Detailed Reviews

Centrally located and a short drive to anything you’d need.
Our corner room (713) was nice and recently renovated. Beautiful views of the ocean and pool from the balcony. The balcony has four comfortable chairs but could use a small table or two. The beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable, the mattress on the pull out couch was not. Pool/beach towels were not included.
The ocean was beautiful and warm and the sand soft and white.
The many rules on the beach ultimately made our party of four decide we would not return to this property in the future. A third party company charges $50/day (9:00am-4:00pm) for two chairs and an umbrella. These sets are cramped extremely close together, barely leaving room for a path to the ocean. You may bring your own set up (except tents or canopies) but may only set up at the back of the beach behind a rope, where you can only see the lot of rented sets and hardly any ocean. You are also confined to the beach area directly in front of the property as the beach is roped off because they are all private. You’re not allowed to smoke or vape on any part of the beach (you are allowed to bring alcohol).
The security guards and third party company personnel on the beach take their jobs extremely seriously, and not in a positive way. We didn’t interact with any other staff throughout our stay except at the cafe. We all enjoyed the lunch from the cafe.
Overall, it was a nice vacation and Destin has a lot to offer. We would not stay at the property again should we return to Destin though.

My husband & I booked Room 310, a dolphin 1 bedroom for 4 nites beginning Oct. 25th. We got there Friday night at. 9:15pm. The unit itself is tastefully decorated & charming. Saturday morning, 5:30am the huge storage garage doors went up & a garbage truck was extremely noisy picking up the trash! So much for sleeping in! At 8:00am the doors were going up again noisy as all hell! Did Not get a decent night’s sleep!
Darn if Sunday morning the drama outside of Room 310 started again! The Noise was terrible! It starts at 5:30am/6am & repeats just as you’ve tried to fall back asleep! I wanted to just scream out, ‘Cut it out!’
Monday Morning bright & early, same crap! I was exhausted by this time!
The mattress in this Unit is very soft & our backs ached from that too!
So Monday Morning, I went to the main desk & asked, please give us another room for our last day here & if you can’t move us, Can we just leave ‘this morning’ & be refunded for our last day!? I was told, since it would be our last day there, it wasn’t conducive for them to move us & they don’t do refunds. By this time I’m exhausted with the extremely soft mattress making our backs ache & the crappy noise of the large storage bin going up daily between 5:30am & 6am and then again at 7:30am /8am.
Extremely Disappointed with Pelican Beach Resort and we had stayed with them 3 other times!! You go on vacation for rest. & relaxation & we sure didn’t get that! We checked out Monday evening, - we were that exhausted ! Couldn’t take another night of a bed that didn’t give us a good nights sleep & then the LOUD Noise every morning of the large tall garbage storage unit door going up several times! Sadly, it was a TERRIBLE Vacation !

We stayed in room 2016 for a week and loved it. The beach view was great. We didn't have issues with cigarette or weed smells while sitting on our balcony as others have had.
The only bad things to note is the couch was not very comfortable and there was no broom in the condo. Any time we've stayed at a condo on the beach, there has always been a broom so we can keep the sand swept up. We probably could have requested one but we didn't bother with it.
The tiki bar and restaurant were convenient, I just wish they stayed open later. The restaurant closes as 4 and the tiki bar closes at 7. If we decided at last minute to eat on site for dinner, it would always be too late. And if we went out for dinner, it would be too late to get a drink when we got back.
My sons enjoyed the pool, they never seemed too packed.
We had a really nice week and would definitely recommend.

This trip was not our first to Florida, and we normally stay at a house with direct beach access. This year we decided to do a condo and found Pelican Beach Resort. It was reasonably priced and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time together as a family with no hassles. The kids loved that they could switch from the beach to the pool as many times a day as they wanted, since they are a short distance apart. If one pool was crowded, there were two others to choose from. The Tiki Hut served good drinks for kids and adults, and on days we rented chairs for the beach, there was a server to take our order, so we didn’t have to leave the beach! We stayed in room 1118, and it was perfect for us! The kitchen had all the dishes, cooking ware, and Tupperware that I needed, so my menu was not limited during our stay. In the mornings, we could sit on the balcony and enjoy the nice ocean view while we drank our coffee. The dining area was great and allowed the 5 of us to be able to sit and have dinner together. Overall, this condo had a relaxing and friendly feel. I can tell the owners put a lot of work into the design and upkeep of this condo. We plan on booking this same room next summer.

