While this property was not what I’ve come to expect from the LaQuinta brand, it was priced appropriately (40% to 50% below competitors) for its shortcomings. The best things I can say about the place are that the employees were nice and the bed was comfortable. The room was pretty beat up and “surface” clean, but the dampness in the room (and frankly, my entire floor)was the worst part. Everything felt damp in there, the towels in the bathroom, the flooring, bedding. Shower temperature and pressure were barely adequate, but the shower and bathroom appeared clean, though extremely worn. Location is a bit isolated, it is on Highway 98 (Back Beach Rd) on the far eastern end of PCB, a few miles away from Pier Park.
For the price, it was acceptable; but if the going rate is the same as other LQs or competitors like Hampton, Fairfield, HI Express, I would easily choose to stay somewhere else.

The room did have everything we would need-2 made beds, plenty of towels and washcloths, microwave and fridge, soaps and such, and extra trash bags. One of our children became sick in the night and the front desk lady(and ladies) were super helpful and kind in getting us what we needed. The staff was great and the breakfast bar lady was friendly and helpful.

While the beds were made, one was missing a pillow, the sheets smelled strongly of fabric softener, and there were no comforters in the bed. The beds only had 2 thin sheets. There was no fire escape plan on the back of the door as there typically is supposed to be. The pool was filthy and had a layer of crud at the bottom of it. The bathroom was in the worst condition out of the rest of the room. The toilet tank leaked every time it was flushed. The shower curtain either wasn’t big enough or had damage to the curtain bar, because it wouldn’t stay closed on either end causing either cold air to come into the shower or water on the floor. We resorted to trying to tie one end to the handicap bar and letting the other end stay open. While the shower ran, there was a constant flow of water from the shower handle to behind the tub spout. This seems to have caused water damage to the wall and the floor. I’d hate to see what the ceiling and other walls beneath us looked. The floor was rusty around the bathroom door, and the wall was squishy with water damage.

There was a sign saying to excuse any renovations it was under at the front desk. However we didn’t see any signs of any type of renovations going on inside or out of the hotel.

All in all it was a great stay! We enjoyed the staff’s kindness, the breakfast offered, and the relative quietness. The bathroom definitely needs to be assessed and fixed and the pool should stay clean-only things keeping it from 5 stars.

Room #313, The bathtub was rusted through the caulking at the bottom and the ends. Looks very bad, There were no towel bars to hang the towels from. This location would save a bundle on laundry service, if the guests could use the towels more than once. How can they, when there is no where to hang the towels for additional uses.

We had a 3 night booking but only stayed one. Perhaps Room 206 was an anomaly as there were an inordinate amount of problems with the room and the hotel.

Upon entering, the floors looked fairly new but the linens looked old.

There was insulation glued to the top of the bathroom door making it impossible to shut it. The front desk was informed of this early in the afternoon of our arrival but it was not addressed while we were out for several hours.

There was a large area on the wall next to the tub that was crumbling and molded.. There was mold on the grout along the bath tub at the wall and floor and up the corner wall. as well as on the shower curtain. The soap shelf was held in place by screws (have never seen this anywhere). A second one was missing but the screw holes were still visible and not filled.

The tub seemed to have 3 different shades as if it was not properly refinished or an attempt of some type to have some decorative touch. The water controls were not secured to the wall and moved when used.

The toilet was old (3 gallons per flush) low seat and you had to hold the lever to get a full flush.

Towels were thin, of different types and one was either badly stained or dirty.

In the room itself, the lighting provided by 3 low watt CFL bulbs was dismal. All 3 lamps had corrosion in several places. All the shades had mold on them. One was ripped in places.

The collar surrounding the sprinkler was severely corroded.

The door handle to the adjoining room had lost all the paint on it and some paint on the door surrounding it was missing.

The side door to the hotel would not close allowing unfettered access to anyone at any time. This is a major security concern.

The breakfast was fairly meager (instant oatmeal, 4 cereals, tiny yogurt, small waffle machines, etc.) and all the furniture in the breakfast area had been removed forcing you to take any food back to the room to eat.

Extra towels were not available in the evening and needed to be procured at the front desk. They were not available by the time we left at 11:00 the next day.

At least they gave us no argument about cancelling the remainder of our booking and refunding the money.

This property does not in any way resemble what La Quinta is currently advertising.

We stayed at La Quinta because it was one of the few places that we could take our dog and the price we thought was reasonable. The room was reasonable, although in need of general maintenance, with rust build up around the bathroom door. That night however when we went to shower, we found the water tepid at best, cold was my wife's comment. We found the same thing in the morning - so this is not a timing issue. My wife complained to the manager with a promise something would be done, but alas that night again we faced cold showers.
For breakfast the eggs seemed to have come from a package, the coffee was weak and watery. There are waffles which you can make yourself, which my wife enjoyed.
The staff however are wonderful, everyone on the front desk is very helpful and great to work with.

