The Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago Loop garners praise for its clean and cozy rooms, though some visitors find them on the smaller side with a hint of datedness. The staff's exceptional service frequently earns accolades, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere accentuated by the hotel's classic Art Deco elegance.
While opinions on value are mixed, due to extra fees and varied perceptions of room quality, the central location and convenient amenities—like complimentary coffee and water—often tip the scales in favor of a positive experience.

My husband and I travel regularly to Chicago because we have season tickets for evening performances at Lyric Opera each year. We have tried many area hotels over the years, many of which we like. However, the best- located hotel in our opinion is the Sonesta Allegro Hotel. It is just under four blocks between the Civic Opera House and the Allegro entrance, and the walking route is safe and well-maintained. Often other opera fans are walking the same route, which makes it even more safe and even convivial! We never need a cab when we stay at the Allegro regardless of the time of day of the performance. This would be so for many attending plays at Chicago’s main theaters also— the distances are short, safe, and well-maintained between the theaters and the Allegro. Since the end of the pandemic, we have appreciated the cleanliness and good maintenance of this lovely historic building and the kindness and efficiency of the front desk staff. They make us feel welcome and they are without exception helpful in response to special requests or with information we may need. Hetal and her colleagues at the front desk always make sure our room is ready when we arrive even though we are a bit early into town, due to public transportation schedules.
Finally we wanted to make sure that readers know the 312 Restaurant (Italian), in the same building as Allegro, is once again open after a long closure during and after the pandemic. It is under separate management from the Allegro, but there is a discount available from Allegro for hotel guests using 312. Dinner is available early enough for theater or opera patrons who are hotel guests to eat prior to evening performances. One can enter Restaurant 312 from the Allegro without going outdoors. Allegro’ s front desk can explain the discount; current menus are available at the front desk of Allegro.
For all these reasons, we recommend Sonesta Hotel Allegro highly and without reservation.

This will become my go-to hotel for work trips to Chicago. It is in a great location in the Loop, has very welcoming staff, and nice little rooms. Yes the rooms are a little small but they have everything you need.. The hotel has a great fitness center, a beautiful lobby, and a morning coffee bar. I highly recommend!

This 1920s establishment benefits from a curious entrance since the large lobby is located upstairs. Quite dark overall, it is nonetheless cozy. The welcome was up to par but they tried to "hand over" us a room that was certainly quite spacious but on the first levels, with the most curious barred windows and especially facing a wall! Back at reception the person who took care of us offered us 2 other rooms much better located at the same price and above all accompanied us to visit them, which is professional. This problem being resolved we went to the quite nice bar (good shaker cocktails) and given the late hour (restaurants closed) they have a menu of rather good cold dishes available which helped us out a lot. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant 312 but we were able to have our breakfasts there, not included in the room price. The service is impeccable and the offerings classic but very well prepared... However, count between 70 and 80 dollars for 2 which is not cheap. In terms of location, the hotel provides quick access in 15 minutes, for example to Macys, the Millennium Park, the superb Art Institute and the start of Route 66.... in fact just a small, slightly ridiculous sign for a legendary road which is almost 4000 km long! Well-known theaters are also nearby. I therefore recommend this hotel but I recommend asking for rooms higher up. Finally, you should know that there are open-air metro trains just below which are a little noisy during the day but the advantage is that there is a station right next to it.

We wrapped up a week in Michigan and the UP with a three night stay at the Allegro Royal Sonesta in Chicago. The Staff service was On Point from the minute we arrived at the curb Friday afternoon until the minute we pulled away Monday morning. That includes the Doormen, Bellmen, Front Desk, Housecleaning, and Bartender (we did not have the opportunity to dine at the restaurant). The lobby, halls, and rooms all have a consistent updated 1920s-30s Art Deco feel to to them. Our room was clean and nicely appointed. Bedding was very comfortable. Bath was cleverly modernized. Location in the NW quadrant of The Loop makes it easy to get around the city. Next time I plan to visit Chicago, I will be looking to stay here. Special thanks to the Head Doorman who helped me navigate into city traffic, and to Eric at the Front Desk.

