Banana Bay Resort & Marina is lauded for its convenient location offering stunning water views and easy access to local attractions. Many guests appreciate the resort's atmosphere, describing it as cozy with tastefully decorated rooms, but some have concerns about maintenance and housekeeping. While the clean rooms and nice decor receive praise, the additional fees and inconsistent service have left several travelers dissatisfied.
The amenities, including the pool, are popular, though opinions on maintenance and breakfast vary. Despite mixed feelings, the resort's ambience and location are its standout features.

Detailed Reviews
I was a little worried about staying here based on the mixed reviews but me and my partner had a wonderful visit! All the employees wear mask and it seems like they are making a great effort in keeping the property clean and sanitized. The hallways in the building could use some attention but the room was spotless. We had an issue with the air conditioning when we first arrived and called down to the front desk, they promptly sent the AC expert to our room and all was great! The pool is large and never too crowded. The hot tub is closed but the heated pool was great. There’s not a proper beach but there’s places to swim in the ocean or take a nice walk near the water. Jessica at the front desk was very friendly and attentive. Other employees are friendly enough but Jessica’s humor really stood out to us. She works in the morning when the breakfast boxes (nothing extravagant a muffin and yogurt) get handed out we especially like the banana muffins. She went to the back to get us them specifically each day of our stay. We have stayed in many hotels making our way down to the florida keys and let me say, she is an asset to the company. The other employees are very friendly and the place seems well managed contrary to some reviews. We hope to come back in June!

We recently had the pleasure of staying 2 nights at this lovely resort. I had originally booked an air bnb but it was cancelled due to issues with the property. I thought it was going to be a disaster trying to find a place to spend a couple of nights on our way from Key West to Pompano Beach. I booked this place and worried about it for a couple of months. I should not have worried. The room was exactly as pictured and was very clean. Everything was in perfect working order. We were in the first building on the end, we didn't have a balcony but certainly did not miss it. The staff, especially Evelin was just amazing. The manager (I didn't get her name, but wish I had) was polite and so very helpful when they were having issues with the site I booked from. The bikes are in wonderful working order and the streets throughout the resort are perfectly shaded for a nice leisurely ride. The only negatives that I would give is that the pool area needs work. There were not enough chairs, lounger saving was really bad and the tiki bar was nearly falling down, the pool towels are kept in the office so if you forget to get towels before heading to the pool or you need or want dry towels it's quite a walk to get them. I also wished there was more obvious security. Overall I would say do not hesitate to stay at this lovely little resort.

Check-in was quick and uneventful and they even gave us a buy one, get one free coupon for Happy Hour at the one of the two bars: poolside or marina bar.
The room was well appointed and clean.
The resort charges a daily resort fee but you actually get something out of it (unlike other properties in the area). The resort fee gives you free bicycles, tennis racquets and tennis balls for their tennis courts, towels for the pool area, horse shoes for the court at the back of the property.
Breakfast is advertised as "light" and it is so if you want eggs, bacon, etc., go out for breakfast. However, they did have juice, coffee, cereal, yogurt, bagels, and pastries. That is plenty of breakfast for me, but not my husband.
The marina bar has a beach area for watching a sunset and we saw a beautiful sunset while listening to the low-key, relaxing band that was playing in the bar. See uploaded pictures.
Checkout was quick and painless.
All in all, I don't understand why we saw so many posts about this property that were not positive. We would go back again if we find ourselves in the area.

The Sunset Point was a great place to unwind at the end of a fun filled day. Memorable experience by the whole family. Bartender Erich was a delight, always smiling and eager to serve. Very attentive and approachable. He made the evening fun. We will definitely return.

The check in was quick and the woman at the front desk was pleasant and friendly. As you’ve read they charge a resort fee which is just a hidden fee to gouge the guest when they arrive. We paid extra for a balcony which looked beautiful on the website but as it turned out it was a view of our parking lot. We were one of the more fortunate as the other side of the building had a view of the highway. It is 100% false advertising. When we returned to speak with the same woman we waited behind a guest who checked in before us with the same complaint. She had a view of the highway. We expressed our dissatisfaction and the woman behind the counter told us the hotel was booked and there was nothing she could do. She never apologizedand she got a little attitude. I told her we didn’t pay extra for a view of a parking lot and we wanted reimbursement for the difference of the rooms without a balcony. She told us because we booked thru a third party we would have to raise the issue with them. I asked her if she could refund the resort fee for the two nights. She said the best she could do is refund one night of the resort fee which came to $23 and change. I told her that wasn’t good enough and we would like at least to refunded the entire resort fee. She said she couldn’t which if she could refund the first night she certainly could have refunded both. She told ya the manager would be in the morning. I decided to let it go because the last thing I want to do on my vacation is deal with the stress of fighting with the hotel. I’ve worked in the hospitality business for over twenty years and this hotel had an opportunity to keep a returning customer but it didn’t seem to really care. The continental breakfast was as stated in previous reviews just ceral, leggier eggos, , bagels and juice with coffee. I arrived around 9:45am and they were out of milk. The staff seemed stressed and somewhat disorganized. When I went for a drink down by the water it smelled like low tide whixh is wasn’t which only could be sewage and when I asked for a pina colada the bartender said the blenders were
Broken. Basically your best bet is to get a beer or maybe a gin and tonic (but they were out of limes as well)
The good things: the pool was big and the room was clean and quiet. They allow pets too which was nice to see. It’s in a central location and if you have book the cheaper room you might leave thinking you got a pretty good deal?
I invite the management to surprise me and to resolve this issue as I’m sure my complaint went unreported by the front of the house staff but somehow I have a feeling you’ll see a blanketed ““thank you for your feedback, etc...” at the end of this review. we’ll see. Ball is in your court Banana
bay.

