Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Marker Key West garners praise for its exceptional location and vibrant atmosphere, thanks to the daily live music and DJs by the pool. While the amenities, including pool bars, contribute to the hotel's appeal, overcrowding and inconsistent replenishment have been noted. The staff's service receives mixed reviews, ranging from commendable to disorganized.
Cleanliness is generally upheld, though some guests have called out irregular housekeeping. Noise can be an issue for some, and despite the central location, the value proposition is diminished by unexpected fees and perceived high costs.

Had an awesome time and this beautiful, tropical, and relaxing pool with an awesome ambience. Great love music, delicious fri ja and the pool bar, and super fun activities like trivia led by their superb activities director. We did music trivia and key west trivia and general trivia and had a blast!

We stayed at the hotel for a bachelor party with 8 other guys. The rooms were comfortable with a balcony and I always enjoy the bathrooms with the water pressure and selection of body wash, shampoo, etc. The pool had great live music and the staff were very friendly. It was in a great location where it was walking distance to Duval Street and near other small shops like Cuban Coffee, the brewery, great places for key lime pie and tacos. Rented bikes nearby too!

We've stayed at The Marker once a year for the past three years. I really love the hotel and the location. They have updated their food offerings to be more mainstream. Breakfast is good and you are able to get a snack or small meal anytime they are open. The pools are heated, which makes night swims very nice. The hotel is walled off from the rest of the city, and the courtyards are very relaxing. At night, you will hear music from The Schooner if you leave your balcony door open for the breeze, but the rooms are very quiet otherwise.
The bartenders are very efficient and friendly. I have always enjoyed the large bathrooms with the soaking tub and shower. A quick five minute stroll will get you to several options for dining, and because you are so close to the harbor, you can book trips with Fury or Sunset as well as charter fishing trips. Duval is maybe a five minute walk down Lazy Way or via the docks.
My only complaint with this year's stay is maintenance and cleaning services.
I noticed last year that the caulking around the base of the tub was failing and the grout in the shower floor was wearing down, chipped and discolored. There was staining at the base of the shower pan. The balcony railings are not regularly wiped down and have black residue, pollen and dust buildup on them. I mentioned this to staff last year and had hoped the hotel would have taken the time during covid shutdown to remedy some of the maintenance issues in the bathrooms, but they were still there this year. Different room, same issue.
They also have not resumed daily or even periodic cleaning service for the rooms. With the vaccine available to all Floridans, updated CDC guidelines regarding surface transmission and a room rate between $469 and $1800 a night, people are not going to continue to be happy with a plastic bag of towels hanging from their door and a few bottles of water and mints left by the door each night. The rooms are thoroughly cleaned when guests leave. They do spend quite a while in each room cleaning, but I would imagine they would have to after a week of no cleaning at all.
Overall, we really enjoy The Marker and will be back. Hopefully they will take care of these few minor things and be back to a regular cleaning routine when we head back in a few months.

This is our 2nd year staying at the Marker for a group trip and this year was extended to two different groups for a week long stay. They were so great to work with during the planning process and check in was made even better. We wanted to have a group gathering room so they worked a deal with us for one of the new suites. That allowed everyone to have a central and private meeting place to hang out, discuss the daily plans and even have a small business meeting. JB was extremely helpful and text or called almost every day to check in. All of the hotel staff from the front desk, concierge, room attendants, bartender, valet, and even groundskeepers were nothing less than professional. We absolutely love the location and atmosphere of Old Town and couldn't be happier that the Marker is here. In the past, we have stayed in houses, etc but with a group of 12-16 people, the hotel is much more accommodating and gives our customers the privacy that a group house would not. Thank you so much for the positive experience!

A friend who lives in Key West recommended The Marker because we wanted more of a resort stay rather than a guest house or bed & breakfast, and we could not have been more pleased with the recommendation! The location is across the street from the harbor and we booked the Kind Bed Partial Harbor View room. The room was spacious, included a good-size mini fridge, and the bathroom had a large tub and separate large shower. Our room (room 244) had a nice-sized balcony that looked straight out over the harbor, however was partially obstructed by large palm trees (hence 'partial' harbor view). My only complaint about the balcony is that it was not covered. Therefore if it rained, you could not enjoy the balcony during the rain or after the rain until the chairs and table dried. The two balconies on either side of our room are covered balconies (rooms 243 and 245), and their balconies were completely dry after it rained. Every staff member we came in contact with was extremely nice, helpful, and attentive.
Would definitely stay at The Marker again!

The Marker is a beautiful hotel with friendly, helpful staff! The rooms were very clean and well appointed; however, I would remove the carpeting (stains) and stick with tile throughout (easier to maintain). For the price of the stay, the amenities are scarce. Two bottles of water each day (not even a soda/drink machine in the building) are included in your room; pool towels are hard to come by - had to request them on two occasions. No free coffee in the lobby; no free snacks (not even a cookie). There are 3 pools: two in the main area with music and one "adult" serenity pool; there is no hot tub. The location is great; the balcony is a nice perk. A few minor adjustments and this hotel could be awesome!

