Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

While the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale is praised for its prime location near Yale University and downtown attractions, guests' opinions on value and amenities are mixed. Some travelers commend the hotel's service and cleanliness, but others recount unexpected charges and maintenance issues that detract from the experience. The atmosphere is marred by noise complaints and unexceptional decor, and despite the hotel's cultural event offerings, the lack of basics like complimentary WiFi disappoints. Overall, reviews suggest that the hotel's offerings may not fully align with its cost.

The room was weirdly arranged and small for 2 people. The room was small, and the bathroom was smaller - for this reason, they put the toilet just beside the sink...? This I never seen before. Also, the design of the shower is BAD. The heat and the water flow control are joint, meaning that if you want more water you need to boil yourself first and if you want cold water you will barely get any water coming out.
Everything else was mediocre for a hotel that was priced $160. Hope they will improve next time I come.

I moved to this hotel late at night after having a horrible experience and leaving the Blake Hotel. I was greeted by employee, Shante Brunson, who was so friendly and welcoming. My room decor was a little outdated but it was clean and comfortable and I had a gorgeous view of Yale. It’s also in a lively location near bars and restaurants. I would definitely go back.

Having to pay for wifi feels cheap. High end hotels waive this fee. Very strange for Omni to charge guests to use wifi.

We arrived at 10 pm due to flight delays. We wanted to order room service since we hadn’t eaten dinner and were surprised to hear food services shut down at 10. The only options were to go to a local restaurant outside the hotel (the area is not safe at night) or Door Dash. Very disappointing for a large hotel.

In the bathroom, we were shocked to see the toilet sticking out of the sink counter. And worst, there was no lid so toilet spray would go all over the sink, floor, walls, and shower. I tried to move rooms that night but the apathetic front desk person said they were booked. My workaround was to put a towel over the toilet before flushing. The next day we were able to move rooms and that’s when I realized ALL of the rooms had the same set up. Fortunately our new room’s toilet actually had a lid. I’ve never seen a bathroom setup like this. It was strange, awkward, unsanitary, and inconvenient.

If this hotel ever had a prime, that time has passed. In dire need of repair and updating - the a/c in our room needed to be supplanted by a mobile unit on the floor. So noisy we turned it off. But the street noise penetrated the crappy windows. Peeling walls. One (stained) bathrobe. Such a smell of chlorine from the taps that we understood the two free bottles of water. You had to pay for WiFi- when was the last time you saw that? - unless you joined the loyalty program (trust me, I will never stay at another Omni) and even then they mistakenly billed us for the WiFi. Only bright spots: a decent fitness center, good breakfast and excellent staff.

As a Select Guest Loyalty Program member, the front desk agent told me Internet access and grab and go Breakfast are both complimentary (free). When I used the Internet, i was charged for each Internet devices (total $60). When I went to get Breakfast, I was charged again for the Breakfast I selected. I was very dissatisfied that Omni advertised the benefit one way but treated the guest another way. In addition, I asked for a quiet room, but I could hear loud music and noise into 3AM in the morning. I could not sleep at all. I would not recommend this Omni Hotel to anyone in New Haven, CT.

Overall, I feel the service at the hotel was very subpar. First, I was staying there because my daughter was taking the SAT exam AT THE HOTEL, but when I booked the reservation, the agent at the hotel I spoke with on the phone knew NOTHING about it and couldn't answer any questions! Second, it's the first hotel I've stayed at in a very long time that charges for parking. Third, the "king" size beds were smaller than my true king size bed at home. Fourth, the elevators were painfully slow to arrive after pushing the buttons even though they did move very fast once you did get on...so much so that we didn't think we could get into the hotel from the parking garage since we waited so long for the elevator to arrive, and this continued throughout the stay. Fifth, we needed to use one of the key cards in order to get to our floor in the elevator after we checked in, but this was NOT explained at the desk! In addition, it wasn't the key card for the room, but rather the one labeled "parking"! It took, one of the other guests to explain this while my daughter and I were stuck riding the elevator up and down and unable to select our floor! Sixth, the panel to swipe the key card in the elevator is only located on one side, even though there are floor buttons on both sides of the elevator. This makes it impossible to swipe your key card and select your floor if the elevator is packed and you're stuck on the opposite side, which we were several times since the hotel was fully booked due to the SAT test! What a poor design! Seventh, the hotel's main lobby was chosen as the meeting point for all the students taking the SAT exam but it was too small to accommodate the hundreds of students! This should have been taken into account, especially since so many were staying at the hotel and all of the students needed to preregister for the test so it was known beforehand how many there were. Students should have been directed to a better meeting place in the morning before being brought to their testing rooms. Eighth, I requested an extra hour to check out at noon instead of 11:00 AM when I checked in and this was granted, however, when I went to my room after eating breakfast I wasn't able to get in because my key card was denied. This was at 11:40 AM. I went down to the front desk and was "helped" by a very unprofessional looking man who scanned my key cards and said they were fixed, but when I returned to my room upstairs they still didn't work! I had to go back

