I called Howard Johnson four separate times to ask them to hold my room even though I would not be there until the next day. I was not attempting to ask for a refund. I was just trying to get them to hold my room for the night. I fully expected to pay for all 5 nights even though I would only be staying 4 nights.
The next day when I arrived in Tallahassee, I immediately went to the Howard Johnson to check in. They told me that they had not answered my call because "sometimes the phones mess up" and that they had sold my room to someone else and had no other available rooms. I asked about getting a refund, but they said that I would have to contact Priceline to get a refund.
I booked another hotel through Priceline and contacted Priceline about getting a refund for the reservation at Howard Johnson. Even after I explained the situation to Priceline about how their vendor did not fulfill the contract, they said that they would need to contact the Howard Johnson in order to get me a refund for an approved cancellation. Again, I was not trying to cancel. I just wanted them to uphold my reservation or refund my money. Howard Johnson did not answer the phone for Priceline either. Priceline said they would escalate the situation for their team to email the Howard Johnson and investigate, but I didn't hear back. I called Priceline again, and we went through the same process where they could not contact the Howard Johnson via phone and needed to contact them via email. After a while I heard back from Priceline that they would not be giving me my money back because Howard Johnson did not approve my cancellation.
I called Priceline back again to reexplain that I was asking for a refund due to a failure to fulfill the contract, and they said they couldn't do anything about getting my money back unless it was approved by Howard Johnson, the vendor who refused to fulfill the contract. I even had my father call on my behalf, and he received the same information from Priceline.
I have still been refused a refund of the $363.75 that I spent on this reservation.
The first room was dirty, nothing was plugged in and the tables were supposed to have glass tops but they didn't.
The second room was better but not by much. It was still dirty, the privacy lock didn't have a switch thing, and the AC was loud and didn't have a control panel. The water never got hot and there was dirt on the box spring mattresses.
I requested a refund through booking.com but because I used a third party booking place, they refused. Please if you values your safety and sanity, don't go here.
