Travelodge by Wyndham Downtown Chicago is widely recognized for its cleanliness, with guests appreciating spotless rooms and linens, despite the furniture showing signs of age. The staff's helpful and prompt service often receives accolades, although there are occasional reports of less satisfactory interactions. While the rooms are considered spacious and clean, some guests suggest they could benefit from modernization. Its central location is celebrated for convenience to attractions, yet a few guests mention street noise as a downside. The hotel's value proposition garners mixed reviews, with some finding it budget-friendly and others deeming it pricey for the offered quality. The overall atmosphere is deemed warm and inviting, a factor that keeps guests returning, though some find the amenities could use an update.

The hotel was in a good location, right by Grant Park and by a lot of the colleges, just a couple blocks over from the loop and State St. The hotel, however, is very old and dated. At one point, I felt like I was in the hotel from The Shining. I expect better from my Wyndham locations. I thought at least the decor would have been updated to Wyndham standards, but everything was old and dated and it had an odor when I got home. The windows were cracked and just had clear tape on them. They should replace the glass, especially since it was a second floor room and it gets very loud from street noise, trucks and the train. I am not sure I would stay here again. I would rather spend money for a good hotel experience than use my Wyndham points or rewards points for this location.

It started when I arrived and was told I had goofed and reservation was for Sept. and not April but they had a room with king bed as I had requested. The clerk was more than friendly and helpful and got me a bargain rate. Boring room, only 3 pillows in king bed, could not control heat, only one ice machine in all the hotel but never met anyone there. It is an old hotel near "L" tracks and noisy all night however it is walking distance to Shedd, Field, Art Institute, and Millennium Park. Luna Cafe' was great for breakfast and we have never had better Thai food than the attached restaurant.
It was two blocks from bus to Shedd or Field which costs $2.50, much less than parking.

I was just looking for a cheap room downtown before catching a plane from O'Hare the next day. The room was very large and had a microwave, small refrigerator, sink, lockbox, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was spacious with a shower/tub. There was a writing desk and plenty of storage for clothes. The furniture and carpet were dated but well maintained. WI-FI was strong and there were many cable channels on the TV. It was a block from Grant Park and 3-4 blocks from the blue or red CTA lines. For the price I paid through Hotwire it was an excellent value. I would definitely stay there again.

The pictures online do not reflect how the rooms actually are. I recommend this place only for the location because it is close to public transit and it’s downtown.

I originally booked for 2 nights but ended up needing to stay an extra night, so in total I stayed here for 3 nights… when I checked in I asked if I could add an extra night and the front desk employee said it was no problem and that they would give me the night for $99. That was how much I paid originally anyways. After checking in, everything was good until that extra night. They checked me out of my room without consulting with me and all my things were locked in the hotel room. When I went back down to the front desk, they said they never put me in for an extra night. Yet again, they promised me $99 for that extra night. I had to make a separate reservation for that room again to get my things back. After leaving the place, I realized that they charged me $150 instead of $99 for that night even after being promised it over 3 times… not to mention, it’s been over a week and I haven’t gotten my deposit back from them. The employees told me I’d get the deposit back after 2 days.

I don’t recommend this place unless you’re only in the city for a couple of days. The employee that said I would get my night for $99 is saying that he doesn’t recall telling me he’d give me the night for $99. Which I have no idea why I would lie about it. After calling in about it, they transferred me to their general managers voicemail. So I still haven’t gotten my money back and the problem isn’t resolved.

The staff at the location was very helpful and attentive to the needs of me and my family. The manager assisted me with a situation and made sure me and my family were safe. The housekeeping staff was available at any time needed. Security staff was just as affective. I will be recommending the hotel to all who visit the city from now on.

Had to ask 3 times the first night to turn the heat on. It was 59 degrees in the room. They didn't turn on the heat the 2nd night. Found a bug in one bed. Only 2 sets of towels for 4 of us. When you flush the toilet or if other rooms did something, water would discharge from the tub faucet. Noise, bring a sound machine or download an App! Because of the location, you'll hear the subway trains running. I understand its Chicago, parking across the street is $46 a night. Diagnol from the hotel is another spot that is only $30. You do not get a discount for the parking or have your ticket verified. I gave it 2 stars and that's only because the location is great.

