Islander Resort offers a mixed experience for its guests. While many travelers are charmed by the hotel's cozy, modern atmosphere and its prime beachfront location, they also report issues with room cleanliness and maintenance.
The grounds receive praise for their upkeep, yet the value proposition is questioned due to overpriced amenities and inconsistent service. Some guests appreciate the friendly staff and pet-friendly policy, but others are let down by subpar services and unresponsive personnel.

We booked The Islander Resort because we wanted ocean front accommodations. Our room not only met but exceeded our expectations! The resort staff was friendly and attentive. Our fully furnished patio and sandy beach leading up to the water front was exquisite. Imagine waking up to turquoise waters during your stay on Islamorada! The tropical landscaping and impeccably maintained grounds were just beautiful. The beach furnishings were plentiful and we loved the Adirondack chairs and lit fire pits for evening our evening pleasure. We took advantage of the all inclusive dining experience with al fresco breakfast dining at the Elements restaurant and had a fab casual dinner at Tides. We highly recommend The Islander Resort and will definitely return.

We spent 7 days here here with our two teens and our dog and enjoyed our time. The weather was too windy for snorkeling, unfortunately but we did get out on the IslandGirl boat on our last day. But the property was perfect for our crew: our teens had plenty of room to roam and spent their time playing ping pong, basketball and shuffleboard right on the beach—or in one of two beautiful pools. The bathroom is small but very clean. It was nice having the extra room of the screened lanai, plus two chaises to lounge on. The property is beautifully landscaped and I enjoyed walking our dog all over the grounds.
The bartender at the Tides, Tom, was really terrific and enhanced our stay with his spot-on local recommendations. We enjoyed our drinks and food at the Tides, too.
The pool service could be better. We had to point out that a row of empty cups/cans at the side of the pool needed tending to before they fell in. The servers need to maximize their sweeps of the entire pool area, checking to see who needs food or drinks instead of just running two drinks at a time.
The dog park was perfect—shady and with a dog washing station and water! Also wanted to mention that even though our room was next to several others who also had dogs, it was really quiet. We never heard other dogs bark nor were any of the dogs bothersome. All of the owners seemed to pick up after their dog, which was nice. Our dog gives Islander four paws up.

Our arrival at The Islander Resort was met with a very professional staff who got us checked in within a few minutes. While the exterior of the rooms were nothing exciting, the interior more than made up for it. Well laid out, very clean, adequate size, and close to all resort attractions. The beautiful and tropical plants were everywhere and provided a very pleasant walk to the beach, pools, restaurants or just a casual walk around the facility. The lounge chairs on the beach are plentiful and the palm trees provide not only a beautiful view, but a bit of shade from the hot sun when necessary. With one of the largest beaches I'm aware of in Islamorada, there is plenty of room to be alone or share with friends. The Elements Restaurant along with The Tides poolside Lounge provide a very good selection of food and drinks, but the local restaurants are not to be missed ( but that is a different review). The two pools located right off the beach are well kept, beautiful and are convenient to the entire resort.
This entire resort was well thought out and provides a perfect setting for a great vacation.

