Captain Pip's Marina & Hideaway has garnered affection for its charming atmosphere, with beautifully renovated rooms that offer cozy beds and quaint kitchenettes, according to guests. While the hotel's cleanliness and friendly staff frequently receive commendations, some travelers suggest the rooms, despite being well-maintained, could benefit from better soundproofing and more inclusive basic amenities.
Though opinions are mixed regarding value, the hotel's prime location near local attractions and marine life is a highlight for many. However, the additional costs for essentials like ice have not gone unnoticed.

Detailed Reviews
We enjoyed our stay in this property as it felt very individual and “old Floridian”. The room was spotless but the carpet needs replacing as it is well worn and stained in parts. Another issue was behind a curtain was a door covered in foam to the next room which was presumably for soundproofing which didn’t work as we could hear people speaking quite clearly. We caught a bus to Key West which stops right by the hotel ( it stops at any bus stop). This is a brilliant way to visit other Keys and so cheap, $1.00 for over 60s and $8.00 return for normal fare. The snorkelling trip which is booked just behind the reception was amazing and well worth doing. We ate at Porky’s next door and the food was amazing. The check in/ out was lacking in enthusiasm and not overly friendly but despite this we would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I were a bit leery of travel during COVID but the receptionist on the phone assured us that our room would be fully sanitized before we ever entered the room. I believe her because our room smelled cleaner than most of the operating rooms I work in on a daily basis. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. Decorations were tasteful and tranquil. The bed was perfectly comfortable. The room came with all the little extras a traveler needs. I have the feeling that the friendly/helpful staff are quite proud of Pip's and I want them to know they should be. The price was very reasonable and I am sure we will be long term customers.

We had friends going down to Marathon for a few days and we needed a break so we flew down to meet up with them. We couldn't find one room available for our full stay so we split our stay in 2 different rooms. (First we stayed in a guest room, then an apartment) The guest room was fully renovated but the apartment did not appear to be totally renovated. We loved both rooms, but we also own a middle 1800's home, so we appreciate the historical charm.
I was pleased to see that the rooms had a hand sanitizer dispenser at the door. The kitchen had a dish soap dispenser, the bathrooms had a hand soap dispenser, the shower had soap and shampoo dispensers. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with - although we did not spend much time in the kitchen because the on premise restaurant had awesome food (and great dessert). The linens were plenty and I loved the pillows so much, I took a picture of the label and when I got home I ordered some for myself. They are so comfortable.
We took a day trip to Key West. We planned to rent a boat but we ran out of time.
The staff was very friendly.
Every evening we would return to Capt Pips and gather around one of the many outside tables and watch the boats.
It was the break we needed from our hectic lives.

My husband and I recently spent 5 nights in the Mako room while on vacation in the Keys. This is an older, retro 1950’s motel that has been converted into some regular motel rooms and some apartment style rooms. From what I read in a binder full of info in my room, there are some staff members that live in the buildings too. There are several different buildings on the property. The building we stayed in contained 4 different rental rooms. Our room had 2 double beds, a small table with 2 chairs, a dresser, a flat screen TV mounted above the dresser, a small refrigerator with separate freezer, microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, dishes for 4 and some silverware. You’ll have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink because there is no actual kitchen. There is an igloo cooler in the closet that’s for guest use. This guest room is on the 2nd floor so if you have a problem climbing stairs, this is not the room for you. The bathroom has a huge tiled shower and body wash and shampoo were in dispensers in the shower. The bath towels, hand towels and wash clothes were plentiful and the staff will change these out on Monday and Thursday if you’re there an entire week. (Bed linens are changed on Thursday only). There is a nice pool with lounge chairs, free kayak and bike use for guests.
I want to give a big thank you to the staff for working with me after I received info about flight changes. My husband and I found out that the airlines changed our flights which were booked originally to leave on Saturday from FLL. I spoke with the girls in the office ( I want to say Lena was the person I primarily spoke with) and we were allowed to check out on Thursday instead of Saturday. Even though we booked through Booking.com, I was able to get a refund for the 2 nights we would not be staying. That’s real customer service!!! If I have the opportunity to return to Marathon again, I would definitely stay at Captain Pip’s again!

+1
Stayed 2 nights in the jellyfish room Very serious about covid restrictions upon check in,They check your temperature , there is sanitizer gel in the office as well as on the wall in the rooms. Our room was super clean and had what we needed for a 2 night stay. Comfortable king size bed, and new pull out couch was comfortable too. Bedroom had room darkening curtains, which is a plus. 2 airconditioning units, one in bedroom, one in kitchen/living room area They worked well.A few pool towels as well as a big cooler if you needed one. Bathroom has body wash, soap and shampoo dispensers.even a nightlight !A few hammocks on propertyand seating areas. Peaceful for sunsets and a great small pool which was refreshing, not like bath water. They ALSO have paddleboards and kayaks which i enjoyed.
We rented a boat on sight and had a great day fishing ! They sanitized the boat before we boarded it, which was a huge concern for me and made me feel comfortable .Boat ran great, was super clean and the price was right!
Cant wait to return and make more wonderful memories.

