Detailed Reviews
If you get a chance to stay here seize the opportunity! Cardrona is a wonderful little stop and this is THE place to stay! We were on the road between Queenstown and Wanaka and exhausted so decided to book in (very last minute). Despite this everything was all set for us when we got there and we felt so at home. What a wonderful place to relax in. The interior is just beautiful! I took lots of pictures - but don’t want to spoil the wonderful surprise of staying here, there is so much to wonder at. We had the hot tub to ourselves in the wonderful garden. The breakfast was perfect, and gorgeous fruit. The bar in the Cardrona hotel is a few minutes away for anyone who wants a nightcap, or just relax in your wonderful surroundings! Thank you so much for a fabulous stay!

This lodge is different. You enter a world of beautiful interior design and good taste.
One of the best experiences we had during our stay in NZ was the 3 course menu made by Angelo. Great food, good wine and interesting talks.
Thanks for your hospitality Angelo.

Cancel all your expensive restaurants, cancel all your 5 Star hotels, your spa treatments, your Telescope Stargazing tours and just come to stay with Angelo, you won’t regret it, ever.
We’ve travelled across the world, yet never felt the warmth, the hospitality, the friendliness and the incredible food this place have.
I never write reviews, but this place is just the best experience we could wish and it is all because of the owner Angelo.
Be fast to book, as these 6 rooms will be sold out, what are you waiting for?

We came to the lodge with high expectations as it was highly recommended to us but our stay was not as pleasant as we had hoped. Angelo is selling and the standard has dropped. It is a beautiful property with a gorgeous garden in a quiet location .Our room was comfortable but needed attention. The host did not greet us and the breakfast was sub standard (no yogurt, fruit or fruit juice).

We were waylaid from our camping/tramping trip by an unexpected cyclone that resulted in snow at elevation. For one night, we thought we'd dry our gear and stay in a hotel, getting a shower and much needed rest. In all of the Wanaka/Queenstown areas, this was the ONLY place that had space. In spite of its heavy price tag, we knew we had no choice, really, if we wanted to have a dry night.
This story is long, but I will summarise like this:
1. The breakfast is limited and you cannot take (even a coffee) out of the communal dining area. This was repeated by the owner/chef many times-- to us and to other guests. For the price you pay, I would have expected (at least) a warm breakfast. No dice. French press coffee, yogurt, juice, and muesli. He also continued to reassert that breakfast "ended soon because he wanted to go horseback riding". He said this to one other guest, a Chinese woman with her daughter and husband, and she ended up finishing her coffee and leaving, feeling pressure to sit and eat the cold breakfast in minutes.
2. The hot tub was not working. And no accommodation was made to compensate for the amenity failing to work as myself, my friend, and two other women were sitting in the living room area waiting for ever for the opportunity to sit in the tub. We had been hiking between 18-22 km everyday for a week and wanted respite. While we were waiting, the chef/owner came in and offered us wine. We all said yes, assuming it was complementary. The next morning, we were charged for the entire bottle. If we had known he had no intention of giving us the wine as a "sorry this isn't working", we would have drank the bottle we brought with us and save about 50 USD.
3. The entire night in the common living room area, where we were enjoying the company of people we met earlier, was interrupted by the chef/owner bragging about his fame and popularity in NZ. He put on his TV show, in spite of none of asking or (really) being interested. He continued to sit in on the conversation, even though it was evident that none of us had asked him about his life. He tried to sell us his cookbooks. Like trying to tell a car salesman to go away but he doesn't get it.
Basically, what could have been a restful evening turned into a solicitation and selling of the owner/chef's personal life (in great detail). It felt imposed, rude, and absolutely unnecessary. It just seems like a bad business model to use this place as selling point for his own life story (which he overshared).

My wife and I stayed here for one night mid-February.
Cardrona Valley Lodge is owned and run by celebrity chef, Angelo Georgalli and his wife (we did not meet her).
There is no doubt this hotel is in a great location. It has a wonderful ski lodge feel to it and the rooms are very comfortable. However we were a little under-whelmed, right from the check in where we were asked whether it was Cardrona Valley Lodge we had booked into, to the guest kitchen area where there is a small kitchen and there are tea and coffee making (none in the bedrooms) but the only milk available was 7 days out of date.
Breakfast was particularly disappointing. Nice to eat communally but to only be offered muesli, fruit and yoghurt with (concentrate) orange juice and coffee was surprising. We expected a little more, particularly at a place run by a renowned chef.
So unfortunately, of all the many places we stayed at during our 5 week holiday to NZ, this was probably the most

Upon arrival at the Lodge we were told quite rudely that 2 of our 3 kids would not be able to stay there because they didn't accept kids under 12!!!! This was despite thre fact that we had booked wing suite with 2 bedrooms... and despite the fact that there was absolutely nothing on their website or booking websites about this rule. So we had to find urgent alternative accommodation for me and my 2 girls at great expense.
Really atrocious to do this to a family with no warning!
The next disappointment was to be told that there was in fact no breakfast included. Eventhough when we booked it said there was. The only"breakfast" was access to a communal kitchen.
Seriously the only thing good about this place is the amazing location... but I would recommend you stay anywhere else in Cardrona. All the other places I checked out are warm, hospitable and gorgeous.

Warm and comfortable accomodation, we really enjoyed our stay. Great breakfasts, beautiful views of Cardrona from the spa pool, and only 2 minutes drive to the ski field access road. We strongly reccomend a stay at Cardrona Valley Lodge.

Exceeded all expectations. Skiing and adventuring was the focus of our stay so Angelos lodge made an ideal base. Couldn’t be more convient to access the Cardrona ski field, horse trekking outfitters and the famous Cardrona Hotel.
Angelo is a fantastic host and chef who has extensive knowledge of the local area. He had amazing breckfasts cooked for us every morning before our adventures and was great with our kids.
The lodge itself is maintained to a high standard,is very warm and as mentioned in previous posts, has very comfortable beds. Thanks Angelo for the great stay.

We stayed 2 nights. 6 of us in total. Lovely warm fire cosy and warm the entire time. We were lucky enough to have Angelo cook for us just beautiful, very talented and easily accommodated vegetarian and no chocolate allergy for desserts. Beds were super cosy. Can't wait to go again. Thank you so much.
