The Margaritaville Beach House Key West offers a vibrant, tropical atmosphere that many guests find welcoming. Travelers commend the hotel for its cleanliness and enjoy the convenient shuttle service and close beach access. While the service receives praise for its friendliness, some guests encounter inconsistencies.
The hotel's location is generally well-liked for its proximity to Smathers Beach, yet a few guests mention the need for a car. Rooms are considered clean and spacious, though some report issues with mustiness. However, the value for money is a concern, with high resort fees and extra charges being a common complaint.

Everything about this place was amazing! The location can’t be beat as it’s just across the street from Smathers Beach and easily accessible by foot. The shuttle was a lifesaver and we used it frequently to get to and from downtown. Entire complex was clean and inviting. Hope to return again!

We stayed 5 nights with our two children (9 and 11) in a 1 bd suite, garden view. The room was clean and well appointed, although no bathtub just a standing shower, which is fine with us. I knew the room did not have a balcony, but I would have enjoyed having one- so perhaps if it was in the budget an ocean view would be better. The set up of the room was ideal for a family as the kids had their own TV and space. The small kitchenette was perfect to keep drinks, snacks, light breakfast foods (needs a trash can in this area).
We enjoyed the entire setting of the hotel, the pool was comfortable even during a crowded week. The food/drink offerings were delicious although the menu relatively small. Service could be a bit slow, but was never a problem, and the servers by the pool were very nice and hard working! Towels were readily available for use at the pool or to take to the beach across the street. We enjoyed two short visits to the beach, but you must get there early (before 10) to be sure you have chairs available to rent ($40/2 chairs and 1 umbrella). We rented bikes and rode them everywhere- the ride was about 2 miles into old town, but never a problem and although it was residential in parts it was very safe and the bike path was available. We also bikes to Stock Island for kayaking and lunch, a bit further but also relatively safe for biking.
One hiccup was that we asked for the room to be lightly serviced on the 3rd or 4th night (trash removal, towel refresh, sweep/wipe floors) but no one ever came to do this. The manager did send an apology however- this seems to be a problem industry wide due to covid, but at $500/night it would be nice to have a clean room daily IF that feels safe to the group staying and they make that choice! This issue is not unique to the Barbary, I will note.
I also would have like a gym to be available but it was not due to renovations, I was told I could use the sister hotel, Havana Cabana, gym but didn’t make it there as it was on the opposite side of the island.
Overall we loved the resort, it’s location, and amenities and would go back to Key West and not hesitate to stay there again!

My husband and I came to Key West for the first time for our honeymoon. We are so happy we came across this hotel online. It is located right across the best beach in Key West (Smathers beach), and the resort fee includes paddle boards, kayaks and floaties to use at the beach. When you return from the beach, they have stations throughout the hotel to rinse your feet which is super convenient.
All the staff are nice and friendly. The concierges were super helpful. We booked all of our activities with them as they provide better rates.
We had an ocean view room, it was the perfect size, fully renovated with a huge shower.
Every morning and afternoon they serve coffee throughout the whole property and complementary smoothies (alcoholic and nonalcoholic).
When building this resort, they really thought of every detail. The pool area has couches, beds for 2, and beach chairs. They also have a few hammocks throughout the property.
The food from the restaurant is also delicious and great quality.
The resort is located about 10 minutes from downtown, but there is a shuttle that runs every hour all day long from the resort to downtown. I loved staying close to the beach and a shuttle ride away from the busy downtown area.
They also provide pickup and drop-off to and from the airport.
We loved our stay at Barbary Beach House, thank you to all the staff that made our honeymoon amazing. We will definitely be returning.

Booking a stay at the Barbary Beach House was effortless. I really appreciated that they sent us an email the week before our trip to get us excited for our stay, and sent a text the day of checkin to welcome us. Checking in at the front desk was a breeze. The room key is actually a waterproof silicon bracelet, which made things very convenient. Upon arrival, our room was very clean, spacious, and actually really did feel like a beach house - the theme didn’t feel forced. They went above and beyond remodeling this place and made the rooms have a luxurious feel. The restaurant and bar both offer great food and service. Jason the bartender made us feel really welcome and offered us countless suggestions of where to go and what to see during our stay in Key West. He made us feel like we were catching up with an old friend. Also, the restaurant and bar both seem very compliant with social distancing and disinfecting. The entire property felt well-maintained and clean. The landscaping is lush and healthy. There are neat touches, such as yard games and hammocks scattered throughout the property. The pool area is comfortable and even offered a hidden hot tub. And, the hotel is steps away from a nice beach. I appreciated that they offered a shuttle to take guests downtown. In fact, the resort fee was very reasonable for all the amenities that are offered, from free drinks and poolside popsicles to the kayaks and paddle boards that you can use at the beach. I feel like we were able to make the most of a short trip because we stayed here. The only drawback would be the very firm mattress combined with very soft and unsupportive pillows. However, the front desk was accommodating with any requests we made for different pillows or extra towels. If you’re looking for a clean, cozy, quiet resort, I would recommend the Barbary Beach House - and plan to return again hopefully soon!

