To be fair I want to disclose I am a RC Titanium Elite member so I have a lot of status with the brand.

My family and I checked in on May 28, 2022 for 3 nights for the Memorial Day Holiday. We were actually booked into the Marriott on the Miracle Mile however we had a glitch with our reservation (I wont bore you with those details) and literally booked this property all on points 30 minutes before we arrived. When we arrived were were greeted by the bellman at the valet stand and he took our luggage and escorted us to the lobby on the 12th floor.

At check in we were greeted by Danny & Jeremy and asked for a room upgrade however there were non available. So we checked into a standard king room and the plan was my daughter would sleep on the non sleeper sofa and my son would get a roll away bed. However after freshening up we went out on the town for dinner and when were leaving the hotel I stopped by the front desk and asked Jeremy if there is anything he can do for us with a room upgrade it would be so greatly appreciated. Jeremy wrote down my number and said should any rooms free up he would call me. The hotel was at 95% capacity so this was a tough request.

To my surprise Jeremy called me while we were at dinner and he said he had 2 rooms for us to choose from and both were suites. We chose room 1610 and never looked back. I cant tell you how much this meant to us and made our stay completely enjoyable and more comfortable. Big shout out to JEREMY! Our suite was huge with a king bedroom and a pull out sofa and my son had a roll away bed over looking Navy Pier. Jeremy went out of his way to help us! :)

During our stay we used the in room dining feature several times and all special services like extra towels and soaps were delivered very promptly. The guest rooms, lobby and spa have had a make over and they really did a great job since we last stayed here several years ago. The spa upgrades was really nice and I will do a separate review on the spa by itself. This will be our number one go to hotel in Chicago and we will return for sure.

As a side note the hotel location is 1/2 block from the Michigan Mile and there is a kids park across the street from the hotel, a Walgreens on the corner, and plenty of good walking around the hotel should you bring your dog. For breakfast Wildberry Pancakes is located on the ground floor of the hotel and you have direct access from the hotel to the shopping mall from with in the hotel.

I was surprised to see some of the negative reviews. I have been staying at this Ritz location for over 20 years. Maybe I am just lucky but I have never had a bad experience. If the rates are right I always pick to stay at this Ritz as opposed to other Marriott hotels. Most of the rooms and suites have been remodeled and are very nice. Things were crazy during COVID because the hotel was shut down from fall/winter 2020 until spring of 2021. When they reopened there were some things to be worked out. I just stayed there in October and everything was open in the hotel and we had a wonderful stay. Location is great and they did add a security measure requiring room keycard to access the elevators going up to the rooms. As long as they continue with the same service this will still be my first choice in Chicago.

what a property! From exiting my cab to entering the cab after checkout, the R-C came through. There is internal construction/remodeling underway, and circumstances forced the desk to give me a room "in the zone" in order to comply with other wishes regarding room location. They fairly compensated via F&B discount. The room was spectacular, service impeccable. food good, bar staff beyond top shelf.

I sure hope the conference that I attended returns there next year.

I made a reservation well in advance and had planned on celebrating a significant life event during these unprecedented times. My reservation was cancelled with no notice a week before arriving and the only reason I was given is the the hotel is shutting down operations for July due to the pandemic. However, all the travel dates are still available on the website so I suspect my cancellation might have been due to the lower rate I locked in months ago. I brought this to the attention of the property hoping they would do the right thing and help me find alternate accommodations or compensate the difference in the now much higher prices.

They declined to be of any assistance and offered no further information. Also, the entire month is still open for booking stays at the property on their website, at a significantly higher rate. Something is not right.

I am thoroughly disappointed in the way I have been treated and will seek better hospitality when in Chicago. I suggest you stay elsewhere.