Dear mjsw, Thank you for your review and for choosing The Marker Resort for your recent vacation! Our boutique resort sits proudly on the historic harbor in Old town, a wonderful location! I am saddened to see that your experience did not meet your 5*expectations in terms of value and amenities! In addition to our 3 pools and new 24hr fitness center, we also offer daily scuba dive lessons, a nightly complimentary specialty drinks hour, an additional evening turn down service, Key West Aloe products, a special bath bomb, keurig coffee and tea making facilities, still waters, live music and local talent events, complimentary local and national daily newspapers, aqua yoga and much more! The location of this hotel cannot be beat if you want to be close to the seaport. The beds were somewhat comfortable and it felt more updated than other hotels.
However, the room could have been cleaner. There were random hairs in the tub and along the walls and tub of the bathroom. The mirror in the bathroom is backlit and you could see the dust collecting back there. All of the surfaces had a little dust on them in the room so we went thru and sanitized everything. We also noticed some silverfish and they love dust mites and had plenty to eat. There was also some random stain up the wall and on the ceiling in the bathroom. I did mention the cleanliness of the room to hotel staff and a quick sorry was the best they offered. While the website says all rooms have a walk in shower, they do not. The resort fee states it includes water and mini bar but neither were in our room. We did inquire and were told the latter were removed due to COVID but if we wanted them, they could bring them to our room for a fee. I thought that was part of the resort fee so that really did not make sense. Confirmation email lists the fees and taxes but fails to mention a $30 parking fee - just a head's up. There are limited parking spaces due to some construction activity and the spaces are really small. Would I stay here again? Maybe but I would probably try other places first.

HI 96audreyw, Thank you for staying with us at The Marker Resort. I am sorry to hear that you experienced cleanliness issues during your stay. You did communicate these concerns to our front desk team upon check out and we were sure to pass this along to our housekeeping team. We appreciate the feedback on this matter and will be sure to work harder in the future to provide the best service possible. As you mentioned, we do charge a resort fee of $45 per night. This does include amenities like a luxury bath bomb, live music by the pool, aqua yoga, introductory scuba classes, and bottled water which can be requested from the front desk. Prior to Covid-19 we did have a mini bar in the room that allowed items to be purchased, but due to the current climate we have removed popular touch points in the room. These items are still available to be purchased at the front desk. We, like many other properties in Key West charge for parking on the property. This amenity we feel is superior to other options as it is a covered and guaranteed parking space on property in a prime location of Key West. We truly hope that you will come and visit us again to have the 5 star experience that so many guests have had before. Thanks, Sean Van den Broeck General Manager

This is a beautiful property in a great location. It’s within walking distance of everything. Rooms are great, beds comfortable and resort is in excellent shape. We had zero issues with anything. The difference this year over last time was that the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. The lobby was always crowded and the staff always seemed busy with something. Rooms were not cleaned most days until around 4 when you are hoping to get ready for dinner. Also, the staff interactions just felt less personal than the last visit.
Maybe it was the time of year.
During the 4 day vacation that we were there I had zero text messages from my office back home but had 11 texts from the marker resort. I’m sure there was some way to opt out of that and I was not aware but it seemed a bit much. The last text was to tell me that they would be very busy at my checkout time and I could just call down instead of stopping at the desk. Again, another impersonal feeling vs the last trip when we were talked to a bit.
After leaving I got a pop up on social media from the marker advertising to come stay for a nightly rate of $630 a night. No thanks.

Dear IBGruvin, Thank you choosing The Marker Waterfront Resort once again for your recent Key West vacation! Our bijou resort has found a quiet little home perfectly settled right in Old Town Key West at the iconic Schooner Wharf, a little something for everyone. I do apologize if we seemed a little overwhelmed service wise, this is not up to our standard even with it being our peak season. Housekeeping service runs everyday between 9.30am and 5pm, We have cards in the room to hang on your door so you can schedule service for a convenient time, whether you are an early riser or late sleeper otherwise the Housekeepers will come to your room at some point during those times. I am sorry if this was not communicated to you by our team. I hope you chose to come back to see us, we love our repeat guests, The Marker really is a unique and special Resort on this island and we would love to give you a true 5* Marker stay, Always at your service, Sean Van Den Broeck General Manager svandenbroeck@markerkeywest.com

We were not given the room upgrade we had paid for and front desk played it down. OK, if it is beyond your control, do something to make it up to us. Give us a couple of extra free drink coupons or don’t charge us for early check in. We arrived from airport early and even though our room was available we had to pay a $40 early check in fee. Never done that before...🤔 Pros: excellent location. Jason, the bartender. Large room. Very nice pools. Bathrooms were spacious. Rooms were well-lit. Suggestions: pay extra for non-garden view room. Have the housekeeping staff bring a checklist by every evening for you to fill out before noon about things that you need to have replenished or changed out the next evening. (Or just out a pad in the guest rooms) Give guests bigger trashcans!

I would like to thank the staff who took care of our room when we visited! I had broken two ribs prior to flying in. Kattya (who I believe is in charge of the rooms/cleaning staff) went above and beyond any expectation that I could have had! They brought in extra padding and pillows for our bed to make sure that I had support around my ribs as I was in so much pain. Trinidad, Jorge, and Tenison all came in to help and made me feel so much better during my stay! The rooms are beautiful and clean. The staff freshens them up during the day and hands out complementary water bottles. Just awesome people!

Hi. I had no issues with the AC and I like a cold room as well!
Our neighbors on the balcony next door were smoking, we complained and they stopped. There aren’t any no smoking signs that we saw.
No you have to smoke off the property out on the sidewalk by the road. The facility is smoke free.
The best location to see the sun set is at Mallory square at the pier. This is a short walk from the Marker. You will also find the schooner wharf bar just outside the gate of the Marker along with a host of restaurants and bars. The best part is you are walkable to just about everything you want to do. Also the Marker has bikes you can use to explore if you wish. I assume you’re talking about the cabanas? If so you can book one from the great bar staff I am not sure about price. But there is lots of chairs pool side to enjoy. Also a 3 rd pool is available however it’s more shaded as not as close to the bar. But if it’s quite pool time you want that’s your place. We always get the breakfast package as well to start off our day then usually skip lunch then go out for dinner. Enjoy all that key west has to offer you only live once …. Cheers TommyO352