Good afternoon Kathleen, First of all thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy review. I can assure you this is not a "blanketed" response. I am frustrated to see all of the issues you had encountered during your stay with us. What I can tell you is when it comes to booking your reservation with a third party, and not directly with the hotel, sometimes it can make things a little more hectic. We definitely have more capabilities to make modifications and adjustments when booked directly through our property. As for the breakfast, this is something that we are working on improving immediately. Unfortunately it takes a bit of time due to licensing which I am in the process of working on. To address your bar concerns, again, due to our licensing we can only serve beer and wine. We do have wine based liquor which is a great substitute for now but our main goal is to obtain the correct liquor license which is very difficult down here in the keys but we are working on the solution. Either way, you should have been able to get your pina colada, which I again apologize for. I am glad you enjoyed the pool area and your room. Just for future reference, book with us directly so if something does happen we have full capabilities to make it right. We price match every third party site for the days you are looking to reserve. I hope to see you back again in the future and if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at the hotel. Thank you again for your feedback! Christopher - GM

I usually avoid places with a ‘resort fee’ because they are a way of simply gouging the customer and a cheap marketing ploy to disguise the true cost of the stay. Booked online. Didn’t realize this place had one until check-in.
To call this place a ‘resort’ is a bit of a stretch. It is way overpriced for what you get: ok room but dark, ok WiFi, ok linens, uncomfortable/saggy bed, shower (no tub) that sprays the floor, limited and spotty housekeeping, no balcony or outdoor sitting area at the room, Pool needs repair/repainting of pool bottom. Pool bar is open afternoon hours only and offers minimal drinks and no frozen drinks, sandy sitting area near the water with bar (evening hours only), no restaurant, and no place to enjoy during rainy weather.
Again, overpriced for what you get. Won’t be back

Our experience was terrible. I hardly know where to start to describe just how bad it was. This “resort” does a lot of false advertising and is way overpriced. The rooms are NOT waterfront. The building sets back about 75 yards from the waterfront and there is no beach. They do not provide maid service. If you need fresh towels or a roll of toilet paper, you must go to the desk and ask. The “free breakfast” is a sack with a yogurt, pre-wrapped store muffin, and a juice box. There is no onsite restaurant. They do have a bar that is only open Thursday-Sunday, and the bartender is a surly obnoxious punk who should be put in his place (long story here, but suffice to say he treated my wife, a 62-year old grandmother with health issues, with disdain and disrespect). The owners do not care if you are dissatisfied with anything, including the bartender who should be fired. I could go on and on. Save your money and stay someplace nicer and less expensive. You have many options in Marathon all of which are better.

Good afternoon GRXTU, First of all thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am sorry you now feel this way about our property. I know while you were here your wife was explaining how much you both loved the hotel until we had to have her removed from the bar by the local police department. Although I appreciate your feedback, I support by bartender entirely as we do not condone racial slur's or obscenities on our property. Thank you again and I am sorry our property did not work out for you. Safe travels,

Found this hotel for the good last-minute deal so we could be near Key West. Front desk service was ok. Room has been recently painted and modernized but, the layout was weird. The bed was so far away from the air conditioner that we couldn't feel the cool air, even set in High. The shower was so modern that without half the door, water splashed out. The soaps were so tiny they dissolved before you bathe half your body, and there weren't enough towels for two people (bath and hand towels). We couldn't find the fridge (later it was discovered hidden behind a door in the dresser). There was no iron; guess you have to request it. The parking lot was rustic and terrible; part of it was flooded. Next morning by 5:45 am we woke up to a sweat and realized there was no electricity in the entire hotel. We had to get dressed using our phones' flashlights to leave early because we couldn't stand the heat inside the room without air conditioner. A hotel without an emergency electric plant? This is more like an upgraded motel. After we came home, we discovered an additional charge in our credit card (not explained in the bill with showed a $0 balance.)

My husband & I stayed at the Banana Bay Resort 7/10/2020 thru 7/25/2020. We stayed in one of their King Stunning rooms that over looked the Marina & the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. We have stayed there before in the very same room. We love the lush green gardens, the large pool, sunset views out on the beach or their Sunset Point. You can swim & snorkel off their little beach & fish off of Sunset point. Because we stayed there during the Covid-19 pandemic some things were closed. The two bars & restaurant. But they did provide a continental breakfast each morning. The staff was nice & accommodating. The manager Chris was especially accommodating & very pleasant & personable.
I would have given 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ except when we would place the sign on the door handle for service no one would check to see what we needed. If we needed clean towels, coffee, shampoo, etc... we would need to track down a cleaning lady.

Good evening DnRWaterview2373, Thank you very much for your review! There is a ton of great info on here that I hope everyone reading takes advantage of. As everyone is aware, COVID has made quite the impact on the hospitality industry. One main thing is cleanliness. Unfortunately we are not entering guest rooms during stayovers. If a guest does need anything we are more than willing to get anything you may need. Again, I am glad you posted your review and we really appreciate your feedback. Safe travels, and we look forward to your future return. Management

The staff was super nice, and the location puts you on the water to launch your boat (if you have one)... But that's the only positives I can list.
The bathroom ceiling & shower curtain had many patches of mold & mildew ; the hot tub heater did not work ; the pool is OLD and in need of SERIOUS TLC; and the rate for one night (a Monday) was nearly $300.
The staff did remove the added "resort fee" upon checkout, to try to apologize for the issues... But honestly, I won't be back.
