Our summer '19 visit to The Longhorn Guest Ranch was one of the best vacations we've ever had!
This ranch property is second to none on the "breathtakingly beautiful" scale. The ranch is nestled among a secluded 210 acres of the amazingly beautiful High Valley. The meadow view alone, which can be seen from all cabins and from the lodge, made us not want to leave!
The new owners, Vickie and Jason Johnson are amazing people who made our stay unforgettable. We felt like family! They have made incredible improvements on the ranch since taking ownership in late 2018.
The cabins are very cozy and comfortable while the lodge in very homey and welcoming. If you are a nature lover, you will be in a happy place at this ranch! Beavers and Moose in the ponds, Elk and deer can be spotted on the property throughout the year, and a plethora of other critters (birds & Chipmunks) scamper about.
The horse trail rides are spectacular, from open meadows to mountain trials covered in pine forests, there's a ride for everyone. But if horses aren't your thing, the trails can be hiked, or mnt biked. There's even some very fine fishing lakes just a mile or two up the road. And don't forget about the amazing people you'll meet staying at the ranch!
We met wonderful people from all over the world vacationing at the ranch, people we will never forget from Germany, Switzerland, and a very nice retired policemen from upstate New York.
Remember this is a working ranch, so if you're so inclined, fixing fencelines, breaking beaver dams, and tossing hay from the hay loft are all part of a days work on the ranch. Helping keep the ranch looking and working good really makes you feel like you are part of something special!
So special in fact that we've already booked our next stay for this summer! See you soon Vickie and Jason!

As a self-proclaimed city-slicker, this girl didn't know what to expect. But I fell in love with the animals, the view and the serene atmosphere. If you want an amazing escape, you found it. The drive was pretty easy from the Boise airport and when you get there, you feel like you are in a different world. The staff is fun and attentive and I loved the overall feel of the ranch. To sit out by the campfire and star gaze while cattle roam in the pasture was surreal. This was my first visit, but it will NOT be my last...

We had a wonderful week at the 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch. Our two kids (10 and 13 years) had a great time discovering real horsemanship with Brad, the owner. Brad is a real cowboy, and the kids just loved him from the very first moment. He did a wonderful job to spread his life and love for cowboy tradition and horsemanship to the girls. We all enjoyed that days very much, probably best of our holidays so far... The cabins are simple but very nice, decorated with love and clean. Food is excellent, thanks to a wonderful cook. Just can recommend everybody to come here, relax and enjoy. Every day we had wonderful trail rides, was fun chasing the cows every morning. Simply said: Great Ranch, wonderful Cowboy. Thanks Brad.

The stay at 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch was absolutely unforgettable. I wanted to try horse-riding, but I imagined that it would be one of those experiences which include waiting, lining up, trodding down safe paths, eating 'commercial' foods....etc...But those things are exactly what 4D Longhorn is NOT!! Brad, Sharon & even little Dustin provided a great, homely and wonderful place to spend a day and a night. I come from Singapore...but all 3 made me feel right at home in the lodge.
It was refreshing to get away from the busyness of life and get out to the ranch...to see the expanse of land...the freedom one feels is indescribable. Brad is fantastic to teach and show how one preps the horses for the ride. With great patience, he taught me (a green-horn) to ride with confidence. To my surprise, Brad then took me for an unforgettable ride up and around the hills, away from the usual paths, into the wild. The freedom one gets, just roaming around the place without a 'set' path, is amazing. Brad - I must say a big thank you for that great ride and the fantastic view we got throughout the ride. Thank you also for the many wild huckleberries you picked along the way so that we can have 'huckleberry-toasts'!
Sharon cooks up lovely meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner....making me feel like royalty whenever the food is laid before me.
From the outside, 4D Ranch feels a little like a blast from the past. Brad has made the place look like from good old western days......but inside...the rooms are very comfortable, cosy and lovely.
A great place to take the family to....especially when there's little Friday (small horse) for the children to ride on. WIshed my children and husband were with me for this trip.
I would suggest that if anyone is going whitewater rafting near Horseshoe Bend to plan proceed onwards to 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch for a night's rest and then an unforgettable day of riding.

I was trying to find a last minute horseback ride near McCall, ID and stumbled upon this ranch. The owner was really accommodating. The ranch is located in Cascade and easy to find despite being up a cool dirt road, about ten mins off the 55. I'd been on several rides in other areas before, but the brief lesson we were given was ten times better than any previous one I'd received. Brad is a great guy and excellent teacher. We had two 10 year olds and Brad and his horses were great with them. We took a short two hour ride after the lesson and really got the feel of the horses. It wasn't your typical plodding ride with one horse in front of the other all going at a snails pace. We went up hills, trotted, down a nice hill, through a pond and Brad used my cell phone to take some great family pics for us. I'm looking forward to coming back for a longer stay in an upcoming year.

