This was an escape trip and it was the right place to go. Each of the accommodation options is unique and rustic in its own way. I got to stay in the Container House complete with fire for heating on a cold night. But it’s the warmth of Beth and Barry’s hospitality that sets this place apart. I was welcomed into their home for home cooked breakfasts and dinner and excellent conversation. And the one night I holed up in the container by myself I arrived home to a chilly bin containing a platter of nibbles. And off grid does not mean cold showers and hard beds: quite the opposite. I would be happy with the bathroom and bed at home. An excellent escape option.
I was welcomed by my lovely hosts and shown to the amazing Shepherds Hut, complete with home baking! The hut is beautifully situated, surrounded by native bush for privacy and relaxation. The hut is cosy and kitted out with amazing vintage linen, hot water bottles are a nice touch. Everything I needed to cook an amazing dinner each night was provided, including beautiful fresh ingredients. This can be cooked on the gas cookers or bbq provided. Breakfast was a steal and you'd be silly not to pay the small extra fee to have it delivered to the hut each morning. The highlight for me was the outdoor bath which I enjoyed under the stars, a must! beautiful tea and coffee was also provided Enjoyed hearing Kiwi at night and waking up to birdsong in the morning. Views are amazing, particularly watching the sunrise and the sun move around the valley. There's also a spa bath and pizza oven for guest use closer to the main house, that's if you can pull yourself away from the hut! I'll be back in the near future.…
The site has a beautiful view over Kaiwaka. The beds are comfortable and the owners are extremely kind to the guests, even going as far to give us feijoas and rocket. There are plenty of amenities such as a wood fire pizza oven and a spit roast. There is even a bush walk just below the site. Overall a very nice stay for the whole family.
We were there with 2 kids, aged 9 and 14. yes, we booked the 2 bedroom cottage but there was no door in between rooms. We also felt the room was really more suitable for couples. Beautiful linen, nice views in and outside, a deck with BBQ. but the practicalities not so great for families: no room to hang up any wet togs or towels, no fridge in room and shared fridge full of Woofer's food, the outdoor kitchen quite a mess and the own kitchen very basic with lack of jug, toaster etc. breakfast prep took a while and BBq only great in good weather. No inside sitting area for 4. So all in all, we could recommend this place for couple that want to escape the city and are into glamping (the shepherds cottage looked great for 2!) but not so much for families as too small for older kids and with deck dropping off and wood burner not really suitable for little kids either.…
Absolutely loved staying here. Hosts are helpful and welcoming, on site if required but far enough away to give you space and time to rest and relax. We booked the Shepherds Hut- Thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor bath and the sanctuary of the trees around giving heaps of privacy and shelter from any winds. Cant think of a better start to our year and we will definitely be back to stay again. Highly recommend for those wanting to enjoy an outdoorsy break with a bit of comfort!

The owner Beth and Barry are incredibly nice and helpful people. The property is located in a beautiful area, away from all noise and worries. With a unique charm and character the accommodations are cozy and inviting. Also the two cats Blacky and Rosi make the stay to a nice experience. It was by far one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand on our trip! My boyfriend and I stayed for two weeks and it was a great experience and lot of fun. Thank you for the great time.
