Detailed Reviews
I stay here every time I visit my boyfriend at FSU. It is practically on campus. The rooms are OK, they have comfortable beds and they are clean, but not the Ritz by any means. If you're going to Tallahassee and don't plan on just hanging around the hotel, and are especially there for a game or just to visit FSU, it is the BEST location in town.
And for a great price, and with friendly staff.

My fiance, myself and our 3 children stayed here for 3 nights. The room was pretty nice with a refrigerator, microwave, blowdryer, iron and nice TV ( straight cable with no option to rent movies). The linens were clean and the beds were somewhat comfortable. The rooms were kind of small but we made it work. The shower could have used some extra cleaning...a little mold and rust had accumulated.
As far as the location- i would not recommend staying here unless you are a young, party animal who could care less if you sleep. All we heard for 3 nights beginning around 9p was screaming, yelling, fighting, horns blowing, cop sirens, bass from car stereos and motors of cars who were trying to race. We stepped outside to see what was going on and there were 3 to 4 clubs right across the street from us and apparently this is a nightly college thing. We saw fights, people getting arrested, cars being towed all night and everyone seemed to be drunk and wandering around. The street was busy so i am really suprised no one got hit by a car. If you want to be a part of Mardi Gras but don't want to go to New Orleans...just come here!!!

We are sorry for the inconveniences you had with our establishment during your stay. As far as the noise from the bars across the street, unfortunately, in order for us to provide our convenience with FSU's campus, we are located in a busy, downtown area but our staff is willing to accommodate room changes to a quieter section of our property. Once again we apologize for your experiences with our establishment.

I swear I'm not a whiners but this place was terrifying. By far the best part of this hotel was the front desk employee. From there it was like the hindinberg.
The short version is that the room was awful. So awful I said there is no way I am sleeping under the covers. My son responds that we have blankets in the car. Then my wife pipes up and says " I'm not ruining our blankets"
As I said the front counter person was great and friendly

Was traveling to Tally for a conference at the Holiday Inn Select, but chose to stay at the University Motel due to it's location to FSU dorms. The night clerk was expecting my late arrival due to a possible rain delay, and he was extremely nice. I had less than 5 minute walk to my daughter's dorm (didn't have to drive around looking for a parking space!) and walked back after dark under well-lit streets. The room was not fancy, but it had everthing I needed for a one night stay. I will always stay here when in Tally as long as my daughter is in the dorms.

Apart from bad reviews I read, It is definitely not as bad as people make it sound. We stayed there for one of the football game weekend. The hotel is walking distance from FSU campus (which was great). I was impressed by all of the staff within the hotel. Overall it was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed my stay and will be staying here again.

After reading few bad reviews on booking.com and on tripadvisor i was bit hesitated to book my stay, but when i got to the hotel it was nothing like the bad reviews that i have read. This hotel is of course not like one of those 5 stars hotel but overall when you have clean rooms with no bad odor, great service and freindly staff thats all one can ask for. I definitely will be staying here again when i visit tallahassee. The only downside is that it's on busy street, but you can't blame the hotel for being on busy street. Its up to individual if they choose to stay there with the noise or not.

This place is nothing less than disgusting. I am currently here, awake at 5:30 AM because I am too afraid to get under the filthy comforter on the bed. The price of the room ($45) appealed to my 30 year old boyfriend who feels the need to come back to his alma mater and drink at the bars across the street from this hotel. (And on a side note, those bars are absolute hole in the wall establishments.) The noise level is just ridiculous. Especially for a Wednesday night. You can hear music from the bars across the street until 2 AM. I could hear the neighbors on either side of us till 3 AM. You can hear drunk people screaming out on the sidewalk. It sounds like nascar on the major street in front of the hotel. I swear the walls here are made of paper. There is no way you can get any sleep here. The inside of the room is horrific. The carpet is all torn, it's dusty, and the bathroom is so gross. There is mildew all over the shower curtain and the bottom of the tub is dirty. There were footprints on the bathroom floor tile when we arrived. Speaking of mildew, the room smells so strongly of mildew that I had a headache after about 2 hours of being in here. When the air comes on, it blows a huge, cold, mildew smelling cloud. The smell is just choking. I wanted to leave immediately when we got in the room, but it was already 9:30 at night and my boyfriend was tired. We were supposed to stay here two nights, but as soon as my boyfriend wakes up (which is hopefully within the next hour or two) we are checking out and NEVER returning. I know the price and location of this place relative to campus are appealing, but DON'T DO IT. It wil be the worst night of sleep you have ever had.

On the behalf of the University Inn and Suites we would like to apologize for your experiences at our establishment. We were horrified to hear about the dirtiness of the room and have alerted our housekeeping staff to fix this immediately. Our front office staff would have accommodated a room change to a quieter and cleaner room. Once again we are sorry about your experiences with our establishment.

The room and amenities were acceptable for the price and the two beetles in the bed were harmless.
With that said--The hotel is obviously party city for outlaws of all kinds. After witnessing some unsavory characters and transactions in the parking lot and hallway, we rushed to our room where we coward all night. The guests (being kind) were yelling obscenities and threats to each other most of the evening as they came and went. We were too intimidated to go out to the ice machine and had concerns for our car. The blaring of music subsided about 3:30 am; however, the street noise didn’t. It was the worst I have every experienced, not just cars, but sirens, motorcycle revving, drag racing all night long. The AC was a life saver as it muffled some decibels of the noise, but when the AC cycled off, we were subjected to loudest assaults on our attempts to fall asleep.
You know what the say LOCATION is everything. I can only blame myself as I didn’t research the area, which I normally would if I’m not familiar with the city.

We are sorry to hear about your stay with us. We recently began responding to customer feedback to improve our customer service, we apologize for the delay. Upon hearing of your experience with our establishment, we notified our pest control services and began procedures to prevent rodents from infesting our property. As far as the noise from the bars across the street, unfortunately, in order for us to provide our convenience with FSU's campus, we are located in a busy, downtown area but our staff is willing to accommodate room changes to a quieter section of our property. Our staff is also willing to deal with unruly pedestrians that disturb our patrons, along with frequent patrols from the FSU Police. We are sorry for the inconveniences you had with our establishment during your stay.

My son and I stayed here for one night.
First, the good stuff:
The beds were comfortable, and the room was quiet, once the door was shut.
Now, the other stuff:
The first impression was poor. The guy at the front desk (once he showed up) was apparently having a bad day and wanted to spread the feeling.
The surface of the toilet seat delaminating. How do they ensure its cleanliness?
There was a considerable amount of grime in the bottom of the shower.
There was a thick layer of dirt on the window sill. While this is not a huge issue by itself, it does show a careless approach to cleaning.
The TV belongs in a museum. No joke!
The wifi was advertised as free. That's technically true, but is was so unbelievably slow that is was unusable. We ended up using my cell-phone's data.
We were supplied with one very thin small piece of soap. I applaud efforts to cut down on waste, but this was ridiculous.
And the final impressions:
This seemed to me to be a place where cost-cutting had gone to extremes. However, interestingly, the same person showed up to the front desk when we were leaving. He was quite friendly, so maybe the day before just was a bad day for him.

After reading so many negative reviews here I had doubt but it's a clean, nice little inn and very convenient location. It seems bathroom has been resurfaced and sink/showers were clean. They charge half of holiday inn and Hampton so what they offered met the expectations ( that is one car parking, walking distance from university campus , clean room). There are no amenities besides that but worked well for a solo traveler.