I will begin with saying that I was in complete shock on how superb the service was compared to what I was expecting from an average priced hotel away from the main attractions in key west inner city. For comparison of the value I’ve stayed in many properties that can range from $200 a night, all the way up to $4000 a night. Let me tell you this property did just as well or maybe a step above from service that $4k a night property can provide aside from having a butler assigned to your room and other accommodations for higher price resorts would provide. Excellent customer service nothing more to say beyond that.
From being able to check in early ( based on business flow) to how well spoken and warm welcoming the front desk gentleman was. Then the during first 20 minutes of getting settled in my room, a random call from the director of housekeeping to check if the arrival of our room was satisfactory in terms of cleanliness and expectations was an excellent touch.
During my stay I had a minor complication inside and outside of the property. My first one was a technical difficulty with something in the room in matter of less than two minutes someone was there to solve the problem after calling the front desk ....Amazing ! Then with my issue outside the property which did not really involve the hotel however they were there to help me out with an immediate and effective solution.... this place knows the small things count.. The property had a nice terrace to have breakfast and lunch, the pool was great, and water sport activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding was included with the stay. Please use the concierge service as they will do the networking and arrangements for you. Highly recommend the Jet skiing provided by Sunset sports free shuttle included.
Before deciding on this property my greatest need when going to the keys was to insure that I am staying at least five minute walking distance from Mallory Square & Duval Street. When this property was proposed to me I immediately declined it because of the distance. Until I found out about the amazing shuttle service. And that seal the deal. Not only the transportation provided by the property was seamless but the drivers were great and informative. So if you’re concerned is because of distance from the action and you would have to drive / Uber or Lyft to the point of interest of the city * please take this into consideration the ride is covered *. Not to forget ,this is a beachfront property (There are barely properties with beaches in Key West ).
-The Bottom Line-
We all work hard for our money and try to save a lot especially during uncertain times (COVID 19). Especially if you’re a person like me when it’s time for a little splurge you want your money to work for you, look no further while searching for the right place to impress your family or a loved ones when you plan to take them to Key West.

My husband and I had a wonderful time over the 4th of July weekend. Grounds are very nice and hotel is extremely clean and newly redone. They take all guests temperature upon check in and masks are required when walking around the grounds.
Hotel is easy to get to and includes free self parking. Hotel is Located directly across from a long stretch of beautiful sandy beach.
The service was really fantastic from check in to drinks and food poolside service. Staff went out of their way to always check on the guests and were extremely friendly and welcoming. We dinned a few times at the restaurant overlooking the pool and had wonderful meals.
The hotel is pet friendly and there were a few dogs visiting over the weekend, it was nice seeing them and staff were very accommodating and would get to know them all by name. They have pet waste stations throughout the resort making it easy for you to clean up after your pet and they have many areas set up with games for kids or secluded hammocks where you can relax away from all the pool
Action.
The rooms are very nice and nicely decorated, laid out as a suite with a separate bedroom and living/kitchen area. comfy beds and 2 TVs. Little kitchenette is nice with a mini fridge and microwave.
Hotel is not walkable to downtown historic district but they have a free shuttle that comes every hour and drops you right in the heart of downtown (10 min ride) it runs until 10:30 pm (last shuttle back to the hotel)
We would absolutely stay here again and I’m so happy we found this place! It’s a Very nice boutique feeling hotel without being pretentious, just very relaxing.

