We created The Perfect Valentine's Day night, away from the maddening crowds...at the Cottage B&B restaurant, in Monticello, Fla -- a comfy 20-30 minute ride from Tallahassee...Three couples of friends left the driving to our favorite limousine service.......two glasses of good champagne during the drive brought us to the unrivaled hospitality of Martha and Jean-Michel Cravanzola, at The Cottage. As first-timers visiting their wonderful home, business, restaurant, we were delighted with the great surprise that awaited.
What a refreshing pleasure and contrast it was to come and visit there -- and avoid the holiday crowds of over-booked turn-the-tables-quickly Tallahassee restaurants. It was such a lovely and relaxing evening…….beautiful setting……terrific service and special attention…..gourmet-level customized meal…..fine spirits……..awesome dessert……and, we were just so happily wowed.

Martha spent time on the phone with us days in advance of our visit to help guide us to a perfect, special menu customized just for us.......Amazing shrimp cocktail with a most flavorful butter-tangerine drizzle........soft, melt-in-your mouth large-portion top-line steaks with incredibly flavorful french-recipe topping........the best sweet potatoes in the world (infused with Gran Marnier)....great wines......and a dessert of homemade decadent chocolate cake, with an overpour of brandy...
We know that we'll always remember our 'first time' --- but it will be just that…..only the first time. We expect to be back -- regularly…….Thanks to Martha and Jean-Michel for our new friendship and their wonderful treatment of us all for a unique and memorable Valentine's Day….

For friends who love good food, spirits, service and great hosts, do yourself a favor -- and call them.....and leave the details to them for planning a most memorable night to remember...Any visit to The Cottage will become a most special occasion thanks to Martha & Jean-Michel.

We stayed here for one night in mid April after doing a Trip Advisor search and Google. I am so glad we picked this place and not one of the other local B 'n B's.

Upon walking into their Venetian courtyard, we knew this place was different and special. The care that went into the design and decor was very apparent. Even the bathrooms reflected the attention to detail. Several times we nearly forgot that we were in Florida!

At check-in, we had our pick of the two beautifully appointed rooms and were very happy with our decision. The suite was spacious, clean and welcoming. We liked seeing the mini-fridge with snacks and sodas.

The proprietors are wonderful people, warm and accommodating but not phony in any way. Jean-Michel helped us practice our French and fixed a fantastic omelette for breakfast. He and Martha were both very attentive, filling coffee cups and removing dishes as needed, offering more of everything.

If you are ever traveling through North Florida, this place is worth going out of your way for. We are trying to come up with excuses to go back down to Monticello just so we can stay here again. We did not want to leave!

From the moment you walk up to the Cottage B&B you get a feeling that this is a home that is truly loved. They have done an amazing job of turning a simple little cottage into an amazing experience. From the walls around the courtyard, to the details in the interior decorating, the artistic flare that Martha and Jean have put into their home is nothing short of amazing. The brilliance of these creative touches are only matched by the warmth of their hospitality. My wife and I could not have felt more relaxed and at home if we were staying with family. From our amazing room, to the local restaurant they recommended, to a five star breakfast the next morning with wonderful company, everything was well beyond our expectations. We will definitely stay here again.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience.

Based on the reviews I had seen on this and other websites, my husband and I were looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Debra decided to make her presence during the same time so we called the property a few days before our scheduled reservation to see if they were going to be open and available. We left a message for the owners to return our call but heard nothing. We also had Hotels.com leave a message (the Governor of FL had called a statewide emergency and the area was also under evacuation) but had no response. Needless to say, we did not stay at the property and subsequently, the owners refused to return our payment. One would think a statewide emergency and several attempts to contact them without a return call would justify a refund. My husband and I often stay at Bed and Breakfasts and their property may be lovely, but I would never recommend working with these owners.

