We had a fabulous stay at the huts, the facilities were second to none and have definitely set the expectation bar high for us for the rest of our New Zealand self drive holiday.
The attention to detail by John and Jane in accommodating the self drive tourist is second to none. There’s a beautiful little herb garden to use when preparing your meals, and almost every utensil you could imagine you might need to prepare an amazing meal. But our favourite would have to be the fire pit and the well stocked wood pile!
Huts are far enough apart to maintain guests’ privacy but still close enough to the shared bathroom facilities. The outdoor bath would have been amazing if we weren’t such cold weather sooks! :)

Firstly Jane and John were super easy to deal with. They were positive communicators and provided the answers to our questions before we got to ask them.
Secondly we were very fortunate. Having booked a room in the house we ended up with no other guests and the place to ourselves. However, we were very sure that if the other two rooms had been occupied it was more likely to have been a positive than a negative.
Our room (Turquoise) was spacious as was the attached bathroom. Rooms had lovely views across farmland to the hills.
The while place was spotlessly clean.
Exceptionally well equipped. This was like being the guest in a very good friends empty home.
Essentials (e.g. tea, coffee, milk, bread various preserves, condiments and sauces) were also provided.
As a bonus the Seefried Winery is about 500m down the road!
Short (12min) drive to Mapua Wharf for good range of bars and restaurants.
Great place for us to stay on journey from Frank Josef as a break before heading to Marlborough Valley.

We have really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Rabbit Island Huts. They are very comfortable and well equipped set in a beautiful peaceful setting. Different hut options available and we chose a hut with an ensuite bathroom and a TV. There is a very well equipped communal kitchen cabin which also has delicious complimentary bread, jams, tea, coffee and this week - feijoas. Another separate lounge cabin has comfy sofas and blankets plus books and games. We made use of the private outside bath and new sauna. Bliss when the weather was a bit damp!

These huts are such a unique stay, you must go and check it out. Jane & John run a most amazing little outfit here. There are options between ensuite huts, shared bathrooms or glamping it. We are a family of four and we split up with boys in one, and girls in the other hut, sharing a bathroom with only one other hut. A total of 6 huts, and 1 clamping tent. The kitchen is well equipped, with the best of homemade breads and jams. An outdoor fire experience with lots of marshmallows on offer. A seperate lounge for hanging out, where you can buy your refreshments and hang out in the warm private lounge. There is a cute little library set up in a very old caravan, with some great current titles. What more do you need. This is a top star experience in the Nelson region. Thanks heaps Jane.

From the beginning. Clear instructions, clean, unique and peaceful setting. The best accomodation in a long time. Friendly owners. Enjoyed the outdoor bath under the stars. The sourdough bread and fridge food supplied was all we needed. Will come again, thank you.

The huts are small but they have an amazing kitchen area, lounge area and outdoor BBQ and firepit area so we didn't struggle too much with the small hut. They were also kind enough for us to rent it with our kid. We just all shared the bed which was fine for 2 nights. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back. Our son loved it, especially the fire pit. They also had all the kitchen stuff you would need. Initially wasn't keen on the "shared bath" but it was so clean and my son had one and said it was awesome. We cleaned it once we got out. There was clean spray provided for this. All in all an amazing place to stay. Would recommend.

All of the glowing reviews are accurate, but I just wanted to recognize an act of kindness and above and beyond customer service. We were staying at the huts for a couple of days during the semi finals of the World Cup. I inquired about the possibility of watching the game and Jane very graciously let us watch the game on her Sky Tv in the big house that they also rent, but happened to be vacant. She didn’t need to do that and I really appreciated it!

We stayed in the huts for a get away. It was well presented, clean and all the amenities you could need. The kitchen was great, outside open fire and outside bath. Great place. I’d go back again if in the area for sure.

Attended my nephews wedding and stayed in one of the ensuite huts. What a super venue! Beautiful surroundings, wide open spaces and great communal kitchen and bathroom facilities for those staying in the huts accommodation. The huts were small but cute and clean... all we needed for our one nights stay👍

What a great find ... off the beaten track, simple, clean, contemporary and comfortable accommodation.

We particularly liked the outdoor bath complete with shooting star show ...

Also very close to the village of Mapua which is home to some great restaurants, a brew house and cafe.

Hi pleased to help. Yes the lovely units are heated, and very comfortable, we enjoyed biking in the area both towards and into Naples and further up the coast towards Abel Tasman. The drive to the beginning of Abel Tasman is about 1 hour, and good roads but some of the activities do stop after Easter, as the weather gets a bit cooler. Enjoy🙂 your trip