After staying in Islamorada last year at a different hotel, we decided to book the Islander Resort for my wife's birthday. We had heard good things last year and then started following on social media. We made the reservations in January, and invited family and friends to come and stay at the resort as well. We raved about the resorts beach area and accommodations. Upon arrival, The front desk staff was not very inviting and pleasant and just seemed to "go through the motions." We got checked in for our 4 night stay and went to the room. We had family/friends with us and had asked prior to check in for our rooms to be close together which did not happen (minor but annoying since it was a gathering.) The room was nice but lacked a thorough cleaning. The fans were caked in dust and dirt on the blades, and the vent in the bathroom was clogged with the same. The trash cans are tiny, so after two bottles of water and a can of beer it was overflowing, but the team only cleans on the third day of the stay for "COVID" but yet they don't clean the fans/vents. They also did not sweep the floor, as the coral sand from the beach was still tracked in and on the floor. I called the morning of the second day and they said they would come empty the trash, when we came back hours later they had not shown up. The in room coffee pot was dirty and had bugs in it, so we just went up to the Elements restaurant. We paid $4 for coffee with our breakfast, and afterwards found out my sister in law just walked up to get a free cup of coffee at the coffee bar on outside patio.
The staff was 50/50. One of the shuttle drivers was awesome - personality was great, he talked to us, and gave some great ideas for places to eat. The other one, had a poor attitude was rude and disrespectful. We called for the shuttle a couple a times, and the front desk staff alerted them, telling us 5-10 minutes. After waiting 15-20 minutes, we called and the front desk did not even remember that we called them and was confused. This happened twice.
The rest was nice but lacking in some areas. The cabanas on the beach we torn and tattered with a few missing covers on the "roof." The cushions on those lounge chairs were stained, old and disgusting. The pool deck was nice but unkept. As patrons would leave they would not clean up and as staff would walk around asking patrons if they needed anything they did not clean up either leaving cups, beer cans and trash on the desk.
Upon checking out, The lady at the front desk was not very pleasant. She did not say good morning or ask how the stay was. Just "Do you want a printed or emailed receipt?"
For the price of the rooms and the hype of a "resort," I had extremely high hopes and was not impressed. I would have stayed at the Sunset Inn across the street like the year prior for half the price and none of the disappointment. Very disappointed.

It is our first time down at the Keys, the resort ground are well kept and clean. Rooms are clean and decent size, however it would be nice if Housekeeping would offer everyday or every 3rd day as stated. We did not receive any housekeeping service, have to call front desk couple of times for body wash, shampoo, extra towels, and toilet paper during our week stay for a family. For over $300 a night these things should be the basic amenities? Besides that, every staff at the front desk were helpful and very nice. Tide bar have good food and drinks options, we choose to eat out at local restaurants every night during our stay and Tide's food and prices are very reasonable if not better then most restaurant close by. They also charge a resort fee each day, I would def. recommend to use the bike, paddle board, kayaks, that were allow guest for use each day.

(Day 1) The grounds are lovely and very well maintained. Our room was nicely furnished with a large private lanai but it was dirty (floors need to be swept and mopped/grime, dirt stains and sand throughout) and it wasn't ready at 4pm as promised. Neither the check-in staff or the bartenders at 'Tides' were helpful or friendly. I'm not sure if we will stay here again. A polite and friendly attitude forgives many things, including a floor that hasn't been cleaned in quite a while. Note: Restaurant ('Elements') is beautiful, 'Tides' cafe is fun, dining and drinks menus are good but $$$$ so be prepared to bring extra cash.
UPDATE (Day 2): We had an excellent breakfast at 'Elements' and the the staff were a pleasure. My husband overheard one of the waiter's saying that his company had just bought the 'Islander' the day before, so we mentioned the state of our room. They apologized profusely. We returned later that day to find clean, sparkling tiles, the glass with the old cigarette butts gone and everything dusted and tidied. What a treat! As a result, we've upgraded our rating from 2 stars to 4 stars.

We loved the Islander Resort property. We stayed on the ocean side. The room complexes were well placed and we liked the location of our room with a water view and easy access to the pools and beachfront. The size of the room was great and loved the tile floor vs carpet-gives it such a cleaner feel overall. Bathroom was a bit small but perfectly adequate. Only annoying thing there was the body wash dispenser was empty. I had requested a replacement but had to go back over a day later and get it myself. Bed was comfortable! Loved having the fridge! The rooms had a generous screened in porch area, but some food material left by previous guests on the ground had a pile of ants-easy enough for us to clean up. Enjoyed the pools tremendously! Had a super attentive waitress one day and another day not so much for drinks poolside. Did not eat at either restaurant on site but other guests seemed pleased with Tides. Staff was all very pleasant. We had a small issue with our stay only because we had 2 separate reservations for our whole time there which should have been handled a little smoother but again not a deal breaker. Overall a very nice time. I think we feel that we are not demanding people but spent a decent amount of money to be there and it is all in the details that makes for a perfect stay and a couple of small things could have made it excellent.