A huge THANK YOU to Monica at the front desk. She was professional, positive, helpful and pleasant. I don't recall the names of other fantastic front desk staff, nor do I recall the name of one front desk staff who was negative and unhelpful.
There are many things to like about the hotel. Excellent location, comfortable bed, lobby decor and bar. The room was on the small side, but that's to be expected in an older, large city hotel. One night the neighbors were very noisy until 1 am. The walls are thin. But we stayed for 4 nights and all other nights were quiet. For these reasons I would consider returning
One huge negative that will definitely keep me from recommending until the policy is changed is the $28/night mandatory fee. The hotel is clear about the fee. It covers things that should be included such as 2 bottles of water PER STAY, not night, wifi, fitness center, coffee and tea in lobby. Since it's a mandatory fee, why not add it to the room cost? I can't opt out of I don't drink the coffee, tea, water, use my own data or skip the fitness center. Since it's a per day fee, why can't I get the bottled water per day? Housekeeping is only one per 3-nights, unless you request it. These Covid rules are no longer necessary and only adding to the hotels profits and not the guests' needs and must stop. Just charge me one price, give me housekeeping and charge me extra for any amenities I do choose to use. The price and fee model of this hotel is a reason I won't return

The Allegro Royale Sonesta did not disappoint. We took a quick overnight trip to Chicago 10/04 and were pleasantly surprised with our stay. The room was small, we had 2 double beds, but I think that’s expected for big downtown city hotels. The beds were comfy and rooms were very quiet. We were a few doors from the elevator and didn’t hear a sound all night. Everything was clean and well serviced. Front desk staff was excellent! I had to ask for the Curtain call amenities but they accommodated me immediately. There are extra fees to be aware of. $32 resort fee (which entitles you to 2 bottles of water, coffee/tea each morning, $10 bar or restaurant credit, curtain call amenities- sleep mask, bath salts and chocolates), $70 parking. But you can download a parking app and find a parking garage nearby for much less.

Hefal and Awein at the reception provided outstanding service, making us feel welcome and well cared for. The room was beautifully designed, featuring tasteful artwork and cleanliness was top-notch. The hotel's prime location, right in the heart of a bustling street, made it convenient for exploring nearby attractions. Overall, a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to both friends and colleagues.

Please, never go to this hotel. First and most importantly, it stinks. It literally has such a bad smell from the moment you enter the lower level, to the hallways on all floors of the hotel. The carpet looks extremely old and smells like mold and has a sewer smell to it. We booked this hotel through Expedia and paid for a Deluxe type of room. The room and the bathroom were so extremely small that my husband asked to see an upgraded room. When we viewed it, it was a bigger space, but with the same bathroom size. And guess what? It also smelled like mold. That room was $60 more, but they said they would fit us in for the initial price if we left a good review online.
My husband asked if the water bottles were complimentary and they said yes. But when we checked out, they wanted to charge us $60 for a "DESTINATION FEE", which included the 2 complimentary water bottles, a bottle of wine, gym, printer, and amenities. Very misleading! They decided to waive that fee as new families were checking In next to us at the front desk. In fact, we knew about this b/c my husband started checking the reviews online before our check-out day with complaints about the same fee.
We deeply regret staying at the hotel, we later realized we could've paid the same money for a better hotel in the area.
And for some reason, we were itchy all night long while sleeping. Is it even safe to stay at a hotel that stays like toxic mold?
I would give ZERO stars to this place, but unfortunately, that's not an option.
For the Record, the female receptionist was very polite and did her very best to accommodate our stay. We give her and her only 5 stars.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. I save only the staff. Hetal Jain was excellent. She was very friendly and kind. She went extra mile to help answering my questions/needs and she also showed me some rooms to help me pick a room that was not too noise as I'm a very light sleeper and some rooms are facing to the the loop railway.
The hotel is very old, rooms didn't have a nice smell. They don't provide housekeeping - only after 3 nights. The shower gel in my bathroom was almost empty when I checked in and they didn't fill out even if requested. They don't provide basic stuff like shower caps, kettle or coffee/tea in the room.
They also have hidden fees $28 per day called destination fees that includes wifi and 2 bottles of water in the room. Things that in most of hotels are complimentary.

I arrived very tired from a long flight and needed to be checked in the early morning. I was helped with my luggage to get to the lobby and was welcomed by Anthony who was able to allow an early check in for a fee. (it was worth it) I was provided with helpful information, the coffee bar, the night time Shower Salts and Chocolates (fantastic).
The staff was very helpful and the Hotel gives off a the Vintage Hotel vibe (I am sorry I forgot your name, put I was the one wearing the vintage dresses with Veils) . The Attached restaurant make a great breakfast. Richardo has a wonderful staff who was always filling up my water and coffee.
Very comfortable bed and the windows are sound proof, I could not hear any street noise even when the theater next door having a show. I look forward to staying again here. Just 3 blocks away from the Chicago river.
