Opal Sands Resort & Spa is celebrated for its prime beachfront location, offering guests stunning gulf views and a variety of praised amenities, including a luxurious pool and diverse dining options. While its rooms are lauded for cleanliness and comfort, some guests have reported booking issues. Despite the occasional service lapse, the staff generally receives accolades for their attentiveness.
However, some travelers question the value, citing the high costs. The atmosphere of modern luxury mixed with variable live band performances makes for a unique experience.

Great hotel with a wonderful location. The staff was fantastic and George the bartender at Sea Giuni was phenomenal! He helped us out on numerous occasions and made our stay so much fun. Only downside is the beach is not private and got fairly crowded. Highly recommend and I expect we will be back.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Opal Sands for five nights, 19 -24 June. We had a beautiful King room on the 9th floor with a lovely balcony that was ocean front and we could watch the dolphins jumping in the water. The hotel is beautiful, modern and clean. Check in was fast, easy and our room was ready when we arrived at lunch time. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice, it was fabulous and each morning we enjoyed breakfast which was either buffet or table service. We had table service each day. Pool was lovely and each morning the lovely pool attendants would get us set up with two beds, bed covers and freshly laundered towels that were still warm. The pool service was excellent. Like really really good. Drinks and food, fresh water, ice etc. The girls who served us where just lovely and we particularly enjoyed the jersey boy behind the pool bar. He is priceless! Location of the hotel is great, right on the sand, no roads to cross over and it is key entry to get back into the hotel. It seems they have addressed the issue of non residents using the pool facilities. I can't really speak much to Clearwater to be fair, we did not venture far from hotel as we were looking for five nights of relaxation. We really enjoyed our stay here, we walked the beach and we did not see another hotel that looked as nice, had as nice a pool or had a fabulous location on the sand. Kudos to all the employees who work here, who work hard, make it look easy and made us feel so very welcome. Thank you.

We spent 5 nights here during the beginning of January. Everything about the hotel is beautiful; the lobby, the rooms, the views, the pool, the restaurant. We had a premium king gulf front room that had a beautiful view overlooking the gulf and the pool area. The room also had a nice sitting area with a sectional couch and bistro table for 2. We ate at the main restaurant multiple times for breakfast and dinner and also had room service a couple of times. All of the food was delicious. The walk to the beach took 2 minutes and we rented chairs with umbrellas. Every member of the staff that we dealt with was friendly and polite. We also spent the better part of a day at the spa. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. My therapist was excellent and I wish she was closer to home because I would go back regularly. The only issue I had at all was the constant club music got annoying, especially in the late evening when the pool area was jammin' but there wasn't a sole around (it was January and it got cold once the sun went down). A couple of nights we called around 11 pm and asked them to turn it off. I'm all for people enjoying themselves and the music but there wasn't anyone enjoying it. I feel they were trying to accommodate a clientele that wasn't there. Most everyone we saw was either middle aged or families with young children. The hotel's amenities (food, spa, parking ,etc) weren't cheap but you get what you pay for. We would definitely return.

Beware of the Covid 'new normal', which basically means you're still paying $300/night while servicing your own room, which probably saves the resort a ton of money on operational costs. They provide a room cleaning once every five days, otherwise they'll drop a bag of towels, clean sheets and coffee refills upon request. Be prepared to take out your own garbage, change your own sheets and fold your own towels. Later get ready to fight other guests for beach chairs as there is no system for moderating and enforcing occupancy of them.

Just arrived home after a 2 night stay. We were disappointed to find out on arrival that the hotel is offering limited services right now due to Covid-19 (including not cleaning your room while you stay and not offering any snacks in the pantry). This information wasn't available online and we weren't told about the policy at the time of booking. We would have been more understanding of the policy if health and safety was being taken seriously in all aspects, but the pool was overcrowded and it was impossible to socially distance. We left shortly after a couple were seated right next to us as we felt unsafe. The bars were also densely populated in the evenings. Overall, we left with a bitter taste as we were under the impression that the resort was implementing measures that were convenient and would allow for cost savings on their side. Plus, if you're spending around $300 per night on a room - you'd expect a cleaning service to be provided. P.s. I don't normally write reviews on here, but we weren't even asked if we enjoyed our stay when we checked out today.

This was one of the worst experiences in a hotel that I have had. The internet and TV went down for one day and continued into the next day. They said that it was out of their control, but this did not happen to the entire area or block. It was only this hotel. They chose the supplier and had no emergency provisions with the company. So they had to wait until the service department opened on Monday morning. The electricity was a little squirrely. Several of the plugs would go off and on. This occurred for different plugs and different devices. We called the electrician who switched two lamps on and off and said he had no idea what was wrong and left. There was no microwave in the room. If you wanted anything heated you had to go down the hall and use the communal microwave. The hotel advertises that it is pet friendly so we traveled with our 2 1/2 pound dog. The daily fee for a dog is $75. We stayed three nights and were told that the room would not be cleaned during our stay. I questioned why there was then a daily fee and not a fee just for the stay since presumably there is a special cleaning that warrants the $75 fee which would have been fine with me. The person who checked us in explained that they charge such a high daily fee to discourage people from bringing their pets. And the area on the hotel property to walk a dog is a patch of grass about 5 feet by 5 feet. Not at all pet friendly. Because I complained, they did reimburse me for the pet fee but no consideration for no TV and no internet. We were just out of luck paying $311 a night in what was supposed to be a Premium King room.