This property was lovely. The rooms were comfortable and conveniently arranged with all the expected amenities. The staff we encountered were uniformly professional, friendly and excellent. However, on our first full day a racket began in the morning and did not stop, at least while I was in the room, until after 4. It sounded like a jackhammer immediately overhead, and it was literally rattling the walls. I usually just ignore things like this - not worth making a big deal over. But this was so incredibly loud and jarring I couldn’t stay in the room - I had intended to do some work while my spouse was in a conference. When I contacted the front desk to find out what was happening, the person asked if I hadn’t been notified of the situation when I checked in. Obviously not. When I jokingly asked for earplugs, they sent some up. But sadly they were no match for the noise and vibration.
I understand that hotels have to do this periodically and don’t want to close off rooms if they don’t have to. And since we were at a conference and got special rates, I suppose we were the likely candidates for construction noise. Had I been given a choice I would have paid a higher rate for a room that didn’t sound like the ceiling was
going to crash in, or I would have made plans in advance to be out of the room all day. Just wish I’d had the choice.
I’d surely stay there again, it is a great facility. Just without the noise.

This was my first time back for a big meeting in Chicago since 2019, so I was looking forward to seeing the Ritz again. Many things still a nice as remembered, but several problems, mostly with staff who seemed undertrained. At check-in, the agent thanked me for my loyalty ("platinum" member) and then volunteered that most of the usual benefits of high tier membership would not apply for this trip, since our group paid less than their usual rates (it didn't seem like much less lol!) I'm sure that's true, but there might have been a better way to address it with clients. Anyway, no problem, I really didn't need alot of space or a late checkout. But what I did need was a place to work. The room had no built in desk or work station. There was only a decorative small table (not much bigger than my laptop) with no chair. Also no accessible plugs except by the bed. I noticed a colleague (who I convinced to book the Ritz with me) did have a reasonable size table with chairs. I asked if there was another room-no, they were too booked. I asked for a bigger table and a chair. They did nothing till I asked a manager, then she said they would bring me a chair. Four hours later, I asked why no chair. "Housekeeping was busy." They then did bring me a chair (which was at least a good height for the decorative table), and the manager offered me some Marriott points for my trouble. Then there was the shower. Neither I nor the maid could figure out how to regulate water pressure and heat separately. The front desk said they would send someone, who never came. The next day I asked again, no one at the front desk knew, but they found a technical supervisor was able to explain that all rooms now had only one shower control that went from low volume cold to high volume medium and lower volume hot. I think it's better to have independent controls-I hope this is not a new Marriott wide policy. Finally, one concierge was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, but another seemed to know very little about activities and restaurants (each one I asked about "I've heard that it is good"). A local sushi place she thought was good had a bad fish smell, so we turned around and left. Still great location, the room was clean, with a beautiful bathroom and confortable bed, and the restaurant and outside bar very nice. Not sure if I will go back next year.

I am old enough to remember when staying at the Ritz Carlton was special and exciting, something you started to look forward to weeks in advance of your stay. Sadly, that is no longer true with many Ritz Carlton hotels and they are not one of the chains we now think of when we think luxury hotel chains.

I found myself needing a hotel in Chicago for one night. After looking at the pictures of the Ritz Carlton Chicago rooms on the website, they did not look like the best rooms - think IKEA on a budget. I assumed maybe in reality the rooms probably are much better. In Chicago you have a lot of choices, but in the luxury market, the hotels do charge a premium. In this case, the Ritz was only 40,000 Marriott points, very reasonable, and possibly a sign not to expect luxury. So I booked.

As a Titanium, I am entitled to upgrades, including suites. However, most Marriott and all of its other brands, including the Ritz, play games and do not generally provide upgrades to suites, even if the hotel was empty.

When I arrived at the hotel, the second thing the agent said to me after welcoming to the hotel was "sorry, we were not able to upgrade you to a suite on this stay". I did not push, because it becomes exhausting after a while.

When I walked into the room, I was shocked at how cheap everything looked. It felt dated, even though they had just renovated. It felt child like and it bordered on a cheap motel off the interstate. It was clear housekeeping was not great. The bed was made very sloppy and the room need to be vacuumed. Not sure why they just don't go with hardwood floors.