Response from Mike-LaQuinta, General Manager at La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham PCB Pier Park Area
Responded 4 Jan 2020
Thank you, keithbW3220WB, for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. I want to apologize for the issues you and your wife had during your stay. I was the one who your wife spoke to about the hot water issue. She was very polite about the situation. (I can't say I would've been they same if the roles were reversed, as I need my showers hot) I wanted to thank her for that. After I spoke to her I had our maintenance manager address the issue. He thought he isolated the problem and corrected it. We didn't find out until the next day that the fix failed and the issue was back. Regardless, this should have never happened. I want to apologize for not correcting this issue for you. We did find out the issue resulted from a faulty valve, which has since been replaced. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our waffles and thank you for the kind words about our team. I will be sharing this with them. I hope you have safe travels.

The first day the water was off until 6pm. We arrived after we left the beach and needed to shower before dinner, but couldn't because there was no water. Both nights they were out of towels. We requested towels and were told they were out until the next day. The second night we asked for towels and received two hand towels and were again told there were no towels until the next day. The property was over flowing with trash. The ice room had an unknown number of trash bags over flowing the entire area was covered in trash. They were not cleaning rooms nor taking trash either night (because of the pandemic is what we were told) there was one person working the front desk which caused huge delays in our plans. There was a long wait at the front desk due to inadequate staffing. They were EXTREMELY under staffed having ONE person running the entire hotel at night front desk, laundry, check -ins, maintenance calls etc...for a sold out hotel! I paid over $600 for two nights and I'm extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with what we got. I did not receive what I paid for.

When I first arrived i was held at the front desk for about 45 minutes because when I booked the room on my phone using an CLC app. The app booked me for four rooms. The front desk attendant, didn’t want to cancel the three additional rooms, so I had to contact the CLC app spokesperson. They were able to cancel three rooms. I’m thinking the front desk woman wanted the CLC company to pay for all four rooms. The front desk attendant would just walk away from me without saying a word and just have me wondering what’s going on. After about 45 minutes at the front desk, I finally get a room, it now late in the evening. I goto the room assign to me room 211. At first glance the room seems to be ok, then I walk into the bathroom and the shower curtain has mold on the bottom, the floor towel has holes in it. I walk over the the bed and check under the sheets to see if the bed had bugs, no bugs but the mattress also had mold.. It was late in the evening I’m a truck driver and there was no other hotel near me that can accommodate a 26’ truck. I slept on top of the sheets fully clothed, I washed my face with my own Materials and left before morning sun.

We had reservations for 2 rooms at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Pier Park in Panama City Beach, Florida for April 29th thru May 2nd, 2021. Our trip was for a motorcycle rally and we were pulling a trailer with 2 motorcycles on it. We made the reservations on March 20, 2021. We had a very favorable room rate for the 2 rooms ($447.95 for each room). After traveling all day from our home in north Georgia we arrived at the hotel at 4pm central time (their check-in time). When we arrived at the counter to check in, we were informed that our reservations were cancelled by the hotel at 3pm because they could not contact us. Now let me state that this reservation was made by a major corporation’s travel agency. The hotel claimed there was no contact information on the reservation. This was a flat out lie! Our printed reservation had contact info on it and when we contacted the travel agency, they also confirmed that the info was provided to the hotel. The hotel front desk said the only thing they could do was offer us the current rate for our rooms. That rate was $900 per room, almost double our confirmed rate. We contacted the Wyndham Rewards people and the travel agency for help to no avail. The hotel refused to honor our reservation. The conclusion I have come to is that the hotel cancelled our reservation because they knew they could rent them out for substantially more money. We were very tired and ready to hit our rooms but there was no way we would be held hostage and cheated by this greedy hotel. We were able to find a townhome to rent for basically the same amount as our original reservation. I will never stay at a Wyndham property and specifically a La Quinta again.

We've stayed here twice and they have continued to upgrade their look since the last time we were here. It's a great place to stay with a large dog since there isn't a weight restriction. Also, they don't charge $150 pet deposit. We stayed the first time in 11/20 and it could have used some TLC, but it obviously didn't keep me from coming back. This time, we enjoyed that there was new flooring, the outside was being painted which updated it's look, and the price is always reasonable with a $20 pet fee. The reviews to this place doesn't match up to either one of my experiences. If you're looking for a place to stay that won't break the bank, you have a large dog, and you're okay with being in the Pier Park area - please consider giving them a shot! Happy Traveling!

This hotel has signs that due to COVID, housekeeping is limited. I think that they stop cleaning altogether throughout the pandemic. I paid for queen size beds and they gave us full sizes bed and when I inquired about it they said that is what they called queen size beds. If it wasn't for the fact that there are major sporting events this weekend, and nothing is available, I will have left. The place is absolutely dirty and smelly. To get a fresh towel you have to bring the dirty one to them at the front desk and they will give you a fresh one. How safe is that for the staff working here?. I do not recommend this place at all.

Answer from Steve A

Highway in front of hotel property is very busy -4 lanes .. few roads from Hwy 98/30A to front beach. Walk once a road is found from highway to front beach walk could be 6-8 blocks. Probably better to go by car more to the east where there are public parking areas and public walkways from front beach to the beach.. Most all hotel/motels do no like/want people walking across their property to get to the beach and can't park in their parking lots.