Response from mjmbandb, Owner at The Cottage B & B
Responded 31 Jul 2012
Readers please note: the above review is inaccurate. Though these persons may have called, we never got a message from them OR Hotels.com. What they don't say is that they CANCELLED their reservation 5 days prior to the date of arrival, knowing that this would result in a loss of their funds, as is made clear when one reserves the room. Two weeks or more AFTER this, they were able to get us by phone quite easily. E-mail would have worked, too, but they apparently did not try that. There was no evacuation order for our area, and by their reserved arrival date, any weather emergency had been over for 2 days. It took us time to respond to their rather unkind refund requests, as we're a VERY small business and do everything ourselves but we offered, though it is against our policy and though they were not entitled under the rules to any refund, to allow them another night in place of the one they cancelled. This is two for the price of one, which is why it's against our policy; yet we got no response, and indeed, found out they had already placed this bad review before we had a chance to make this offer. Reviews are wonderful tools, but use caution. If all the other reviews are good and one is terrible, that one bad one may have little to do the the property itself.

Victorian fully restored home. What a wonderful find! Beautifully restored with attention to detail, decorated with original, art oil paintings (available for purchase), like stepping back into a Victorian home or into a beautiful museum, restored wood floors, high ceilings, gold gilding. The best steak dinner we have ever had! We stayed the night room was clean and quaint with antique claw bathtub. For breakfast fresh Croissiants, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The inn keepers are hospitable and make you feel right at home. A true Frenchman runs this inn with his beautiful wife. Many celebrities and famous people have stayed here. It has been written up in magazines (articles we read) It was a quiet, beautiful and peaceful getaway like visiting France without having to leave the United States.

My wife and I had never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before----and The Cottage exceeded our expectations. Martha and Jean Michelle are the perfect hosts. Do not, repeat do not, pass up dinner. Martha cooked up a salmon dish that was delicious with coconut rice. The decor is remarkable. Breakfast was crepes. Also I had made a mistake in making our reservation and Martha was very understanding and allowed us to change nights, If you are in the panhandle don't I highly recommend this B & B. We are staying again in August.

This was my first experience at a Bed & Breakfast and I must say me and my husband loved it. We stayed July 13 2013 to celebrate our 9th Anniversary and could not have been happier. Martha and John Michelle were welcoming from the moment we made the reservations.

We truly wanted to sample the dinner from this location but do to my own lack of scheduling we were not able to. After we returned from our dinner though there was yummy cookies waiting for us with the aroma filling the house. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. Food was great and the owners were pleasant conversationalist.

All though you can tell that they are constantly doing up keep to the house the atmosphere was superb. The landscaping was so nice I really wanted to just spend the whole day sitting and talking but unfortunately we had to come back to the real world.

Thank you for such a great first time experience and we will be returning and recommending you to all my friends.

We have stayed at this charming home several times. The hosts go out of their way to make one comfortable and meet all needs. I have food allergies which were accommodated at breakfast with special gluten and dairy free waffles and almond milk. Fresh fruit, eggs, cereal, and other offerings are available for breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and roomy, equipped with a refrigerator and television with DVD player, and wifi is available. This quiet respite is in a charming town where one may enjoy antique shops and quaint cafes.

Because my husband and I were going to be in the area at fly fishing school, our children decided to present us with an evening out at The Cottage for our 25th anniversary. The dinner was not only delicious, but one of a kind, designed uniquely for us. The owners, Martha and Jean Michel, were perfect hosts who made us feel very special. From the carefully selected wine to the china and crystal tableware, we wouldn't have changed a thing. The dining room was cozy and the ambiance romantic. Martha was very kind and patient with our young daughters who called to make the arrangements. If we have the opportunity to travel to this area again, we will certainly try to stay at this lovely bed and breakfast.

We spent two nights in this lovely house in a very pretty northern Florida town. The place has been redesigned from basic cottage to something closer to a French country inn, not surprising given that the husband of the husband and wife managers comes from Paris. We had one dinner here, which was marvelous, and two breakfasts. Unlike many B&Bs the Cottage does not overwhelm you with food but what they serve is first rate. The rooms have all the conveniences one wants, including wi-fi, TV, modern bathroom etc. We brought our dog, but luckily the manager recommended a very nice pet facility right down the road.We would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone.
