Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If I could rate this hotel a ZERO I would. I was lied to by employees, people were screaming in their room from midnight to after 1 am. The elevator didn’t work and I had to walk up and down five floors of stairs multiple times. The worst was the valet parking. I had an early flight and before checking in asked if the hotel had valet and if they would be available at 4:15 AM. The concierge told me that they were available 24 hours. Upon check in. I asked again about the valet and for a second time was assured that the valet was there 24 hours. Then, when I returned to the hotel that evening , I asked the front desk woman again about valet and asked if they could have my car ready at 4:15 AM and was assured it would be out front waiting. Not only was the car not there, the valet was not there. I was given my keys and told that I had to walk to the parking garage two blocks away in the dark by myself to a garage where I could not find the rental car and had to walk two levels to find it. It was a terrible experience. I have Parkinson’s disease and used the valet for a reason and to be told and assured three times that they would have my car ready and that the valet was there 24 hours to having to walk in 35 degree weather in the dark with my luggage was a nightmare plus I couldn’t find the car. Thanks for the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel it’s NOT 4 stars and I would never recommend the Graduate hotel to anyone nor ever stay at one anywhere.

Hotel's Favourite
This was my second stay at this location. The staff is remarkable and very welcomed after a long drive into Chicago. They took very good care of me even though the hotel was bustling with lots of différents venues. I hope next time I can stay longer.

My daughter and I came to visit the Northwestern University and it was very nice to have the hotel in that area. The room was very nice and clean and the staff service made us very welcome. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends. Thank you!!

My wife and I are from Cincinnati and we came for a Downton Abbey exhibit and stayed here because the hotel online looked like it fit the theme. It did. Very nice boutique hotel with a great staff. Our room was small but comfortable and very nicely done. Nice updated shower and bathroom and comfortable bed. The only downside was the elevator was out of service and we were right next to the stairs. It’s amazing how sound can travel. But it wasn’t a problem bc it’s not a super busy hotel with kids running around. Our first night we had dinner at the small cozy lounge bar. We were waiting for the restaurant to open, but decided to have dinner at the bar. They have a very interesting drink menu and we tried almost every drink over the weekend. The bartender (Faye) was awesome and, man! Can she make a drink! Plus she is warm, hospitable and interesting. One night, we invited a friend to join us. We were going to go for pizza, but he met us at the bar, had one drink, and ended up staying there the rest of the night AND the next night! Yeah, Faye and her drinks are that good! We ate at the bar (bc we were having such a great time) and we highly recommend the steak and trout. Everyone we came across that works there were very friendly and helpful. I can see coming back for just a weekend getaway (and Faye!).

In town visiting the college with my daughter. Dusty, needs some to keep. Most of the staff was nice. A few seemed annoyed that the hotel was busy for parents weekend. Management also seemed disinterested. We have stayed at multiple Graduate hotels and this one was my least favorite.

The Graduate is not a slick, shiny place like the Hyatt but it's got 20th century charm, a good price and it's blocks away from the Lake. It's also right next to the Mather, so if you have friends staying there, this is the perfect spot. It's also got a bar that Hemingway would be happy to settle into for the evening. And a charming restaurant to boot.

The heat did not work properly in my room at a time outside temperatures fell to minus 10 and the wind was howling. The windows in the old building let in lots of air, which means there's an even greater need for an adequate heating system. There is no separate heat in the bathroom.

Both charge me the stay. It seems that both platforms are not integrated. Concierge was not protested to deal with the problem. I am calling booking.com to solve the problem. They are blaming each other. I’m in the middle with no solution.
