Detailed Reviews
The building is beautiful with its ornate mouldings and woodwork, lots of art throughout the building, and they welcomed us to explore. We wandered through the floors and enjoyed their art collection, most are American artists from the early 20th century. There are contemporary artworks as well. The works were stunning and we were glad to see these amazing treasures in the hotel. We were here for the holidays and it was decorated very nice. The food is good and servers are attentive.
Tip - there is a parking structure right next door. Use Spothero to get a good parking discount if you want to park yourself.
They do offer valet parking as well.

You’ll have a superior experience at this traditional hotel/club. The staff is top notch and the rooms are warmly adorned. The Grand Ballroom is magnificent and with over 900 pieces of art throughout the club, it is a majestic place. Several bars and restaurants available on site.

I am never sure what to expect when staying at a hotel within a club. The Union League Club more than met my expectations. The common areas are impressive. Had multiple meals where both food and service were a positive experience. The gym had lots of equipment and very few other people in the space. The location is perfect for walking to all of the attractions in downtown Chicago. The price point is a good value realtive to other hotels in downtown Chicago.

An older facility that has had some updating. The room and beds were very comfortable; however, the bathroom was designed for munchkins. Two people cannot get ready at the same time due to the design of the sink/vanity, placement of the toilet and tub. Otherwise, I would have rated a 4

Can’t really complain about anything . The staff are excellent and helped with all of our queries. The rooms are a bit dated but you’re staying in what would be described in the uk as a gentleman’s club. Quite centrally located with coffee shops , restaurants and shopping nearby . We didn’t try and park ourselves we used the valet tbh it wasn’t that much more and it’s just so convenient when leaving .

Stayed here one night for a small reunion party because we wanted to enjoy the city next day. This hotel was a pleasure with its patina of historic elegance. It's an old building and our room was small, but has been updated nicely. Bedding was comfy (the important thing). Enjoyed the enormous art collection mounted throughout impressive ballrooms and foyers. Courteous staff at all turns. Located steps from so many downtown landmarks, including Millennium Park. If this is the type of place you enjoy, it's a wonderful option at a sane price.

We were only in town for one evening, to attend a wedding. The Union League was amazing. Great service, competitive price, fabulous room. Spectacular public spaces. The only downside is that the bar closes a bit early. I only wish we had stayed longer. Maybe next time...

The Union League Club of Chicago prides itself on tradition. I spent 5 days here while on business. This facility must have been grand in its day. Alas, no longer. It's tired and dowdy and does not appear as elegant in true life as it does on the website.
It is clean and reasonably priced ( $169 daily ) and is well located in Downtown Chicago close to The Mercantile Exchange and a short walk from the Art Institute and Millenium Park. Staff are polite but services are limited.
Jeans are not allowed Monday to Friday. While this is probably to maintain a sense of distinction and tradition, I suggest a major makeover of this hotel would achieve the same but with more credability.
I would not choose this hotel on my next visit but it may be suitable if your budget is restricted.

I've stayed at better discount motels that are in better shape, have a better atmosphere, and are more updated.
I stayed here as a result of a conference that I was attending at the Union League Club. I figured for the convenience it was going to be worth it. Boy was I wrong. This building does have a lot of history and it shows. The conference areas are in great shape, but it seems as if the hotel rooms are an afterthought, if a thought at all. Too bad, since with a facelift, this could be a very special place.
The interior of my room was worn. The bed, including blankets, sheets, and pillows looked old. I felt dirty sleeping at this facility. My closet door wouldn't shut. The bathroom was small with little to no counter space. The toilet was leaking and the wallpaper was peeling. The ceiling fan tried to work, but just could never get going. The handle was loose on the exterior door to my room and looked to be in danger of falling off the door. My curtains did not close all of the way unless I held them in place with something heavy (a Chicago phone book did the job). One of the windows looked directly into an office less than 10' away. The walls are paper thin with no sound insulation, so your neighbor's business is your business.
The location of this facility is the only thing that it has going for it. Right in the heart of downtown Chicago. You are walking distance from everything including a ride up to the top of the Sear's tower. I will definitely return to Chicago for a longer visit in the future, but the Union League Club will not be retaining my business. Please do yourself a favor and do not stay here since they force a pretentious atmosphere on you, but don't back it up with clean and modern living arrangements.

Tired and worn. We stayed @ the Union League Club for the weekend in April 2006. Not impressed in the least. The bed was horrendous--we did not get ANY sleep all weekend. The matress was marshmellow soft. The pillows were nasty. Carpet and furnishing were worn. Tiny bathroom. LOUD heating system that will keep you up in the middle of the night. Would never join and would never stay there again. Did not like anything about it.

Anyone alive is welcome.
Hi Laurel,
Long gone are the days of separate entrances and elevators. We've also updated our dress code quite a bit. However, we do still remain a private club. If you would let me know when you will be visiting, I can work out a time to show you around.
Thank you,
Jared Wike
