This is a historic mansion and not a B&B. This house has an interesting history, and if you like historical homes you should definitely stay. This house is on the National Register, and was built in 1830. The pricing is extremely competitive for the area. The mansion is within walking distance to the beach and downtown New Haven.
The house is decorated in original art. The owner is an artist. There are several dolls in the house, which we’re all hand made by the owner. They are quite extraordinary!

As previous reviews stated, the house is old and very lived in. It is just like a visit to your grandparents house. It needs a little attention. Nick is a very gracious host and made us feel at home. If you decide to stay here, please bring your own bottled water. There is a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker for convenience.

Room Tip: There is not a marker outside so if traveling at night look for the funeral home marker next door.

Look at my reviews and you will see I stay in a lot of hotels, most of them ‘normal’ Marriotts, various versions of Hilton with words like suites after the title and honestly it’s boring and bland. This place was different, interesting and quite good fun. I did struggle to find the place in the dark, there’s no sign outside saying it’s the hotel you booked.
Wellcome when I got there was friendly and I was offered but declined the historic tour (I live in a house 200 years older than this one). Room was clean but ‘lived in’ and bed was comfortable. There was a large selection of tv channels and internet worked well. Location was on a quiet street and my room was sufficiently warm that I turned the heating off. Bathroom was small but there was hot water and it was clean. I left early without speaking to the owner but I had a little poke round downstairs and it was full of craft work, slightly spooky dolls, art work etc.
My advice is that if you like perfect rooms go to a chain and stay in the same room you stayed in last week in whichever generic city you were in. If you need a room in New Haven, want something different, and are prepared to be open to new experience then give this a try. I didn’t have breakfast but would be curious to know what they serve, it really could be anything.

Staying her is similar to renting a room in a boarding house. Upon arrival at the front door, one is greeted by dirty steps, chipped paint, a house in need of upkeep, old Halloween decorating heaped inside the front door (in May), and a first floor crammed with art made by the owner’s wife, including collages, modern? Oils, and dozens of dolls of every description. It has an “old” smell.
Owner gave a friendly 5 minute “history of the house” and we were shown to our room up about 20 steps. We we’re offered a choice of two rooms, either one with a TV or one with a refrigerator. Room is very old fashioned, very small bathroom and musty odor. Again the decor is owner wife decorated. The internet did not work most of the time. No air conditioning, but a small heater is located in the room. Woodwork needs painting,
An electric kettle was provided with some tea bags and instant coffee. No cups. We had to ask and he brought us some styrofoam.
There is also no maid service at all.
On the bright side, the bed was comfortable.
We had to pay in full upon making the reservation, so opted not to move to another hotel.

It's quirky. It's fun. It really reminded me of guest rooms kept by my relatives - nice, but a little kooky. The rooms are clean. Nick is a sweetie who opens up his home, gives you a nice tour, shows you to your room, answers your questions, then pretty much leaves you to yourself after that. Right around the corner is the amazing Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, and all of the rest of Little Italy. There's a great farmer's market at Wooster Square on Saturdays. Walking distance to Yale. Half the price of nearby chain hotels.
Internet worked well for us throughout our entire several-day stay, so may have been updated. There is maid service on request.

Difficult to categorise this place- i was torn between average and very good.
The owner was so welcoming, helpful and proud of his unique home that i opted for very good.
Our room had some good features and was a little tired in some aspects.

This is a big old house in a nice location very close to Wooster Square (and Pepe's Pizza and Sally's Pizza!) Kind of dimly lit inside. Comfortable bed. The biggest downside was the wifi: pretty bad everywhere I tried it - not just my own room but also the common room.

This hotel is the first in the country to have a sprinkler system as a former owner was the inventor of it. The room was large with a huge canopy bed. The pillows were great as well as the furnishings in the room. Private bath was adequate. The house was filled with over 100 handmade dolls, paintings and bas relief created by the owner. Very interesting.
Only downside was the lighting was a bit dimmer than I like in the bathroom.

I'm not sure if there is. I didn't drive and used Uber while I was in New Haven. I would call the Inn and ask if it's not on their website. The owner is really nice.
