Stay Report - 8/26 to 8/27

Location: The hotel is located on Hill Avenue (US 221) just east of I-75.  Nearby are a number of fast food restaurants as well as sit down chains (there's a Waffle House sharing the parking lot) and some gas stations.  VLD Airport is about 15 minutes away and downtown Valdosta (which is surprisingly present) is ten minutes away.

Hotel: The hotel is a very pleasant new construction building.  It has a large parking lot, well appointed lobby with a bar and restaurant and a small outdoor pool and seating area.  There's also a sweet shop in the lobby.  The restaurant and bar are currently open for breakfast and dinner and service there was incredible.

Check In: A friendly agent thanked me for being Spire and made sure I got my Welcome Amenity points.

Room: I booked a "Business Suite" which gave me a larger room with living room area complete with couch and TV, work space, kitchenette with Keurig and fridge and microwave and a larger bathroom.  My only complaints are that the TV is really far from the bed and that if you're in bed the Wifi doesn't work.

I ended up very impressed with this hotel and the service I received here.  If I was back in the area I'd gladly stay here again.

This was my 3rd stay here but first in many years. Upon arrival, I requested an upgrade for my Diamond level IHG status but was abruptly told that the hotel was full! ok, I understand. I then asked, if possible, to have a room with a tub. No trouble so we checked in and went to a room which only had a shower! Back to the lobby and a different, but friendlier person. She gave us a room but upon arrival there, we found a tub but also drooping drapes and a loose lock on main door plus it was a connecting room. Back to the lobby and the same second person, but she disappeared and a manager appeared. The manager was very apologetic and offered us each a free drink. She gave us an end room, which I believe she called an "Endeavour" room, which she said was one usually reserved for Delta pilots. We got there and it did have a tub but was also a connecting one. I gave up! The weirdest aspect of this room was the location of the toilet. To stand in front of the sink, one had to straddle the toilet since it stuck out and obviously was a last minute placement. (see picture) We headed to the bar area for our free drink plus decided to use our 1/2 price drink/appetizer coupon that everyone receives for a steak quesadilla appetizer. It was mostly soggy ground beef, but it did for our dinner since we weren't too hungry after a mid-afternoon lunch in Cordele. We had planned to go to Publix and get some wine and maybe some snacks, but we decided just to make do with one drink and a split appetizer so money saved! While we were having our appetizer, the manager walked by and asked about our room. I thanked her for her attention but stated that our room was a connecting one. She immediately had the bartender give up a 2nd round of drinks; me Gin & Tonic, other half, white wine. We finished our appetizer and took the remaining drinks to the room and got to bed early. Breakfast the next morning which I receive complimentary as a Diamond perk was very good with great service. The 2 servers and the chef were very friendly and welcoming. I got a large glass of water, which I refilled twice. I had the biscuits and gravy which came with 2 eggs and a meat (I had bacon, which I requested soft but it was a quite firm since they must prepare the bacon in advance and just keep it warm!) Other half had a wrap and a bowl of fruit.
In summary, manager tried her best. She said she would have definitely upgraded us to a suite due to my status had the hotel not been full. The breakfast team was fantastic and as welcoming as I remembered 5+ years ago. I would still give this place another chance but would hope for no issues, although I did enjoy 2 rounds of free drinks.

I stay at this hotel quite often, this morning I stopped at the front desk and asked for my room to be cleaned, the desk clerk said I hope so.
As I returned back at 6 pm, no one had cleaned or left fresh towels, I asked for towels, took 30 mins, when I said something to the front desk girl, I was very sternly told due to Covid, they don’t go into rooms anymore.
So let me get this straight, I am paying full price both nights but I can’t get me room cleaned?
Do yourself a favor and pick another hotel, I will!

