I’ve stayed here around 15 times in last 2 years. I travel to Chicago a lot for work and it’s the only hotel I will try. The staff is amazing. Luigi at registration desk is so sweet, helpful and connected. He provides the best information and always accommodates my needs.

The food is so good and I love getting room service for breakfast. The Gwen burger is so yummy. The rooms are beautifully designed and the mattresses feel like a magic spell potion is on them. I sleep so well. Best location for shopping and restaurants. Easy to stroll around for exploring and getting coffee or lunch.

It was our family’s first time staying here and we were really impressed with the decor and cleanliness. Andrew checked us in and was very courteous and professional. Andrew acknowledged our Ambassador status and upgraded us to a suite on the 17th which provided some beautiful views of the Magnificent Mile. The room is stunning and very large for a place in Chicago as rooms usually run small. This hotel really cares about all the details and have taken Covid 19 precautions by sanitizing all touch points in the room.

Location is great, two blocks from Chicago River and you literally have tons of restaurant options within a three block perimeter. Trust me, you cannot go wrong.

Spent 4 nights at the Gwen and was impressed by the level of service provided by staff. Rooms were not serviced due to Covid but our wastebaskets were emptied regularly by leaving them outside the door and towels, soap, sheets or any other necessities were re-supplied after a call to guest services.

Hotel’s location is definitely one of its best selling points as it is centrally located in downtown area, close to tons of restaurants, shops and other activities to keep the average tourist busy. The Riverwalk is a few mins walk from the hotel and is a great way to kill some time on a sunny day. We also ended up taking the 90 min Architecture Cruise which was interesting but smaller kiddos might get bored. If you have small kids the FREE Lincoln Zoo is also a great choice.

We ate alot of good food in the Windy City but would highly recommend Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse and Manny’ Deli if you only have 24 hours. This is definitely a city that warrants a return visit based on good eats alone.

Would definitely stay at the Gwen in future visits to Chi-Town. Happy Travels.

Our wedding at The Gwen exceeded all of our expectations!!

My husband and I wanted to have our wedding somewhere in the city with an amazing view and an intimate feel. We found The Gwen and from what we saw online the space looked perfect. We went to see The Gwen Lux Suite and we immediately fell in love!! The suite is on the sixteenth floor and has a beautifully designed indoor space with two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, and a dining area. It also has two stunning terraces that look down Michigan avenue and at night the buildings light up the sky around you. We secured the venue in February of 2020. With all of the changes that have happened since, resulting from COVID19, the staff at The Gwen have went above and beyond to make us feel safe. They implemented many safety meaures, such as; placing sanitizer throughout the hotel, requiring the guests to wear masks in all common ares, and allowing two people max on the elevator at a time.

We had our ceremony and reception on the larger of the two terraces and our cocktail hour was held inside the suite and on the smaller terrace. The staff transformed the space from the ceremony to the reception in less than an hour! My guests were so impressed with how quickly it was done and how amazing it looked! The chef is also extremely talented and the food was amazing! After our initial tasting my husband and I were raving about the food to our friends! They were not disappointed! We have received so many compliments on the food and the professionalism of the staff. The space was also able to accommodate our 45 guests, vendors, and the hotel staff comfortably.

But don't let me stop there!

As a Bride planning a wedding can get very stressful and overwhelming. The reason I am rating my experience an A++ is because of the Director of Catering, Vasso Power! She is amazing! She made everything run so smooth, from the first day of planning until the night of the wedding. She cares about you and your perfect wedding day. She helped me find vendors, she coordinated all of the details on the day of the wedding, she even helped bustle my dress and fix my hair! I had an issue with the décor vendor that I hired two weeks before my wedding that could of resulting in a major catastrophe. I spoke to Vasso and explained what was going on, she was able to recommend and connect me with an amazingly talented florist in hours! The decor and floral was better than I could have imagined and it was all thanks to Vasso's expertise and connections in the wedding industry.

The wedding day/night was so enjoyable and stress-free because of Vasso and the banquet manager, Omero. Together they made sure the day was perfect!

I highly recommend booking your wedding at The Gwen! Not only do you get the most beautiful venue but you get to meet and work with Vasso, Omero, and the rest of the team!!

The only negative remark I have is that the day passed by too quickly! :)

We had a very nice room at the Gwen, it looked recently remodeled. The room was sealed when we entered for COVID precautions and the staff followed all COVID precautions. The room had a nice sized bath with separate shower, tub and toilet area and a large single sink. The bed was comfortable and the room had two chairs, a desk chair and club chair. The blackout curtains were good. I missed not having a coffee pot in the room but free coffee was available in the morning. There were lots of outlets for devices. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent, well prepared and fresh, but the breakfast area could use more staff. There was a lovely outdoor patio off of the lobby. You can enter the hotel from Michigan Avenue through the shopping center until 7pm, otherwise you must use the Rush Street entrance. The valet parking is very pricey at $75 per day but if you are just looking to park your car the $25 per day self parking (no in and out privileges) option across the street on Rush is a very good option. We would stay here again.

First off, I used to live in Chicago and now live in Los Angeles so when I come back to Chicago I want to hit all my favorite places and the location of the Gwen provides for just that. It’s in the heart of the best City on the planet.
Secondly, we were treated with such professionalism by the Manager Brian Adams. I was meeting the rest of my friends who were set to arrive later and Brian made sure I could have an early check in and even managed making sure all my other friends could get their room keys. We had early flights out and he sent up a coffee maker to our room because we missed their awesome buffet breakfast. Overall when I visit Chicago this hotel will be my one of choice. It’s so convenient, high end (but competitive pricing), great service by management, and attached to the Nordstrom building is key.

