I just got back from our stay at the Contemp and it was awesome, with some problems that didn't detract from our enjoyment.
The best thing about the Contemp is the short walk to Magic Kingdom. That makes the hotel feel so special and privileged! I can just pop in Magic Kingdom any time I wanted.
I requested an earlier room check in, and was sent my room number at 12pm, which is fantastic because 2 of my kids were sick. So we arrived at the room, and I let the kids rest in the hotel while I took off to MK for a quick hour, then got back and took my healthy kid to the pool. For other Disney hotels, it takes at least half hour just to reach Magic Kingdom. We got take out food from the food court as well as Steakhouse 71 and ate in the room (very nice with sick kids). Apparently, you have to stay at the Contemp to be allowed to order takeout from Steakhouse 71, so we enjoyed the privilege, though not the food (terrible, tastes like stuff I make, I will never eat there again.) The food court's food is far better, not to mention cheaper.
The room looks OK, probably the ugliest deluxe Disney hotel room there is with its Incredibles theming. I am OK with the Incredibles movie but don't feel that it needs to be slapped onto the Contemporary. It wasn't even that popular of a movie. It does provide a sofa that turns into a bed, which I appreciate. The old room decor looked far better and I loved it, but for some reason Disney decided to change it. The glowing closet door does look very good, I must admit. If I ever need to buy closet doors I'll be sure to get such glowing ones. Another thing that's neat is the indirect ceiling light, looks awesome.
What's really odd is that the two bed frames are joined together as a single piece. I can't imagine what the purpose is. As a result, when my kids move on their bed, it shakes my bed! I've never seen that before.
The shower looks very beautiful has very weak water pressure even though it is brand new from the remodeling.
The heater didn't work very well, so I was cold all night (46 out) and didn't sleep well enough.
At night, the toilet stopped working and won't flush. So I took the lid off and fixed it! Wow, I've never fixed a toilet before, and it was different from my home toilet, but I saw what the problem was, and I fixed it!
The hallway in the Garden Wing was narrow and bland, even after the Incredibles refurbishment, unlike other deluxe hotels such as Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is cheaper than the Contemp but has much fancier hallways. But you can't walk to a park from there!
We booked the Garden Wing, though the main building is nicer with better hallways. We were upgraded to there once, and we appreciated the upgrade, but I don't want to ever stay there again because I'm impatient, and the elevators there is a pain during busy hours. It took me 9 minutes to go from my room to the ground floor amidst large crowds of people all fighting for the elevator, many of them aren't hotel guests but merely eating at Chef Mickey's.
After dinner, I walked to the Grand Floridian and back during fireworks time, and it was such a beautiful and magical walk.
At 9 pm, we went to Magic Kingdom again and took advantage of the low crowds after fireworks. We didn't have to worry about getting back too late or the bus being too crowded! It was just amazing.

Just returned from a 6 night stay here with my husband and 2 small children. We stayed in the garden wing, first floor with a view of the gardens and waterway connection of Bay Lake to Seven Seas Lagoon.

The location of this hotel is superb - the Magic Kingdom is our favorite park so we loved the ease of walking to and from the park instead of dealing with the crowds. The monorail is great but to get to the MK you have to go to three other stops before getting to the park, it can be tedious.

The lobby is lackluster, compared to other Disney hotels but the rooms were comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. The pool area is nice, although I wish the little kid splash pad was better incorporated with the main pool. My daughter and I both loved the water slide! There is also a waterside pool which seemed to be more of an “adult, quiet pool”, although it isn’t labeled that way.