Well, where to begin...First of all, the staff were excellent!! The valet, the front desk clerks, and the wait staff all did a great job of making us feel welcome.
Now, to the not so good. When we first checked in, we were informed there was NOT a private beach for the hotel. The pictures gave the idea, that maybe it was a private beach. When you pay $500+ per night, you're kind of expecting that.
When we got to the room, the first thing we noticed is the bed was very average. The mattress was lumpy and the bed was squeaky, too. Also, the bed linens were not nearly as soft and luxurious as one would expect at this caliber of a hotel. Not even a headboard...Also, the sliding door to our bathroom was off the rails, so, we had to call to get that fixed. They did give us free coupons for breakfast, since we had that issue right away.
I set the a/c in the room to 60 degrees, but it kept resetting to 72 degrees. I had to call and ask about that! They informed me that you have to shut and lock the balcony door for the a/c to stay where you set it. Truthfully, I don't think the temperature ever got below about 68, because we woke up sweating during the night.
The room location also proved to be an issue! We were put in a room on the north side, right above a public beach parking lot. So, late at night, there were people carrying on, coming and going, and blasting music. Plus, you could hear the traffic going by on the main drag. Also, EARLY in the morning, the beach grooming equipment was out getting the beach ready for the day. NOT the relaxing kind of way you want to wake up on vacation.
We did go to the pool around 9 one morning. We snagged good chairs, but it fills up quickly. The noise also quickly escalates with kids and other guests filling up the space. We only stayed until about 11:30.
During our last night there, the people in the adjoining room came home inebriated at 2:30 am, yelling profanities and waking everyone up.
Be prepared for about an extra $100 per day being added to your room for resort fees, taxes, and valet parking. Our rate was $475 per night, but, our total bill after all those fees for a 3 night stay, was $1875. I guess we were thinking, that paying that kind of money for a resort like this would afford a little more luxury and more privacy than we encountered.

After 5 months of my family working from home I thought a local weekend getaway would be a perfect change for myself, my husband and 2 adult children. In the past when my husband and I had stayed here, we loved their beautiful open spaced lobby, modern and clean decor, balconied rooms looking over the gulf and the food in their restaurant Sea Guini. Reservations assured me that they were following CDC guidelines, social distancing, cleaning, and requiring masks. I felt confident this luxury hotel would do all they could to help ensure our safety. Upon arrival I noticed required mask wearing signage all over, as well as hand sanitizer and wipe dispensers near the exits and elevators, however there was NO enforcement. When I saw people walking in the lobby with no masks, masked employees walked past them and said nothing to those guests. I even saw a “security” guard at the pool with no mask on chatting with people. When we got to our immaculately clean room, I opened our balcony door to see the pool was right below us and was noisily filled with people not social distancing. Due to my desire for a quiet getaway I called the front desk to ask for a room higher up or away from the pool. I was told it was not possible due to the hotel being at 100 % capacity. I was stunned. Was that even allowed during a pandemic? For dinner we ordered room service. The food was outstandingly delicious and very pricey which was disappointing when it arrived handed to me in plastic bags in plastic containers. For the cost of a luxury hotel I felt like I was in a potential Petri dish for Covid and we left the next day. The hotel did a very poor job at making me feel safe compared to my recent visit to Disney Springs where everyone had their temperature checked upon entering and mandatory mask wearing was cheerfully enforced by their employees. Between the added on charges for valet parking and resort amenities which I am confused as to what those amenities were since most services were not available I felt like the hotel cared more about their profit then making their guests feel safe and relaxed.

On Friday the 24th of July I was charged $452 for a one night stay at this hotel. Upon checking in The front desk informed me there will be no smoking anywhere in the hotel including there outside facilities. I made a comment that I will find out from the people who work the outside where I can smoke. The guy at the front desk had this look of disbelief on his face. I could tell he didn't understand what I meant by my comment because he told me again that there's no smoking anywhere. I left it at that because we come from 2 different world's and I didn't want to make any type of scene. Later, me and my girlfriend go outside to the sandbar and get some food. I go to the public beach just outside the hotel to ask for a lighter to smoke my cigarette and come back to close out. After, I went back inside for the night, I ordered room service just before they stopped serving. We ate a little bit and went to sleep before midnight as I always do. The next morning after gathering all our things, I grab my last cigarette out of the pack and leave the empty pack on the dining cart. My girlfriend tells me "don't leave your empty pack there, the hotel is going to try and say something." I tell her the hotel can't say anything because I followed they're rules and didn't smoke. We then take the elevator down to the lobby and I check out getting an additional charge of $687.93 for the food and valet.
Now, July 28, I wake up to find 2 additional charges made by the Opal Resort one for $267.50 and one for $320.43. When I called this morning, I was told that its for a smoking charge. Now I'm enraged, especially because I didn't smoke on that property at all. After calling back 2 additional times and speaking with the manager, he tells me that the additional charges are justified because the cleaning lady said they found ashes (not there was an empty pack of cigs), which is impossible since I didn't smoke. he also says that the guy who checked us in heard me say I'm going to smoke anyways. This is all bogus and I want my money back, especially since I followed all the rules.

We brought the entire family down for Spring Break in April. the hotel location was perfect for us as we prefer to walk if possible. With one exception (the aquarium), we never touched the car during the trip.
The staff was very friendly and while pool chairs were at a premium, the gentlemen around the pool worked diligently to fid seats for our family. Around the pool, the waitstaff was available friendly when needed.
We had a one bedroom suite which offered stunning sunset views. The room was plenty big for 2 adults and 3 young children. The room was clean upon arrival and stocked with plenty of towels since housekeeping came every other day.
Overall, highly recommend.