Sherri -- I am really disappointed that we fell short in our efforts to clean your room as you had requested. As was noted, we are staying out of our guestrooms as much as possible when they are occupied to ensure the safety of everyone, but we also are cleaning rooms when asked. I will look into why your request was not honored to ensure we do better going forward. Thank you for staying with us! Melissa Simmons, General Manager

Upon arrival and entering the lobby, this is an impressive Hotel with a lot of eye appeal.
The Day Staff was friendly, inviting, and most hospitable.
We secured a Family Suite that was very nice, well appointed, and cleaned to a sparkle.
But, this is where it ends.
The entire facility is posted as a totally smoke-free hotel inside and out with rules posted; no food and drinks around and in the pool and spa area with a limit of five persons utilizing the spa for no more than fifteen to twenty minutes.
As we entered the pool deck several people were smoking and drinking.
The spa had eleven people packed into it smoking cigarettes, blunts, among other cigarettes as well as drinking various alcoholic drinks from glass and plastic containers and glass bottles.
Toddlers were also in the spa with some of the adults. The time limit was totally ignored as this group remained in the spa for some several hours.
This same group of people continued partying on the adjacent patio to the pool deck through the night until the early morning hours drinking, smoking various substances while yelling and laughing and talking loudly keeping us awake as well.
We felt the nighttime staff should have been aware of this disturbing activity, being that this group was loud going in and out of the building, slamming doors with a facility that is well equipped with CC cameras.
We did choose not to complain or confront management due to the cultural climate that is very much present at this time.

Booked for four nights. Location is convenient to the highway, but the neighborhood around and directly to the east of the hotel appears to be run down and rough.

The room was clean but dark. It appears that a renovation was done at some point where all of the hallways and the rooms were painted a darker shade of grey, it really makes the halls and rooms seem dark even though there were multiple lights in the room.

The main reason for the bad review is the fact that the internet was really, really bad. I consistently showed full bars for wifi strength, but the internet only worked about a tenth of the time and for only a few minutes at a time when it was working. Couldn't get any work done over wifi and ended up using a ton of cell data to compensate. If you need wifi take my advice and book somewhere else.

The initial contact with the staff was great because they allowed us to come a day early. I paid the additional cost, which was fine, but that was the only positive experience at this location. We arrived to the room, we were greeted with stained pillows and the mattress from the pullout couch was covered with crumbs, paper and stains. It was late when we arrived, so I decided to address the problems in the morning. I made contact with the front desk, and began to explain the situation. As I was speaking, the guest services clerk continued to interrupt me as I was speaking and was quite rude. Once I was able to clearly explain what the issue was, she advised me that I could either have the room cleaned, move to a different room, or do whatever! It was presented in that exact rude tone as if I was disturbing her. I was issued a new room and when I tried to enter the room I discovered the door to be malfunctioning. This new room was also smaller than the last. The cleaning staff assisted me with getting the door open after several attempts. At this point, I was completely disappointed with the quality of this visit and the quality of service I had received. In addition to the dirty living space, I noticed paint chipping from the walls and the showers were in need of proper cleaning. At this time, this will not be a place that I revisit!

We came in at 2:30 am, I would of left but no other place to go. We stayed in room 608. White stains on couch. Floors were not vacuumed, the floors need a good shampoo and furniture needs cleaned. The bed sheets smelled of a odor not sure what it was. If this was all done it would of been a nice place to stay. Front desk girl was nice when we came in.

After a disappointing stay in ATL at a different brand, we stopped here overnight on our way to Florida. The desk agent wore a mask, and a protective screen was in place.

Our room was clean and updated. Numerous plugs for chargers, and coffee, microwave, etc. there to use. Room was spotless, elevator had social distancing place markers, ice machine was conveniently located.

We could hear people partying by the pool until pretty late, but didn't keep us up.

Nice hotel, well maintained, thoughtful staff, clean rooms.

we've stayed here before and it was wonderful. Loved the breakfast. This year we were traveling with 4 couples and bragged about the breakfast. This year it was terrible. No milk at all (seriously??). Most of the pans were empty. When I asked the woman who was mopping floors if she could help find whoever was working the breakfast bar and she said it was her and she'd be right with us. Kept mopping floors and more people started showing up for breakfast. Don't think she cared. Said there was water on the floor and it was a hazard so she needed to get it done. We never saw any water at all. She kept mopping all the way down the hall. We ended up going to Dennys.