We visited the Islander November 7th-12th for our Honeymoon. We stayed in suite 532, which had a beautiful ocean view. We very much enjoyed our stay. Kris at Elements restaurant was amazing! So sweet and gave us tons of recommendations on things to do in the area. We also met a fellow buckeye, Tony at Tides! He makes a mean mojito for sure!
The only reason we gave this resort 4 stars instead of 5 is because of housekeeping. We requested a broom to keep the sand from our shoes under control (there was a hurricane moving in), the next day the house keepers took it! Okay, more work for you guys but...they didn’t even sweep the floor when they came again. Or provide us with additional towels in place of the ones they took. They also took our used cups from the sink and placed them back on the counter instead of giving us new glasses. The room was clean when we got there, but these ladies definitely didn’t do anything worthwhile during our stay. The only other complaint we have is that we still paid a resort fee which covers all the rentals and activities that were shut down for Eta. I felt that was a bit unfair, since we didn’t get to use the services. The restaurants were even closed an entire day of our stay.
So to sum it up, worth a stay if you dodge the tropical storms/hurricanes!

Dear erintS5361OX, we thank you for the comments that you have provided. We do have a wonderful staff here at the Islander and are very happy to hear that Kris in Elements and Tony at Tides were able to make your experience that much nicer. Yes we did have a Tropical Storm pass us which caused us to close the restaurant for 1 day. Thanks you for being patient with us. I will make sure that I use your constructive criticism about the Housekeeping experience to investigate and improve our services. Please come back and see us soon. Storm season is over December 1st and we would love to see you again.

This place is beautiful, clean and offers great sunrise views. From the moment you turn off the highway, there are lush beautiful gardens surrounding you. Then, a glass of champagne greets you to the property. Unfortunately, we were not fans of the food on the resort but there are plenty of restaurants and 2 breweries less than a mile away that are easily walkable on the "old highway." If you are unable to or unwilling to walk, the resort has a shuttle that can take you anywhere "bridge to bridge" included in your room fee. We just tipped the driver. Kaiyo Grill's happy hour was the best meal we had. Lorelei's is across the street and offers a low-key sunset view with decent bar food and nice live music. The Trading Post (great take out food/key lime tarts), Cafe Moka and Bad Boy Burrito are also across the highway and worth the visit. Beware that crossing the highway can be tricky, even dangerous, so it was nice to have the shuttle. We also saw a manatee off the dock at Islamorada Fish Company, so check that out if your are looking to see one. In summary, this is the resort to stay at. Stop at publix or martini's liquor store and drink your beers on the beach with the best views in town!

Great location/nice property. Resort fee is waste of money. Restaurant is closed, breakfast is lame, can't walk on pier or sit on lounges on beach at night, security sends you to your room. Understand housekeeping is gone due to safety, but what am i paying $200 p/n for, use of a room? all 3 toiletries in the tiny shower were empty.
Cheeca lodge is next store for same price and is a better value. I stayed in room 123. Use of a bicycle or kayak in the broiling sun for one hour isn't worth $30. I suppose if you had kids and wanted to hang out in the pool you would like it more.

StephenRMorse, thank you kindly for your observations and comments. We are disappointing to hear that the bath amenities were not available to you in your room. I will use the critique to improve the training of the housekeeping staff and improve the service offerings. Due to COVID we have reduced the exposure of our staff in guest rooms to cleaning every third day. We feel this is a proper direction for the safety of our valued guests and our associates at the Islander during the pandemic. Our Tides restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast selection is limited again due to COVID however we are using your comments to produce a revitalization of that menu. Again, we appreciate your comments and we hope you have an opportunity to visit us again and see how we have improved.

In all honesty find another place this resort is horrible don’t waste your money.
If you are a guest at the Islander Resort, or passenger on the Island Girls Snorkel and Tours you can use the beach at the resort. Highly recommend Island Girls boat trips and then just plan to stick around afterwards to use the resort pools, whirlpool, bar and food service... and beach.
The rooms have a single or two-cup coffee makers. Not a Keurig. Breakfast is not included.
