Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

They still do. I stayed here four years ago and was impressed that an older facility would be as clean as it was. So I stayed here again to meet friends for New Years Eve. Room was very clean, well appointed, small TV, great internet and very clean bath and bed linens. A bit confusing late at night as you have to enter through the front lobby but that is my only complaint. Interesting breakfast idea. For a very low price you get a full breakfast instead of a typical hotel free breakfast. Great staff. Finally, I checked with Hampton Inn ($99), Holiday Inn Express ($92) so this was a good $40 night savings.

On a good note, this is the first hotel that has ever had non gritty floors without carpet. I hate hard floors because they are always dirty and gritty, but this one wasn't. It appeared clean, but when brushing my teeth, it was really gross because the sink smelled just like dirty dog. Then I needed a tissue and it too smelled just like dirty dog. Also, if you don't like dogs, this is not the place for you. While I was bringing my suitcase to my room, a little dog ran up to me. An owner followed and took it off but then I looked up and saw there were a couple more dogs inside the pool area just running around. No leashes. The room served it's purpose. The shower had good water pressure.

Room was clean had all ammenities, checked linen all clean, could smell were washed, flooring solid not carpet which was good. Both ladies at counter in lobby were friendly and helpful. I deducted 1 star only because apparently they don't automatically clean your room on multiday stay unless you ask for it, i dont think i should have to ask.

Having just returned from a two week family road trip in which we stayed in hotels 14 of the 15 nights, this was the worst stay we experienced. Most stays were with hotels within this brand, so I'm not trying to compare a Hilton with a Quality Inn. It was also the most expensive stay we had, which is why it was disappointing to see another guest exchange cash and receive no receipt for a room while I was at the front desk signing for my prepaid room that cost $100 more than the cash exchange. The front desk manager seemed to know the guy, so I let it go without incident, but it was just the start of a dodgy stay. We chose the "resort" because my son wanted to swim and some of our hotels had closed their pools. We went to swim, but we felt unsafe at the pool area. There were groups of men openly drinking from bottles of alcohol (I saw Jack Daniels and Evan Williams clearly). Cans of Busch beer were scattered in their area despite the signs that indicated "no outside food or beverage could be brought in - only that which was ordered from the bar." It was clearly an acceptable practice since an employee of the hotel (to his credit, he was emptying trash cans) held open the bag to collect their empties. There were other men drinking beer from their cooler in front of the snack bar window. Another guy with a girlfriend (who looked uncomfortably young for him) smoked marijuana between dips in the pool giving the area a skunky smell to mix with the cigarette smoke coming from most of the other guests. Most disturbing were the two shirtless men who took turns sitting in the pool area with a small backpack. One would come get the backpack and then bring it back. Later they would switch and the other would take the backpack. Sure, this is speculative, but it was very obvious that drugs were being sold from the backpack. Another family with a small child joined us in the pool and waded over to ask us if "we knew the hotel was going to be like this." The fountain featured in the cover photo does not run. The room featured unsafe electrical outlets and a big strip from the door that was broken and left a gap to the outside. The AC ran the entire time we were there, but there was some sort of heat bubble that existed if you stood up. My wife and I kept checking to see if there was a separate heater turned on somewhere. None of us could even sleep under the sheet as it was just too hot. (Yes, it was a hot day, but a rainstorm cooled temps outside significantly - and thankfully chased some of the outside "activity" away.) The furniture was worn and the carpet was dirty despite the claims on the hotel description that it was recently renovated. At night, cars idled in the parking lot, and there were lots of honks to have people come down from their rooms. We contemplated leaving in the middle of the night, but we had plans in the morning we would have missed. I've included pictures as well as my documentation of my stay since I know I sometimes question a truly negative review like this. (not sure why my photos are posting upside down?!)