The Omni New Haven Hotel is centrally located in Downtown New Haven, Connecticut. We stayed for 1 night (Wed July 31 2024) having booked a “Deluxe Room, 1 King Bed” with British Airways as part of a wider package. We did initially struggle to secure the hotel, as one moment it was on the BA website then it wasn’t! By bagging it as part of our package, we saved some money compared to booking it separately.

We were anticipating using the Omni’s left luggage service, but they kindly allowed us to check in very early - some 3 hours - which was a big help to our itinerary for exploring the city.

The hotel was quiet - we didn’t see many other guests - and the few staff we encountered when we passed through the lobby on our brief visit were friendly and polite.

The Omni Hotel was clean and comfortable and while the lobby and hallways seemed a little tired, the room was bright, modern and clean. The bed was ginormous and extremely comfortable!

Our only disappointment with this hotel was the absence of free WiFi. You could either pay or sign up to a membership scheme, which we tried, to no avail.

The hotel is close to local amenities, including trendy restaurants, bars, coffee shops, a liquor store, a CVS Pharmacy and more. It was within walking distance of a bus stop for the free shuttle which loops to Union Station. The New Haven Green and Yale University properties are only moments away.

We would recommend the Omni Hotel for anyone paying a visit to New Haven.

More than the property, I'd like to do a shout-out to thank Front Desk Carlos for his service! He allowed us to check in at 2:30 though the official check in time was 4pm. He was courteous & explained how to obtain free wifi, as well as accommodate my requests for a more "quiet" room in the upper floor. He worked with me on the floor layout. My room on the 15th floor, looking down at Temple St was more pleasant than the Crown St view. On Saturday night, you can hear the loud music & motorcycles from the street, but otherwise, it was quiet enough. Carlos also addressed me by my name on my checkout after 4 nights. Hotel is conveniently located, minutes walk from the Shops at Yale & many diverse restaurants nearby. Thank you to the hotel for daily 2 bottles of water!

dated hotel that takes its central location on Yale's campus for granted. Rude staff, dilapidated rooms, poor service.

what to say - everything that could go wrong went wrong. Check-in time was incorrect on the automated confirmation email so room was not ready at the time stated. Check-in staff was rude. The bathroom tub did not drain properly, the faucet was broken, the heating did not work so the staff sent up a space heater for the entire stay. Restaurant service was slow and inattentive (did not offer coffee refills!).

I understand New Haven does not have a lot of great hotel options, but I felt that the omni really took advantage of its location and availability to take our business for granted.

Honestly a lot was disappointing. First of all the whole strike situation is out of control which is obviously partially at the fault of the hotel. We were woken up the day after the wedding we attended at 7am by people banging drums and screaming outside on the street. Prior to this, we had to get new room keys twice because they stopped working. When we checked in, we were not given a wedding bag (had to go down after the fact to ask for one) there was no body wash in our room which was decently cleaned at best and there was only one robe in a room for 2 people. The woman at the FD also was not friendly at all.

If you are only going to have a portion of your staff, then you shouldn’t be charging pull price.

This was easily the worst Omni experience I’ve ever had.

The Hotel does not have a washer and dryer for guests to use. At additional cost per item, we do offer laundry services each morning, except for Sunday's. Bring your laundry to the Front Desk prior to 9AM, and your laundry will be returned to your guest room in the evening.
