and they would turn on anytime but that “quiet hours” start at 11 pm. We laughed and said it wouldn’t be a problem… in bed before then. Worse part of night 2 was the 12:45 am thru 3:00 am loud banging up and down hallway, door slamming and loud conversations on our “quiet” 3rd floor. Couldn’t wait to check out in the morning. Overall, I hope guests are reminded of quiet times, buffet tables are routinely cleaned in between quests, and attention to the details that previous quests have enjoyed. I’d be willing to stay again, but not until the “rebranding “ is complete with Hilton.

Gave it a 3 star since service was great, but our 1 BR suite smelled like someone had smoked cigars in it for years with no ventilation!
The sleeper mattress had multiple stains. The mattress pad in the bedroom was also stained, looked like dried blood. The air conditioner units in both areas was good for having different temps per room, but they were dirty and pumped musty air. We had 3rd floor front room 310 with traffic noise. Front desk sent up a diffuser to help. No buffet but gave breakfast of eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and bag of bagel,
yogurt, fruit and juice can.
Nice pool and whirlpool spa but spa broke. One exercise machine broken. Website says hotel chain wears masks but most employees did not wear. Needs deep cleaning and paint and then give 5 stars.
Great location for visiting University of Notre Dame, but there are other sites to visit. Loved Studebaker Museum and Indiana Whiskey Co. Must try The Evil Czech microbrewery. Walk along St. Joseph River in South Bend!

We had a youth hockey tournament in South Bend this last weekend, and were assigned Varsity Club as our team hotel. The staff at the hotel was wonderfully accommodating. The rooms are laid out as suites with kitchenettes and small living rooms which ended up being perfect for our needs. We had some issues due to weather getting in to town on our designated date, and the hotel was so kind and easy going. The breakfast was a great start to the day, as well.
It is slightly dated in its décor, but clean, and we have found the fancier hotels to be too pretentious for youth teams and not nearly as accommodating. This was not the case with Varsity Club.
We will spread the word to our other hockey families, this is a great choice for South Bend!!

We stayed here for the Notre Dame/Ohio game. My husband had his ND class reunion that weekend also. One of his classmates recommended VCA to us. We couldn't have had a better time! We traveled with our OU friends and we stayed in a two bedroom suite. It was very comfortable and clean. It was nice to have a kitchen area to have a cocktail before dinner. The location of the hotel is perfect. Close to the university but yet close to all the restaurants right down the street. Restaurants and shopping were so convenient! The breakfast was a nice surprise. Made to order omelettes and lots of other choices. The staff was quick to help if you needed it and they also removed plates quickly which was nice. The one drawback of the hotel was the outlet situation in the bedrooms. Since it's an older property they don't have data ports and outlets near the bed to plug in all your devices. With modern technology I needed a place to charge my watch, phone and iPad! However after speaking to the nice employees at the front desk I was told that beginning in February 2024 they will be redoing the rooms and will be taking care of that!
I have already booked our stay for next year!

We live in Chicago, and we frequently travel back to Mishawaka over the weekends to visit my in-laws. The Varsity Club has become our home away form home as it has a heated in-door pool and hot tub for the long winter months, and it has a great continental breakfast that has a little something for everyone. The rooms vary greatly in size and accommodations as does the price of stay depending on when you’re visiting. When the Norte Dame football season kicks off, the rate more than doubles; however, you can find incredible dears during off weeks in the winter.

There was just one fee of about $11 per night which was disclosed when we booked it. We didn't have any other fees and the breakfast buffet was included in the price.
Unfortunately, pets are not permitted. This is strictly enforced, with the exception of working service animals. -HN