My husband and I planned our intimate wedding for June 2020 over a year ahead of time. Due to Covid we worked with the Gwen to postpone until August 2020. The city of Chicago began reopening mid June and the entire Gwen staff exceeded our expectations throughout the short planning process. Vasso Power was our main contact and stating that she is a superwoman is an understatement! She is the Director of Catering but that title does not due justice. Her experience of weddings helped me plan for things I wasn't even aware of and her constant communication eased the stress of wedding planning because I knew she had things handled.

Flash forward to the day of the wedding, Vasso and the rest of the Gwen staff worked to make the entire day seamless. Weather was a slight issue so communication and plans were outlined early in the day so all options were available and prepared for. Our Captain, Boris, and all servers worked swiftly and efficiently you almost barely knew they were there but they were working tirelessly. My husband and I fell in love with the food when we had our tasting with Vasso and the chef. After the event all of our guests raved about hor d'oeurvres, dinner and sweet table. Definitely A+ for food, drinks and service.

The Gwen did a great job maintaining Covid protocols as well. Staff wore masks and gloves and the building had sanitizer available throughout.

The Gwen gave me the wedding of my dreams and it could not have been possible without their amazing staff and Vasso Power. No matter what your event, I could not recommend The Gwen enough!

We loved our stay at The Gwen! Despite the pandemic restrictions (such as the restaurant being closed, no housekeeping during our stay, wearing masks in public areas) we felt welcome and comfortable. Our room was cleaned and sealed before our arrival and all Covid safety protocols were followed.
The location of this hotel is so convenient to holiday shopping and restaurants, and we loved the rooftop bar with fire pits and provided blankets to keep us warm. The staff, including reception, doormen, bartenders and bar wait staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. We parked in a parking ramp across the street and were given discount coupons for parking.
We’ve stayed in several downtown hotels over the years and The Gwen is our favorite.

Pros:

LOCATION: You are in the heart of everything. Quick walks to great restaurants, shopping, the River for architecture tours etc and easy driving access to Lake Shore Drive via Illinois.

Clean: the bathroom was spotless and I’m SUPER picky. I still Clorox wiped everything but it wasn’t dusty. There were some fingerprint smudges on the back of the desk chair but everything else for the most part (see laundry in cons) was very clean.

Quick elevators: This may seem odd to mention but many Chicago hotels need to be accessed from a ground floor elevator. Many times these are extremely slow with long lines. The Gwen elevators both from ground floor up and from lobby to your room were extremely quick. If you happen to be on the 11th floor (maybe others too?) you can access the elevators straight to Rush street and if there is a meeting you can go straight up to that floor and bypass the elevator switch.

Free coffee: 6am-11am!! This is important to us! The coffee was well brewed and they had everything you needed to make your perfect cup. Only problem is that it seemed they weren’t monitoring this too closely as one morning the coffee was out (they made an easy quick switch to fresh pot) and another there was no more creamer. They were attentive and quickly replaced it though.

Lobby restaurant breakfast: It was delicious and surprisingly the cheapest meal we had the whole trip! Our girls’ kids breakfast portions were huge and we all left with happy, full bellies. Servers were kind and attentive.

Quick service: We needed extra linens/towels and used the “chat with us” option through the Bonvoy app. They responded promptly and sent us what we needed within 5–10 minutes.

Parking: There is a garage right across the street and you can get validation tickets from the front desk so overnight is $30. That’s extremely reasonable! Just make sure you pay at the kiosks in the garage lobby before exiting.

CONS:
Laundry: We had a few pillowcases with stains and had to remove a few towels for similar reasons. One washcloth had a few of someone’s fake lashes still attached! Yikes. Whoever is doing the laundry should toss these or perhaps housekeeping especially with linens should try to keep a closer eye out before using those to make beds.

Towels: These were NOT what I’d expect from a luxury hotel. All the towels seemed to be different and majority were not plush and soft. After the first shower I was drying my daughter and she complained the towel was scratching her. 😕

No stay is ever perfect, but overall this was a nice stay. The beds were comfortable and this was definitely the quietest Chicago hotel I’ve ever stayed. There was very minimum city road noise and probably for the first time I did not awake once in the middle of the night from the sound of sirens! I’d definitely consider staying again next time.

Checked into the Hotel at around 1:00 pm (Check-in is at 3:00 pm) and they had a king room ready on the 15th floor. The room was quite large for a big city. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was perfect with a separate tub and shower as well as the toilet in yet another room. The color palate is done in soft grays, straw yellow, black & off white with accents of brushed gold. It is very soothing to enter forgetting all the chaos outside. Cocktails on the terrace was a nice treat even in November as fire pits and heaters are everywhere. Breakfast was very good quality, hot and quite filling. No coffee makers in the room but you can request a Keurig to be sent up which they did as well as restocked it each day. The Hotel is located between North Rush and Michigan Avenue. The only down side is there is no entrance on the Michigan Avenue side. You can go through the Mall but when returning to the Hotel late at night the mall is closed preventing you from entering on that side. This is minor. After eating in some great restaurants I needed to walk around the block. It was my first time visiting Chicago and this Hotel was the perfect choice for me.
