Sugarloaf Logde is a family run, 31 unit waterfront resort in the Florida Keys 13 miles from Key West. All of our rooms face the water with sunset views and if you have a boat you can park it behind your room. The lodge has a Tiki Bar, marina, pool, tennis courts, and airstrip. Unfortunately, we do not allow pets but we are perfect for families, kayakers and flats fisherman. A fifteen minute drive from all that Key West has to offer without the crowds and high prices.

This is our 2nd year staying at Sugarloaf Lodge for Thanksgiving. The rooms are a little dated (retro!) but clean and have everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows. Refrigerator in the room was nice for storing our lunch supplies and drinks for the boat trips. Shower was awesome and lots of hot water! Boat dock right outside our room was great and no charge for docking the boat and plenty of trailer parking. Marina is next door and costs $10 total to launch and retrieve. Marina also has gas, ice, bait, snacks, boat rentals, and kayak rentals. The view is amazing from the dock. The night sky is so clear. Due to Covid, the Tiki Bar is currently closed and the restaurant requires anyone not from Monroe County to eat on the back deck or take food to go (we decided to eat elsewhere). It is an easy 17 mile drive to Key West. There are several restaurants around to get breakfast, lunch and dinner. The housekeeping and maintenance staff are all very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Since the main part of our trip is boating, Sugarloaf provides everything we need. We are already planning our next trip.

We loved the Sugarloaf Lodge! After determining that Key West was just too expensive to stay in we found the Sugarloaf Lodge and stayed an extra night than we originally planned. The office staff was great; friendly and helpful. We had the upstairs, end king room with a balcony. All rooms have a view of the bay which is right outside. The room was large with newer tropical style furnishings. It could use some updates like the light switches and heater in the bathroom. Other than that it was very clean. The pool was nice and clean and even though it was across the parking lot it felt secluded from the road. There is a restaurant and a Tiki bar attached to the lodge with fun drinks, snacks and live music on Friday night. We would stay there again!

This is about our fourth trip. This place is great. A clean old Florida motel 25 minutes from Key West with a 60’s vibe. Every room has a water view and chairs to sit outside. They also have a fridge. No cooking so no microwave. No fishing from the shore either. Great ac and tv with free wifi. Good but expensive restaurant within walking distance. Much cheaper than any Key West hotel. The tiki bar is still closed due to COVID but they provide coffee there in the mornings. If you don’t expect a Marriott, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

This hotel meets it’s two hotel star rating. Barely. One of the descriptions for two hotel stars is affordable, although for us it was, paying several hundred dollars for a room here is quite expensive. Basic needs are met. Our room was clean, it had functioning although loud AC, running hot water and clean towels. The bed mattresses are very soft, it sank deeply under my light weight teen grandson, I woke up with a backache. As somebody had already mentioned, the entire hotel is tired, the pool is clean but it is surrounded by dilapidated wooden furniture. Our view of the bay was marred by many pieces of white foam scattered all over the grass, with very thick solid layer of brownish foam floating on the water and in the dock. Hot coffee in the morning, was available at the tiki hut and was appreciated, however the dispensers were sitting white towels absolutely soaked with brown coffee, not appetizing. The restaurant was not open for breakfast, the tiki bar was closed throughout the day. It’s location close to Key West is great advantage.

Went there in February and picked it for low cost vs. other places close to Key West. While the rooms are a bit dated, you can't beat the price and everything was clean and well maintenanced.

There's a pool and waterfront views right out your back door, and there was even a little farmers market that takes place on the front of the property on Wednesdays.

We'll definitely be going back again.

Sugarloaf Lodge has become the “go to” place for us. It is classic 70’s retro, very relaxed, laid back, and convenient. It’s away from the crowds of Key West but an easy drive into town when you want to. The staff is very pleasant, helpful, and if you really just want to wind down, this is a great place for it. Sitting on the back deck and watching the ocean, wildlife, and breathing in the salt air is perfect for us. It’s not fancy, so don’t expect that. Just expect the keys like they used to be. We’ll definitely be back!

Room was okay for a 50 year old hotel. There is a fridge. Seemed some folks there are staying as a long term hostel. There were men hanging out in the parking lot sitting on folding chairs drinking beer and grilling. We did not get a good vibe from them or this place. Would not return.

Spent one night in Room 310. Overpriced for what it is. Looks like it was built in mid-1980s. Nothing really bad about it, but nothing particularly good either. Comfortable bed. Unreliable internet. Don't expect to video-conference with your office. Somewhat older and worn. Peeling wallpaper, dark mould in the shower which had probably been there for months. Toilet handle was about to come loose, which I fixed for them. Toilet paper holder was about to come off the wall. Coffee in the lobby, but no breakfast.

I wasn't sure what we had signed up for, but it was the only thing I could find at short notice and for one night ($250). The reviews were good and no one had any negative comments.
Well, we loved it. It is dated, but the room was clean and well maintained. The beds were comfy and the AC worked great. The location was very quiet even with the restaurant on property. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice. We would stay here again, but I don't think I could spend a week here. It is a nice "motel" or Lodge, but Its not a weekly thing for my family.

No, there aren’t really a lot of flats fish in the bay around the Lodge and we don’t allow fishing from the property shore. We had a lot of issues with people taking protected and undersized fish so we decided to make it a “look” only area which has really helped our fish population. There are places to which you can kayak and flats fish. You can also rent or charter boats from the Sugarloaf Marina which is right on the property..

I don't work there, but drive by there every few days. I am not 100% positive as to the status of all of their rooms, but they look very much open and there is definitely live music in the tiki bar. The only sad part is that the Perky Bat Tower fell over. I know all of the hotels here are encouraging more guests!