The place looked cute but.......
1. When I first checked in, the staff was not very friendly. I had a couple of questions and they felt annoyed.
2. The room was nice but the stairs very steep, especially coming up and down with a suitcase was tough.
4. The room could use some updating, there was paint that didn't match, the fridge was very loud, the balcony not really a balcony. It was the staircase coming up not a sit down balcony as I expected.
3. Please do not advertise that you have internet if you don't have it. I had to leave the property to use internet. Even at 1 AM, when I tried to rebook my flight, it didn't work. I was told it has to do with so many people using it, but I don't think that was the case at 1 AM. And I was told it is because it is on an island, but when I was at the beach, the internet was better than inside my room.
4. Two TSA workers at FT Lauderdale's airport have the corona virus, the major had an emergency press conference and that is when I had to decide to cut my vacation short. I did not want to do that but felt I had to. I was afraid that the airport would be closed down soon. The resort does not offer any kind of refund or empathy for the corona situation. I saw that the rooms are now even discounted, but they would not even apply that discount. They charged me $10 per day for resort fees but I left a day early, they still took the resort fee.
I had to cancel the other 2 hotel nights in another hotel in Islamorada. The owner there was very empathetic and refunded the entire amount, even though their policy is the same as Captain Pip's. Plus they are even a smaller family business.
5. When I asked for a discount or refund for early check out, the staff was unfriendly and not understanding at all. I did NOT want to cut my vacation short, really did not have much of a choice.
6. I am planning to go back to Marathon next year to finish my visit and will not stay there again.

We stayed 4 days and 3 nights July of 2020. Room is very comfortable and clean; perfect for my husband and I and teenaged daughter. You get what you pay for, so good budget stay with activities and good restaurant right next door. Nice salt water pool. We took Spirit Snorkeling out the Sombrero Reef for a morning of snorkeling and had a great time. Enjoyed the pool as there is no water access from this location and nearby Sombrero Beach was pretty but stinking with a distinct sulfur smell. We ate twice at Porky's which is within easy walking distance and the food was great and staff friendly. Tried to use kayaks but got turned away twice then told not enough single kayaks available for out party or three. Would like to have used bicycles to cycle in the afternoons, but was told they had to be returned by 4:30 pm, so not available to ride in the during the cooler temps of the evenings. Can rent jetskis at vendor next door, but the Sunday afternoon/evening we wanted to to that, were discouraged not to due to an abundance of sea grass in the water? Good budget rental but general area is rather seedy. If you're there just for the boat rentals and fishing, then really excellent accommodation. If you're going for family fun and pretty views of the water, seek elsewhere.

Originally I tried to get a room in the sister building they have over by the Sunset Grill was very fortunate to wind up in sailfish small efficiency very comfortable chilled, cooler, towels, ice the bed just the whole package couldn't have been any nicer. I was there for 10 days same unit and when it came time to leave I had to make myself. I don't believe I could have enjoyed myself any more than I did.
The pool I would give 10 stars . I did have one issue :-) the trash cans outside of the units I think we could come up with a better plan than that it made it very hard to sit outside and enjoy something to eat I could sit out there without food but if I had any food it was a problem because of the flies. I still give the resort 5 stars again thank you to all the staff who made my stay a pleasure especially my house keeper she was a breath of fresh air every morning always smiling!! Look forward to stay with you again sooner than later thanks.

I booked the treetop apartment with a few friends as we were staying in town for a wedding. It was one of the more affordable accommodations in Marathon that looked decent. The apartment had a Key-sy vibe and had enough room for 4 people. The Murphy bed mattress which I got was super comfy and I slept like a log. The bathroom was a bit small but the shower was spacious and looked newly tiled. Although you can only have one vehicle with each reservation, there was plenty of parking by the front office which is free for guests to use. The kitchen was stocked with all utensils you’d need and they also give you a cooler and towels which is a nice perk. Overall, it was a convenient option for my 2-night stay and I recommend them for a quaint trip in the Keys.

My husband found this place online and it was a really great find! There was a dock right outside our room which was so relaxing to sit in the morning with coffee and just enjoy the light breeze and scenery. They had chairs and chaise lounges outside for guests to relax and hammocks too. There was also a pool for a quick dip and outdoor grills if you want to BBQ. As far as decor, the room was a little dated but more importantly it was spacious and nice and quiet at night. The bathroom was also very spacious and lots of shelving for toiletries. The shower was great and strong water pressure and they provide plenty of shower gel and hand soap as well as hand sanitizer at the door to clean your hands as soon as you come back in. Towels are not changed everyday but I did need fresh towels so I left the used towels outside my door like the information packet said and the housekeeper did give us more towels but left a note like I still shouldn't have done that which I felt a little hurt as I didn't want to inconvenience anyone. There is a nice big refrigerator and a microwave which is great to have in a room. They also had a cooler in the closet for guest use and we used it one day filled with water which was really great for the day. I definitely recommend Capt. Pip's if staying in the area, especially if you bring your own boat you can dock it right outside your room.

Not in the room we had.
No, they do not.
I believe all the efficiency's have a fridge and stove. We stayed in the Sombrero efficiency and it had a fridge and a stove and a small kitchen. Captain Pips was a great place to stay!
Coffee machines in the room. There is also a restaurant adjacent to the property (basicaly the same place) that serves breakfast and I’m sure you could grab a coffee there.
