thankyou so much to the team at gateway north for looking after me and my crew for the last two weeks, great food, friendly staff. was difficult during the level 3 lockdown but they went out of their way to accommodate us and even cook us meals off the menu to make us feel at home, much appreciated, look forward to our next stay.
Used to stay many years ago so thought would try again. Rooms very hot, no fan. Shower was basically a drip for luke warm or three lines if u could bare a hot shower in this hot weather. Mould (?) or some kind of dirt in the shower in the corners probably not a good look either. Could do with a deep clean. Not much basic cooking facilities, tv small and basic. Grateful for a bed and roof over our heads but would probably never stay here again unless absolutely required.
We stayed at the Gateway North Motor Lodge on Saturday night (3rd September). Plans had changed and instead of arriving at 8pm as planned, we turned up at 4pm. This was no problem as we picked up the key from the friendly staff at the café. The room was very tidy, clean and the kitchen had all the essentials including a wine bottle opener. The wall heater soon warmed the room. There was a wireless internet option that we did not use, and the television was small compared to most places. The staff were super helpful and rushed over to help when my wife asked for a band-aid as I cracked my head open bending down to the rubbish bin. (My fault for not looking). The room was quiet and traffic noise was very distant. The grounds cared for. The only downside apart from general wear and tear was the water. Use the water from the water filter for making cups of tea or coffee. Water pressure in the shower was pitiful. All in all a good experience and we will be back. Thank you :)…
It was getting on to six o'clock and we needed a break, this was the only place open at this time close to the road. We noted that the long distance service buses called on their way north. The food was rather prices, quality reasonable, coffee O K. The good thing was the staff were most obliging. If desperate call in at least it stays open later than the others.
The accommodation was clean but basic, had very basic TV selection, not furnished real well, a pricey stop over. This motel is outside the township not giving much choice for eating except the grossly overpriced take-away type food, even then the menu is limited. This is the drop in spot for tour buses where the tourist are obliged to pay their inflated prices or go without. If you do need to stop here I would drive a little bit further into town for eating.
No couch, 3 sat on bed for TV. Bathroom no unit for toilet bags. Limited internet access. China dirty. Hostess more interested in drinking coffee and wine rather than greeting guests. Cleanliness 'no'
Stayed on the way up and the way back. Could have a better meal menu for those staying. Would be nice to have free WiFi since there is no cellphone reception, they claim to have it but it has never worked. Otherwise good. Not all rooms have a couch, Would have been nice to make phone calls from the room since there are phones in the room but only for emergency calls. Dad would have liked to make a call.
Pitstop on the way to Bay of Islands. Total rip off. Additional $0.50 for take away hot chocolate. Really?? I paid a total of $5 for it. I read another comment made by someone on Foursquare, apparently they charge $4.50 for a 600ml of Coke *I did not stay in the room. This is just a pitstop for a quick coffee by Great Sights tour*