My only complaints - our room wasn’t cleaned or attempted to be cleaned until at least 4 pm everyday which we found frustrating. We would leave the room early for the parks and come back for rest time in the afternoon, back to a dirty room. Several times we asked housekeeping to come back at dinner with fresh towels and to make the beds which they happily did. I wish they would clean the rooms earlier, with your Magic Band, Disney knows where you are at all times, they could easily clean the rooms knowing we were in a park.
There was also a strong sewage scent the entire week we were there in the parking lot and walkway to the MK near the hotel, I assume it has something to do with the construction taking place but it was still gross to smell it daily. When you spend this much money, you really don’t want to be smelling sewage, hopefully this is temporary.
Overall, a great hotel, we can’t wait for our next Disney vacation!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort has always been a Guest favorite, thanks to its close proximity to Magic Kingdom Park – after all, there’s nothing better than staying right in the middle of the magic! While I’m delighted to learn you enjoyed the convenience and cozy atmosphere of this waterfront getaway, I do apologize for any challenges which hindered your overall experience. Please know, your honest feedback is extremely valuable, and I am happy to share your comments with the appropriate Leadership team. Additionally, it may interest you to know that you are welcome to request for Housekeeping to visit your Resort room earlier in the day. Simply stop by the Front Desk upon arrival, or give them a call from your in-room phone at a time of your convenience. I hope this information is helpful, and can’t wait to welcome you back for another pixie-dusted visit real soon! Kenzi Disney Social Reviews

We went in September for a four night stay. Originally booked the Garden Wing Deluxe Room and was lucky to be upgraded to a one-bedroom suite in the Garden Wing area. This was quite the shock and greatly appreciated.

The room was clean, there were extra towels placed in the bathroom and we felt completely safe as every cast member we saw had on masks and some had on face shields.

We were so happy with our vacation, we booked another trip to WDW and selected the Contemporary Hotel for our home away from home.

We dined or ordered food for take away at California Grill, The Wave, Chef Mickey's, Contempo Cafe, and The Sand Bar. We have ADR for California Grill and Chef Mickey's on our return trip as well. We will be excited to have Contemporary Grounds reopened. The extra K-cups in the room hit the spot, but we did miss Contemporary Grounds.

At all times we felt safe as people were social distanced and wore masks. If not, the cast members made sure people were aware of it.

Well worth staying at the Contemporary for the location to MK, the dining options, the Monorail, the comfort of the room and the dedicated cast members .

I am thrilled to read that your visit was an enjoyable one and even more thrilled to know we will be welcoming you home again soon! Being a return visitor of a Resort is such a lovely feeling since you already know the layout and all the best spots to dine. It is wonderful that the take-away options worked out well for your party, I imagine in your lovely 1-Bedroom Suite it was a perfect setup for enjoying a meal. The Garden Wing of Disney's Contemporary Resort is one of my favorite places to stay on all of property. I enjoy the quiet feel and if you are on the water it is nice to open up the door and feel the breeze. On behalf of all of our Cast Members, we look forward to your upcoming visit and hope to see you bright and early at Contemporary Grounds caffeinating for a fun-filled day! We took advantage of the current hotel discounts to stay at The Contemporary. Usually the room rates would be out of my budget, but with the parks closing between 5 to 7 PM each evening, I knew we would want a nice home base with dining and activities. Our stay was just one evening. We checked in through the Disney mobile app, so there was no front desk experience for us. We got a text when the room was ready and headed on down the hall to it.

The room was clean, but we wiped it down with Clorox wipes as an extra precautionary measure. While there was no balcony, we did have a nice view of both the monorail and the top of the Cinderella's Castle.

The pool and hot tub were open, but a little chilly with the wind that night, and outdoor evening movies were still happening. Coming out of dinner, we caught the tail end of the fireworks show on the outdoor movie screen. A strange thing to watch knowing the castle is all quiet behind you.

Speaking of dinner - For our entertainment after the parks closed, I hade made us a reservation at the California Grill. This is one of my favorite restaurants on top of the Contemporary Hotel and we were lucky enough to eat during the sunset. One of the advantages of this restaurant is the walk out balconies where you can see different areas of Walt Disney World and Orlando.

While the California Grill falls under the $$$$ category, there are plenty of items to be shared off the menu. Our waiter was wonderful and made sure to help us draw the meal out knowing we had nowhere else to be that evening.

With limited capacity we had hardly any waits at the hotel. We ate at the counter service area for breakfast the next morning and ordered in our rooms via the mobile app. It was a quick walk to restaurant and our food was ready!

There was also no lines for the monorail, and we did not have to share our compartment with any other guests as we made our way to the Magic Kingdom.