Went here on our honeymoon and honestly I’m pretty disappointed. I’m a Corrections Officer at a Medium/Max state prison so I’m pretty accustom to policy and rules but man this place is comical with the amount of rules they have. The average age of guest here is probably 35 and up yet they’ve got “security” walking around everywhere watching the guest. I paid for a beachfront room yet when you get to the beach they’ve got chairs lined up right on the water blocking your entire view, you can use the chairs if you want to pay 50 dollars a day. You have to sign this big paper when you get in stating if get caught smoking or vaping anywhere on grounds you’ll be kicked out and fined $250 dollars. Our bed is so uncomfortable that I left my wife last night to sleep on the kids bunk bed setup they have. Long story short, not very welcoming and they make you feel more like an inmate than a guest so if you’re looking for a nice experience and a place to cut loose while being treating like an adult/paying customer, look elsewhere. Oh one last thing, they had a water repair thing going on and apparently some guest don’t have running water.

Went on vacation with Husband and grandkids staying at The terrace excited to be at the beach when we get there. We find out that you’re not supposed to sit in front of the blue chairs that you have to rent even though there is still at least a good 5 feet before you get to the ocean, so we did put our chairs there and we’re rudely told that we could not sit there that we had to sit behind the blue chairs I paid just as much to stay there as everyone else to sit near the beach, not behind a bunch of blue chairs with umbrellas that you couldn’t even see the ocean. They actually told us that if we did not move our chairs. We could be evicted. We did contact the city. They said that you actually can sit on the beach you have 20 feet that is free beach, we explained that to them and they said no that was not true anymore so someone doesn’t have their story straight. We did continue to sit but had to move our chairs they said our feet had to be touching the water how ridiculous is this then they would leave us alone then we went into their pelican Beach Café, and as we were sitting there with our grandchildren, one of the workers an older gentleman possibly the manager of the café started using the F word and was screaming and yelling at one of his employees and my grandkids just looked like what is going on we have been to Destin quite often. It is a beautiful place, but I can guarantee you. We will never stay at the terrace or the pelican and we will never give it a good review. If anyone ask our opinions we will tell them do not stay at those two locations.

The resort itself is nice, but the beach rules are ridiculous. You can’t have your own chair down by the water to put your feet in the ocean. You Can only stay on the beach for 1 hour to watch your child swim
The chair rentals are so compact and 5 rows deep there is very little ocean view or breeze
I would not stay here again!!

The unit we stayed in was very clean but needed some attention, the huge problem was the beach situation. If you don't reserve beach chairs weeks in advance you are probably going to end up in the 4th or 5th row, if it's available, without a view of the ocean, period. Any private set-up is behind that as long as high tide doesn't push everything else back to where there is no room for them. And don't even think of renting from neighboring property rental company's because they will not rent to anyone staying at Pelican Beach. The attendants said if we were staying at a different resort it wouldn't be a problem. Talk about cornering the market. So with approximately 150 sets of chair set ups and probably 200+ rooms your beachfront vacation might not be so beach front.

The room was fine but if you want a pleasant beach experience this is NOT the place. I have never stayed at a place with so many rules on the beach. They have made it so that if you want to enjoy it you have to wait until they take all the umbrellas and chairs up late in the afternoon. I can understand having some chairs and umbrellas set up but don’t use the entire beach area with them. Give people a choice other than set up your own chairs behind the 6 rows of chairs. You cannot see the ocean from 6 rows back. If people are paying for beach front we should be able to enjoy beach front without having to pay $50 per day for a chair and umbrella and even then you may still wind up on the 6th row.

You're paying for the view and that's about it. The front help desk is very unprofessional. You're required to wear a plastic wristband and all times and if lost, they charge you $25 to replace it. Don't eat at the café, bar food is a lot better. The kitchen sink faucet head was broke The phone in the unit was dated as if from the 80s, and that faded yellow color. Beds were uncomfortable.. Furniture showed major signs of wear and was also outdated. The master bathroom sink trickles water, no water pressure at all. Toilet constantly ran. Pelican bar female bartender was rued and the drinks are watered down. Not allowed to hang out on the beach near the water because you're blocking the view of set out chairs and umbrellas, mostly vacant. Oh, and they're under construction, so it's loud and debris is everywhere. Look somewhere else.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Pelican Beach, Wanderer. We value guest feedback and apologize that some aspects of your stay didn't live up to your expectations. The plastic wristbands are simply a precaution to protect all of our guests' safety and security around the pools and beach areas. We want all our guests to have the best experience on-property - this includes comfortable beds, dependable fixtures and no construction noise. While it may seem like each item is small and inconsequential, it's incredibly important to us that all of them combine together to make your vacation perfect. We'll certainly review the items you mentioned with our teams here to make sure that trends don't emerge. We are happy to report the construction has been completed and will not have any effect on future stays. We hope you will stay with us again so we have another opportunity to provide you with the delightful experience we strive to offer all our guests.