I was introduced to the 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch through Living Social. I am always looking for fun activities that I can take my family on. They had a deal where you would get a 1 hour riding lesson, a 2 hour trail ride and either lunch or dinner in the package. This ranch is located in Cascade, Idaho which is about an hour and a half drive north of Boise Idaho in the mountains. It is a very beautiful property and Brad the owner has created an amazing western environment. He built the lodge and all of the other buildings and it is like an old western town. Brad was extremely personalble and very flexible in the scheduling. We were running a little late, the cell phone coverage is spotty at best, and Brad gave me good directions. The drive north follows the Payette river and the drive itself is awesome. When we arrived, Brad had lunch prepared. Nothing fancy, but just what you would expect at a ranch. We got to take a look around the lodge and see all of the western artifacts, all the mounted animals and the authentic western artifacts on display. After eating lunch we headed out to the corral and saddled up. Brad took us to a larger corral and began the lesson. We have experience riding as we have 5 horses of our own, and it was good to see that Brad wanted to see what level of experience we had and tailored his instruction to our experience level. He shared a lot of good riding points and before you knew it, we were off on the trail ride. We rode through beautiful meadows and up into the mountains crossing small creeks & streams. There were a total of 5 of us on the ride and he had us split up and go different directions in small groups and met up again. The weather was perfect, it had sprinkled earlier in the day but it was cool and a little breezy during our ride. If you are looking for a fun adventure, I would higly recommend you take the short ride out to the 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch for a trail ride.

Just returned from an awesome 10 day break with my friend at Brad Ford's 4D Longhorn Ranch. The pictures don't do the ranch (quaint) & it's scenery (breath-taking) enough justice. There's no itinerary, Brad (The Crazy Cowboy) aims to arrange each day according to the guest's wishes. Not for the faint hearted, you're constantly covered in dirt & dust. We rode up and down mountain trails (if there isn't a trail we'll make one!) that we'd never have dared to attempt back here in the UK, the horses were great, not riding school horses that just follow the same old routes. During the 10 days, I rode 6 horses, allowing them to rest after some pretty long rides (generally 2 rides a day). We took the horses via trailer & then rode/camped under the stars (no tents) in the Rocky Mountains, walked up rivers, rode down a main road to a restaurant & "parked" our horses outside whilst we ate. We trekked to a lake, took off our boots and the horses swam with us on their backs. We hearded cattle daily and also went to a neighbouring farm to help wrangle their cattle too. We saw Osprey, Fish-hawks, (oh, we went fishing for trout for dinner also) Turkey Buzzards, deer, loads of chipmunks & black squirrels. We heard coyotes & saw bear paw prints too. Our accommodation was one of the wooden cabins, lit by gas lamp & containing a comfy double and single bed. No TV or WiFi for 10 days was great! The bathrooms are located separately and shared, they have good hot showers and are really clean. The food was good but vegetarians are not well catered for; local shops are miles away,so not easily overcome. This is an authentic ranch so expect to eat what the locals eat - meat! Daisy & John are the resident donkeys..they just walk about the place at their leisure. Raymond (deaf) & Hoyt (cow & donkey terrorist) are the lovely ranch dogs. Brad was always accommodating & has a great sense of humour. He continuously tried to mimic our English accents-badly! Dale is the resident ranch-hand and along with Vicky, also made our stay amazing. Cowboy hats and some clothes are available to buy on the ranch. Take plenty of jeans, shitrs, t-shirts and a jacket for the evenings. We enjoyed it so much we're planning to visit again next year.

We had an amazing two weeks at the 4D Longhorn Guest Ranch. Brad the owner and main Cowboy really helped us to improve on our riding skills dramatically.
In the kitchen there was John who made sure we would eat really well every day we were there.
The guest ranch is nicely situated away from all the traffic and unwanted noises. It's a great place to get away from all the stress that society and big city life bring along.
There is no question that our family will be back at this beautiful place. The accommodations in the old-western-style-look really make you enter a time in the past.
Brad is an amazing host and will make sure that you have lots of fun and he is very helpful for anything you might need or want to do during your stay.
I highly adivse this place to anyone who wants to have the true cowboy experience, including herding cattle and so on!
Thank you for everything! We will be back!

My partner and I stayed here for a week and were impressed by the hospitality offered to us by Brad the rancher owner and Norma and Sharon the cooks. There were only 3 guests so we took things at our pace. Brad was a good instructor and encouraged us to push ourselves when it came to riding, especially going up all those steep forest trails! Those horses are amazing...... they're like mountain goats! What a brilliant setting for a ranch, Brad designed and built it by himself! It was good wholesome food, just what you need after a morning riding. I would highly recommend this ranch over any other 'dude' or 'guest' ranch, no pool, tv or children. We even went to a local rodeo. Idaho is such a beautiful state full of forests and rivers. We were disapointed not to have more time to explore the local area. Brad offerred to taken us rafting but we wanted to stay on the ranch. Go there next year, you'll love it!
