Overall the stay was fine. Service was great! I was concerned when I first saw the place. It made me wonder if I made a mistake booking this place as the outside looked a little rough. It could really use a make over. The inside was good and our room was neat and clean, but again, could use a make over. I probalby would stay there again.
Last week, my son and wife visited us. We struggled to find an affordable, clean, and comfortable hotel in the Mystic area. Howard Johnson's was perfect. The staff were kind and helpful, the room and lobby were clean, and while it isn't newly renovated, it provided everything we needed for them to have a comfortable stay near all the ammenities of Olde Mystic Village.
I recently stayed two nights at the Mystic HOJO over Columbus Day weekend 2021, I checked in on Sunday and left on Tuesday. Some other reviews sound bad but I had a great stay! This was my first time staying at this property. I typically love these older HoJo's with the balcony rooms and have stayed at several in eastern states. This one was nicely renovated throughout! When I arrived Sunday, it was just past 4pm check in time, and a younger heavier set man, was super friendly, very informative, telling me everything I needed to know regarding pool time (11-8), fitness center time (24hr!), and best door to park next to closest to my room. Very easy walk in and upstairs to my room from lot. He had asked me to wait a few minutes, as he entered the clean rooms into the system, and was very attentive when finished. I had room 233, which was towards the back, and faced the parking lot and hotel next door. I could not hear highway noise from inside room. Room was renovated, clean, comfortable, fairly roomy, and nicely renovated. There was plenty of lighting, fridge worked great, everything worked, and was clean! I liked the beach/nautical decor and furniture, very appropriate for its market, and nicely done! I LOVE Balcony rooms, and the door was so quiet and smooth to open/close, the easiest/nicest I have ever seen, and I liked the chairs outside, that went with the beachy theme. My room also had a large jetted tub in the bathroom, which was also the shower, and the tub worked well, and was enjoyable! There was never any shortage of hot water and the water pressure was excellent! The paint job in the bathroom wasn't the best, as whoever painted the teal color, tapped the mirror and ceiling with the brush! Love the two sinks and closet area though by the door! I got to enjoy the large heated indoor pool all to myself for an hour on Monday afternoon. The pool was pretty clean but it may have been a bit too chlorinated. I still feel stuffy from swimming. Only issues I had were found a long hair in sheet when checking the bed, otherwise clean. The shower was slow to drain, so I would be standing in water, just a few minutes into the shower. First night it was way busier and could sometimes hear noise from others. Second night it was a ghost town and I felt like I was alone in my back area of building which was nice and quiet! The first night the parking lot was pretty full, so if you arrive late on a busy night, it might be a bit tight, but someone could park at the next door hotel I suppose in a pinch. The backdoor had a key reader but was always unlocked. That doesn't really bother me much though. Check out, a different younger man was also friendly, and pleasant, as I asked about their pet policy (no longer fully pet friendly, but if you call, they typically allow smaller dogs like 25lbs and under). I got 10% off @ Mystic Diner too when using my key card! Went there both mornings for breakfast and it was excellent, friendly staff, quick food delivery, and delicious! Good value! So many restaurants near by and locked the old school shopping village across the street! I Will return to this hotel if staying in Mystic again! I definitely recommend this hotel to others, who are looking for a good VALUE, clean room, that is comfortable, and in working order. Even the beds are super comfortable and the best hotel pillows I have seen in a while too! Towels were pretty soft as well with no stains!…
Nobody at the reception desk, and when someone finally showed up he was so rude and insulting that we left and went to another hotel. At one point he actually tried to start a fight and wanted to go outside.
Room is ok, hallways smell musky. A little overpriced. Maybe because of the season. check in was easy, front desk very helpful. I would recommend room on second floor. That sliding door is a little creepy. Almost thought I was on an episode of Bates Motel.