We booked 9 nights at the Margaritaville Beach House Key West Feb 20 to 28 at a rate of ~$1,525 after 12.5% tax and a $48/night "resort fee". This was for a two bedroom suite with kids bunk beds (kids room also had a washroom). The rooms were nice, well appointed, comfortable, spacious and clean. Having said that we rate this hotel as POOR on the basis of value and the brand's misrepresentation of this property to prospective guests.
There were several things that impacted our perception of the property. The first is the location adjascent to the airport. Planes are coming and going regularly. The rooms do a good job of insulating the sound with the air conditioning fan on full, but there's no mistaking the added noise level when you are outside your room.
The second is the lack of a view. At $1500/night our view was inward to the hotel common area. You'd be generous to call it a garden view and certainly there is no wakeup to a sunny morning nor is there a balcony. The entry to the suite was overlooking the parking lot and garbage bins and beyond that the airport.
The third is the pool experience. The pool, pool deck, and hot tub are significantly undersized for the number of guests. The pool is FULL of people and with the Margaritaville party music cranked it feels like controlled chaos. You could escape across the main road to the beach and pay $15 a day for a chair but you'll not have ready access to any amenities. In short, don't expect to sit by the pool and relax.
By the second day we'd decided to move to another hotel and after the third night we were lucky enough to find one across the island that was less money at $950/night, on the water (with water view), and had a wonderful pool experience (still family oriented).
One other small item of feedback for Margaritaville: the housekeeping service did not clean the kids bathroom or make the kids bunk beds once during our 3 night stay. We mentioned this as feedback at checkout and the desk offered to remove the $48 resort fee from our bill. Which was a nice gesture. However the resort fee was ultimately not removed from our bill. We noticed this after we'd departed and while we appreciated the intent, this failure to follow-through seems telling.
The staff were nice, the room we stayed in was nice, however the experience was ultimately compromised by the location, design, and pricing of the hotel. If this were a $500/night hotel our rating would probably be different.

We booked Barbary after cancelling our pre-existing reservation with a local competitor, and I couldn’t be happier about making that decision. Barbary beach is an incredibly clean, and modern resort style hotel about 5-10 minutes from Duvall street via car, or bike. We stayed in a king suite, the layout and decor was fantastic. Bike rentals and water equipment (Free) are available onsite, but we spent most of our time between the beach and pool. The service is top notch, I made a habit of forgetting my belongings by the pool over night, and the hotel staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Reed, Joanna, and Oksana were very helpful and made great recommendations for activities in the area.
We attempted to make a reservation for oceanfront dinner (mistake) at the nearby casa marina, and we were shocked at how outdated the facilities were in comparison to the Barbary. We were torn between both properties when booking, and again couldn’t be happier with our decision.
I am excited to return to the Barbary, and continue exploring Key West!

The property is Clean, and spacious, offering Newly remodeled rooms. Despite “beachfront” rooms, the property is not actually on the beach. The property sits on the other side of a 4 lane road across from a public beach. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are offered at extra charges.
The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive
The pool offers complementary lounge chairs, umbrellas and towels. Poolside vibes with a DJ on the weekend. Tiki bar is a short walk to grab a cold drink.
The restaurant is overpriced and the food is ok at best. Lobster Quesadilla had strips of shrimp which was tried to pass as lobster.
The biggest criticism/inconvenience is the fact the property is out of the way from Duval Street. A free shuttle service is available each hour till 10pm which takes a half hour to bring you down towards Duval street dropping you off at Conch Republic. “Bikes are available” but at $18 per bike per day. And Uber is readily available at ~$18/way taking you directly to your destination.
The additional travel costs and inconvenient location leads me to recommend you staying elsewhere and closer to Duval.

We booked this trip last minute over the holidays so it’s entirely possible the surge rate plays into this. This hotel would’ve been fairly high in the rankings if I was a decade younger, but logistically with family I feel there are better places to stay on the island at comparable prices. Arrived at 3:30pm and our room wasn’t ready. Went to check into our room at 4:15pm and it had t been serviced. They were extremely apologetic and it wasn’t a huge issue but it was noted. I called several times prior to our arrival asking for a quiet location because I figured pool side wouldn’t be ideal with small
Children. We were given the pool side room and had to switch because it’s open until 11pm and literally blasting music. Just little things that make it better for younger people and not families - lunch wasn’t open until 12:30pm. Laundry bags weren’t in the room and had to go down and grab them. Called down to say we were leaving to have room serviced so when we came back for nap time we wouldn’t be bothered - room not serviced. Public beach across the road is ok but there are better beeches close by and we were bothered a few times by some people that kept trying to hold our children and it thoroughly creeped us out. The staff was very nice and extremely accommodating for all mishaps but it’s in an underwhelming location with a small pool and across the street access to a public beach that is just so-so. If you’re going to get smashed and sleep in all day by all means this would be five stars… but for families trying to have a vacation I’d probably had gone elsewhere that has things moving and smoothly operating earlier.