While I was reading your review I truly felt like I was relaxing on vacation right alongside you. What a glowing account of what seems to have been a truly magical stay with us at Disney's Contemporary Resort. It certainly seems like you took advantage of your time and made a point to enjoy some of the greatest aspects of this amazing hotel. California Grill is one of the best restaurants in all of Walt Disney World. Not only do they serve incredible food, but the views of the area from so high in the sky simply cannot be beaten. Thank you so much for sharing these details about your pixie-dusted time with us. We can't wait to welcome you back again real soon! Jody Disney Social Reviews

My family recently stayed at the Garden wing of the Disney Contemporary Resort. It was great to be on the Monorail and near Magic Kingdom since we have 5 year old twins. The rooms were very comfortable and the resort was able to put my in-laws in a connecting room.
The garden wing was cheaper ( 450 vs 600) then the tower and the price we paid was about a 7 -10 minute walk to dining, shopping and transportation. Also the garden wing is only 2 stories tall.

I liked the rooms and the beds were very comfortable but I did not like the sinks in the bathroom which were large square and shallow so there was almost no counter space for toiletries and handwashing my sons jacket that accidentally got dipped in a toilet was very difficult.
There was a laundry room and I was able to wash a load for 3$ but forgot to wash the jacket at the time! When washing pick the “green” cycles if you want cold water. I didn’t understand this and was stuck with a warm water wash.

Staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel sounds like an amazing way to spend time with family! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Choosing a property connected by Monorail is incredibly helpful for families with young children, just like yours. It's an efficient way to move between the Resorts and Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot, making it easy on Mom and Dad and fun for the kids! Despite some of the difficulty you had with your laundry, but I'm glad that your overall visit was great. We can't wait to see you all again! Ella Disney Social Reviews

I studied for months/weeks ahead of our visit to WDW, and I was a little hesitant about choosing a stay in the Garden Wing while the Main Tower was under renovation. Even with Disney’s magic aside, we had a great stay, and we’d return to this resort tomorrow! A few things:

1) COVID precautions were in place and enforced (masks inside including dining and lobbies), but the staff was pleasant regarding masks, questions etc. and we felt safe. Housekeeping came every other day, but we could leave trash cans in the hall and ask for any items we needed during our week stay (towels, cosmetics) if we were between cleaning days. Our room was spotless on arrival, and the remote was wrapped in plastic, and overall very clean.

2) Disney had our room ready 2 hours before check-in, and the front desk assisted with our groceries and luggage to our room while we returned from the park. Everything arrived timely and with a smile.

3) The Garden Wing is especially convenient for pool lovers, as we were less than 30 seconds to the pool. We had a 2-year old who loved swimming almost as much as park time, and it was nice to be able to get from the park to the room to the pool in a matter of minutes. I recommend requesting a first floor room which has a patio, and it’s nice in the morning for coffee and watching the ducks and bunnies! Garden Wing rooms are also very quiet, and it’s a peaceful setting amidst a very busy resort.

4) The walkway to MK from the main tower is a game changer. It is truly worth every penny to be that close to the park. No monorail or bus required at the end of a long park day. We loved using it in the mornings on the way to the park to sip our coffee from Contemporary Grounds, too.

5) We had a snack or meal at every restaurant on property, and we had stellar service and food at each one. I highly recommend the Wave to go for breakfast. Underrated food! Chef Mickey’s is excellent as well - especially family style. California Grill had spectacular views after our meal which was incredible as well.

My only negative was that the rooms appeared slightly worn in some spots. The furniture had signs of wear, but none of it was in disrepair. The rooms could use a refresh, but ultimately, we absolutely loved our stay, and we’d recommend this resort to anyone who values location, spacious rooms, great dining options, and excellent Disney service!

This review is late in arriving, but certainly comes with a high recommendation. My wife and I visited the Contemporary for a 10 day stay in September 2019 right in the midst of Dorian's approach to the Florida coast. This was our second stay at the Contemporary in as many years, but our first trip without our daughter along. We had taken this trip to mark our 15th wedding anniversary.

For reference, we have previously made multiple stays on Disney properties such as Pop Century and Art of Animation. But after experiencing Contemporary in 2018 with my whole family, the Wife and I are very much Contemporary fans for life. Rooms are well appointed, staff are courteous and go above and beyond to make you comfortable, and the atmosphere is quintessentially "magical" (if not in the overtly fantastic imagery of a typical resort, certainly in this "contemporary" fasion).