If only I could rate no stars! Check in was smooth and staff was nice. I had booked two rooms for $259-$279 each. I was given room 403 and a relative was given 415. Pictures of this hotel and its rooms are deceiving! This hotel is so outdated and horrible. The rooms given to me were disgusting and smelled musty and sewer-like. I was originally in room 403 and it was not like the picture at all, especially the bathroom. This room had a strong sewer smell and the carpet had large spots of stain. Went to the front desk and was given room 418. That room had a musty smell and the AC was not working. Since there were no other rooms, I asked for a refund and went somewhere else. Since the manager was not working that night, I had to call back the next morning to get a refund. Manager was nice. I explained exactly like how I stated above and the room numbers. She then asked “didn’t I already refund you yesterday?” (Wow, that means someone else had the exact experience!) . Told her that was not me and she refunded the charge. Thought this was the end but nope.
My relative called me and told me that housekeeping came into their room at 9am while they were sleeping. Check out time is 11am. Per housekeeping, their room was marked as empty. I then received a call back from the manager asking me if I had checked out. Reminded her that yes I did, last night, and went somewhere else. She then asked me what rooms I was in and I reminded her again. She sounded like she was confuse and since I knew the situation with housekeeping, I re-explain the whole situation. She then made the comment of “oh, so you’re not lying”. I can only assume they were thinking I lied about checking out and housekeeping busted “me” in the room. I told her ma’am your staff must of checked out the wrong room!
I would not recommend this hotel until they do major updating for the price they’re charging! Parking is super expensive as well.

Dear connieyang83, Thank you so much for staying with the Travelodoge Downtown Chicago. We appreciate your feedback and will use this information as a training tool so we can strive to do better for all guests. We do hope you give us another change in the future. The only thing I'd like to point out is we don't have any control of parking rates in downtown Chicago. They do range from $56-$82 per night depending upon which lot is used. Thank you again Ryan Burkart

My apartment in Hyde Park will be ready in early May, in the meantime I have been staying at various hotels in Chicago of various star ratings, 5 star Peninsula, Chicago collection hotel, Hotel Julian, etc.

Bottom line: At this "2 star" Travelodge by Wyndham at 65 E. Harrison in Chicago, Sheryl, the front desk employee, gave me a "5 Star" customer service experience at 2 star prices! She checked me in quickly, explained all relevant hotel policies and since I booked my trip through Priceline, she explained to me the benefits of the Wyndham Rewards Program and booking through the hotel directly.

The room was clean, large and comfortable. I was able to get 8 solid hours of sleep which prepared me to perform at a top level during the next day which was filled with meetings and other work related activities...

I will definitely recommend this location to anyone looking for good value and top quality at affordable prices.

Our room greeted us with a giant stain in the carpet when we opened the door. TV did not work but maintenance came to fiddle with it “don’t wiggle this cable”. Our key card stopped working had to be reprogrammed. The weather turned cold but the radiator in our room didn’t work. The blankets were very thin so I tried to use extra pillows to keep warm but did not sleep well due to the cold (no extra blanket in room). In the morning I asked about the lack of heat in our room and was told that the heat had not been turned on in any rooms because “it would have been too hot”. When I called ahead of time to ask about parking they told me a lot across the street was $46 per day. When I asked for cheaper alternatives they said there weren’t any (we found cheaper Millenium garages nearby).

Dear catherinecN9391JG, Thank you so much for choosing the Travelodge Downtown Chicago. We do apologize for the many issues that you experienced during your stay. We have already passed on the information to each department to correct immediately. As far as parking, there are over 100 places to park in downtown Chicago with each one with a different owner, so it's impossible for us to know all rates by heart and always changing for events. We encourage guests to look into parking if they want to park more than a block away from the hotel. Millennium garages is also 5 blocks away in an underground facility with low lighting. We hope to see you again and hope to see you soon,