Checked in and went to my room. Couldn’t get in because the lady next to us was having a beer and a smoke and yelling at her child while standing in front of our door. Finally asked her to move. Went in and Someone had apparently vomited on the bed and the hotel changed only the bedding. Bed skirt and carpet had been just wiped up. The smell was awful. Quickly got on the phone with the front desk and it was like they were expecting my call and gave us a new room. It was a little better and only tolerable because the area was sold out over Christmas. We had to put a renuzit in front of the air conditioner to smother the Oder. The people next to us had pulled their chairs out on the deck and was chain smoking so we rolled a towel up and blocked the bottom of the door opening. Seriously the place looked like a haven for the evicted. Ash trays sitting on ac units, burn marks everywhere and beer cans thrown about. Woke up one morning to a half smoked cigar on my ac unit. Anyway, only one of the outlets worked, stains on the bedding, crud on the walls, filthy beyond imagine, and so loud with people yelling and stomping. I had to call the desk one night from several big dogs violently barking and howling. As I said we would’ve left but everything was sold out. I even contacted Choice Hotels to complain but they couldn’t help immediately. There is much more I could say but feel you would start to think I’m making it up so I’ll stop there. I will however post a few pictures for your benefit. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

First of all the employees act like you owe them something, not very friendly and helpful. Room was dirty and nasty due to they clean every 3rd day as I was told by front staff. Asked for more towels said they had a towel shortage. The pool was filled with a bunch of kids unsupervised just a nightmare. The restaurant was very short staff had a 6 year old cleaning the tables on our first day there. The pool table in the bar is from the 70's and not taking care of. Oh don't let me forget the Drug Dealing going on in the side parking lot. Do yourself a Huge Favor ... Don't Stay There Go Elsewhere. This place is a Total Dump.

We booked a handicapped room for my sister. When we checked in there was not one available. The next day we moved her into the handicap room so that she could have an accessible shower. She went to take a shower with the aid of my sister and as soon as she sat on the handicapped seat in the shower that was attached to the wall it broke from the wall and she fell onto the floor. We spent the next several hours in the hospital. Thankfully at this point it is just bruising.

I would not use this hotel if you are disabled as they do not have great safety standards and are uncaring after an incident occurs as we have not as yet heard from anyone.

I had a reservation to check in on March 30th and check out April 4th, had the reservation booked for a suite FOR TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE. I checked in and went to the room only to find it was not the room I booked. Went back to the front desk and told them they gave me the wrong room type- 2 queen room and not a suite. Sandy at the front desk said that room was sold out and Choice Hotels makes the reservations even when the room isn't available. I call bullcrap on that but even IF the room was sold out, someone had to manually change my room type in the computer and they didn't even bother to contact me and let me know. If you are going to change someone's room type the front desk or management needs to contact the guest to give them a heads up. I WILL NOT ever stay at this hotel again. Go to Tarpon Springs instead, its a much better location anyways.

My husband and I have stayed here several times as we have family living in New Port Richey. This last visit was the absolute worse. Though the rooms were remodeled and seemed clean, there were roaches everywhere. We planned on staying 3 nights but only stayed one. The only reason we stayed the first night is because we saw only 2 bugs and didn't think much of it. We then asked if they could spray our room only to find the next night there were about 10 running around the whole room, not just the bathroom. They told me at the front desk that is was probably because they sprayed and they came out of the walls to breathe. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! They gave us another room and brought us the keys only for us to find more live ones in the next room. We had my daughter drop us off that night because we were out late and left our vehicle at her house. She had to come back to pick us up and it was too late to even find another hotel. We stayed the remainder of the trip at her house sleeping on the couch. Not the way we wanted to spend our vacation as her house is not equipped for 2 more people along with their family of 5. This hotel was our first choice out of many in the area but we'll never be back. They told us at the front desk that they would have someone from corporate call us regarding our first night stay but never received a call. As mentioned, the first night wasn't bad but just knowing there are more roaches in the walls, is very unnerving. Take note!

We got there late at night or we would not have stayed. The room stunk. Floors were wet/oily and made our feet black. The bathroom door would not shut. Some guests, at the bottom of the stairs we had to climb, wet outside drinking from a blotter and smoking. I was a dad to leave my car parked there but there was no other place to park. Shower barely spit out enough water to get wet. The back of the tub was still black from my feet. Did not feel clean or safe there.

Do they have shampoo and conditioner?
Answer from Janet D
If you're staying for 2 - 3 nights, you might want to bring your own shampoo and conditioner because they have little bottles of them, but they don't smell great. So, I went to Dollar Tree down the road to the right and bought some because we were staying 4 nights.

In my case the hotel manager posted that they had the health department in to inspect the room. Well, first of all the health department was there at my request, not theirs, and secondly it was many days later. I certainly hope they'd cleaned up the room by then. And yet the hq can only promise to rectify the situation and then say there is nothing they can do. Well, they're pretty good at losing long-term customers, so there is that.

Yes, all rooms have coffee makers and we have coffee available in the lobby 24 hours a day.