But what you are truly paying for here, and what cannot be replicated at any other resort, is location. Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary all offer quick access to the Monorail system and travel center. And you can opt for rooms at each that will provide exceptional views of the fireworks each night. But only Contemporary allows for all of the above PLUS the ability to easily walk to and from Magic Kingdom during the day without waiting on any other transportation. From our perspective, it's tough to overstate the value of being able to walk back after a long day of Disney-ing and relax on the balcony while watching the fireworks, completely avoiding the wait and the crowds involved during the late nights.

From a dining perspective, there are several options available, but our favorite has always been Chef Mickey's. Even without the family in tow, we loved the quality and variety of the buffet breakfast. The quick serve options are not as robust as some of the value resorts, but there are plenty of convenience options that also help. But more often than not, we were taking a quick ride on the Monorail over to Epcot for dinner, or hopping on a Minnie Van to Disney Springs to hit up the Boathouse or Raglan Road.

With Dorian Florida bound during the bulk of our stay, the staff also did an incredible job of keeping us informed of any changes to schedules and services. During the day that park hours were impacted, the Contemporary offered dinner services at a reduced price.

I just booked another 10 day stay at Contemporary for October this morning to celebrate my 40th. We considered a couple of other resorts, just in case we wanted to experience something different, but ultimately decided to come back again because we were so satisfied with our previous stays. This is definitely my favorite Disney resort.

Room was clean. Check in process was easy with the app. Everyone working there was very professional, friendly and helpful. Always saw someone cleaning high touch areas and wearing masks. It would have been nice if there was more information of when pools opened, how housekeeping worked and bus schedules since you do not check in at the front desk. Housekeeping only comes in every other day and they do not come in your room. You have to hand them your garbage and dirty towels and they provide you with new ones. I do not mind, but garbage does accumulate a lot as you have to do a lot of take out. Also, I am not sure why housekeeping came in one day for an "inspection". She just came in and looked in the bathroom for a second and left. Weird. Pools were nice and the lifeguards were always on alert and took their jobs very seriously, which I very much appreciate. The Wave and Contempo Cafe did not really have much good food. Didn't try California Grill, but we did do Chef Mickey's. Chef Mickey's was very fun, but the food is the same food at Contempo Cafe lol, but it was worth it to see my 5 yr old see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy dance. Monorail does not travel to Epcot at this time, so that was a big bummer. Parks also close much earlier. Wished prices were a little less with so many things missing from the Disney experience, but other than that, we had a great time and the Contemporary was a great resort. I probably will not stay there again, just because I am not a fan of the theme. I usually always stay at the Polynesian, but it is being refurbished.

We Loved this resort. It was Disney prices, but we felt you got great services like close walking distance to Magic Kingdom, monorail, compact hotel (not every thing so spread out in different buildings). Housekeeping even spread out my daughter's Frozen blanket and had her dolls peeking out over the top. Everyone was courteous and very friendly. The room was updated and very clean. I loved the makeup mirror and our view of the castle. They delivered our package to our room so we didn't have to carry it up. Our stay was magical.

Just completed a four night stay, they take COVID precautions very seriously, there’s always someone cleaning something.
Elevator lines can be long sometimes especially when the parks close and everybody returns. But there’s always cast members assisting in the process. Stairs are not an option to use.
Life guards are always aware and there are plenty on duty when the pool is open (10am-10pm).
Our room was quiet and we were on the 4th floor in the main tower right above Chef Mickey’s. Not sure why other reviews said it loud in these rooms. That was not our experience.
Laura the server on the pool deck was great! She helped us out quite a bit during our “off/resort” day. Always ready to assist in whatever we requested.
The room was clean but I did fine the lack of Disney “theme” to be underwhelming (as in practically nonexistent). I knew going in that these rooms are not appointed like that of the other resorts, but honestly if you showed me pictures of a Contemporary room and one at a Hampton Inn, there would be very little difference in the quality or looks.
Would probably try a different resort on our next trip. While convenient for travel to the Magic Kingdom, the cost difference just didn’t seem worth it.

when we were there a couple of months ago no - they were still working on it. also the pool had very limited hours - think it only opened at 10 or 11. also no service from the snack stand. really was disappointed. for a family pool was not family friendly. also g-daughter was not allowed to go down slide with her dad - she is 2.5 yrs. every other resort we go to - no problem. mickey has no sense of humor anymore.