What was the most disappointing of this stay was the fact the hotel overcharged me and refused to explain why the amount they charged was different from the amount I signed on the room service bill. Despite at least 5 requests, they have not provided an answer. Moreover, the General Manager Peter Simoncelli, as noted by some of the others who have posted reviews on this site, is simply not responsive. He ignored my email, never responded whatsoever. When you have a general manager like that, who clearly does not understand or value customer service or even Marriott core values of positive guest relations, you cannot expect or enjoy a pleasant hotel stay. My stay overall was not the best and my after stay experience has been abysmal.

No cash exchanged hands for this stay (only for room service) only points. So in the season of counting our blessings, I am blessed not to have spent cash to stay at the Ritz Carlton Chicago.

This hotel is so understaffed it’s comical! One bellman on duty, never to be found, and long lines at the front desk for check in and check out. There are four people stationed at the two front desks but only one person at a time can be helped while the other three just stand there and stare at everyone. The rooms are fine but nothing special, trying to get someone to answer the phone when calling the front desk bell stand housekeeping or room service is next to impossible and when they do finally answer they sound rushed and are very impersonal. Food and drinks are fine but unremarkable, paying the bill at the bar took over 45 mins because there was only one waitress serving the bar room, the lobby and the roof deck area. On check out it took over an hour to get my bags from storage and there was no one to help me load my bags into my car (or any other guests for that matter), causing me to have a panic attack the whole way to the airport and I almost missed my flight. Not what I would call a luxury experience. They could afford to pay a bellman for a week with I was charged for one night, I really saw no value in this property and was rather disappointed for a Ritz.

I’m met my daughter in Chicago for the weekend and we decided to treat ourselves by staying at the Ritz Carlton. We are titanium Bonvoy members and love all Marriott properties. I have never been so disappointed with a stay with one of the Bonvoy properties. First and foremost, I felt like we were treated horribly from the beginning of my experience. I wanted to add my daughter to the reservation and got the runaround before I was finally directed to an 800 number to add her. This took over 45 minutes of my time to have resolved .
My flight was canceled, but my daughter arrived. I was now not arriving until the next day. She said she was treated so rudely by the front desk staff and was told she was not able to check in because she was not old enough. I understand the rules but the rudeness is so disappointing.
Our room was very average, and as a titanium member, I am used to always being upgraded. This room overlooked a roof with a horrible view. The As was the hotel. Not Ritz Carlton quality or service at all. Entire hotel was very average. As a titanium, Bonvoy member, I felt as if we were treated like second-class citizens. I would never stay at another Ritz Carlton based on my experience here I would much rather stay at a Marriott or a JW and receive the quality treatment that is consistent with those properties. I think Ritz Carlton needs to be more transparent with the fact that they don’t honor and treat their titanium envoy members. The way the other properties do I felt for the amount of points that we utilized. It was a complete waste don’t waste your money or your points, stay at another property in the area.

Just did not have the class/services I would expect when paying Ritz room rates! No gym with the hotel. If you want to workout you have to pay $15 to workout at the huge public Equinox gym that is located in the hotel. Also our room shook when the muscle heads in the gym would drop their hundreds of pounds of weights on the gym floor. The restaurant was being redone so breakfast was served in a ballroom…not very special. Most hotels of this caliber have a nice complimentary coffee bar. Not this ritz. There were two keurig coffee machines placed on a rolling cart by the check in area. Just felt very cheap. We live at a Ritz residence so we were just so surprised and put off by how pedestrian this Ritz was.

Please call the hotel directly to get a response to all those questions.

Dear JR2974, Thank you for your question! The Red Wagon Toy Cart is brought out during check in when there are children present. Sometimes, if the child is in the lobby with one parent while another parent is checking in, it can be missed if the Front Desk doesn't notice the guest is with a child. My recommendation would be to call the Front Desk or Guest Relations prior to arrival and let them know when your family will be arriving (such as 3-4PM) and that your family will be traveling with young children so they can note your reservation properly. In addition, our Candy Cart is available by reservation nightly from 4PM-6PM. It is complimentary and the cart comes to your guest room and the kids can make a little bag of candy to eat during their stay. I hope this answers your questions! Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season! Sincerely, Kathryn Howard Director of Quality
