We visited Steamboat in March 2012. We stayed at the Phoenix for 1 week. Rented a 3 bed / 3 bath condo. The condo turned out to be just great. It was very roomy with lots of space for 6 people to feel confortable. The outside of these condos was recently renovated and looked fabulous. The inside of our condo was partially renovated with newer kitchen applicances and nice furniture in the living room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were not recently renovated, but the furniture and beds were in fine condition and comfortable. ( and I'm very picky about beds ) Them condo was pretty clean, but they could do better looking underneath the furniture. Our condo was quiet, nice for sleeping.

Pros: Just one block, an easy walk, to the base area and lifts. Shuttles are frequent, timely and friendly. The staff is friendly, Hot tubs and pool are in nice condition, clean and well kept. Nice common area with a pool table, albeit small. This is a quiet complex. Grills available near the pool area.

Cons: We ski frequently and at different resorts - the price of this condo was high. The staff was a little slow to respond to needs - probably not enough staff on site. There was a strong, weird odor in the stairwell, but this was not present inside the condo. Pool area closed at 10:00 pm, too early for us.

We are staying in unit #203. it is nicely furnished and clean. the kitchen is well stocked and has good appliances. The heated garage is super convenient - we leave all our ski gear including boots, warm ups, Etc in there when not skiing. the shuttle service is excellent - weve used it to go to town several times and never had to wait more than 5 minutes from the time we called. The hot tubs are nice and not crowded. we walk to the slopes-:less than 5 min walk to and you can ski out to just across the street.

The Phoenix exterior and unit 117 have been recently renovated. The 2 bedroom, 3 bath condo was very comfortable. Nicely decorated and well maintained. Kitchen has been updated. Love the king bed in the master suite. Beautiful master bathroom. Nice view of the gondola from the outdoor balcony. Gorgeous area. Love all the pine trees. Two outdoor hot tubs and a nice pool which were very clean. Nice exercise equipment in main building along with a sauna. Great hiking on and off mountain. Cool Yampa River walk through town. Free buses. Very friendly western town with cowboys. We will definitely pick this location and unit again.

We stayed in Unit 220. The unit appears to have been furnished by the salvation army when the building was first built a few decades ago. The sofa is worn so the pattern is no longer visible and in many areas you can see the stuffing. I had to put a blanket over it. The same goes for the side chair which not only was scraped and worn in all places with the seat itself completely broken. The table is so scratched it wouldn't even be acceptable in a college dorm. The kitchen smelled heavily of fish. There was little bedding but plentiful old comforters in torn trash bags in every closet. The lamp shade in the master was slashed. The lamp in the living room was bent at a 30 degree angle. The TV was an old tube TV. The bedrooms were decent but much of the bedding appeared stained and it was clear the comforters did not get washed. The master was very dark even during the day. We had to use our phone flashlight to get dressed.
I asked for a transfer immediately making it clear this was unacceptable. I spoke to the front desk who was indifferent, the local Vacasa rep and the national rep. I sent pictures and spent hours on the phone along with text messages and an email. Making this process difficult was the poor cell phone reception. No one responded until after we left saying they would contact the local office. That was the only correspondence I ever received. We spent over 10,000 dollars on this week which could have refurnished this entire unit.... So much wasted potential. I feel incredibly cheated. I have never complained about a unit nor written such a review, but I felt compelled to save the next renter.

On a positive note, the property itself was reasonable with great proximity to the slopes and restaurants. There was a small game room with a pool table and coffee as well as a sauna, pool and jacuzzi the kids enjoyed. There is a tiny hill the kids used to sled behind the pool. The shuttle service was also nice.

I added photos linked to the property with title unit 220

My family and I booked at the Phoenix - Apartment P121 for 4-11 Jan 15 on the 30 Aug 14, through "Mountain Resorts" property management company. I received a booking confirmation report back and a significant deposit was also taken by the property management company. To my way of thinking that essentially established an agreement or contract between our two parties. Anyway, this morning we received advice from Kelly Lansford, Director Of Vacation Sales Center, Group Sales Coordinator at Mountain Resorts advising they can no longer honor the contract with us for that apartment as the owner of property P121 has decided that they now wish to vacation at Steamboat on that date.

- First of all I believe this is a significant breach of contract;
- Secondly it is just not honorable or the morally correct thing to do.

Our family had specifically chosen that apartment due to its location, recent internal renovations and reasonable price and we had made travel bookings all the way from Australia around the dates that we booked P121 for. Whilst Mountain Resorts has offered two alternate apartments and a very slight discount, by comparison the apartments offered are substandard and the discount offered off the price we booked P121 for is still overpriced for the alternate properties offered.

My strong recommendation is do not book through Mountain Resorts Property Management Company and do not book Phoenix Apartment P121 as there is a reasonable chance your booking will not be honored.

We used Interval International vacation point to stay in this efficiency room condo and left after two nights. The check-in staffer was unfriendly and condescending not wanting to be bothered with questions. When we found our unit, parking was very cramped for larger vehicles. We learned all to quickly this was to be our view from our room as well. The carpets were stained and dirty in the hallways, and the stairs were cement with worn treads. Our room was clean but not as described. We had a queen bed not a king. The bathroom was TINY! We had to step behind the toilet to shut the bathroom door. The bathroom sink was next to the small bar sink in the kitchen. The refrigerator was a small dorm room type that did not get very cold. The room was hot and staff did not have any fans available. We did need to call maintenance to come shut off a buzzer that was going off every 50 seconds for over an hour and our sliding door would not lock. They did come relatively quickly and the problem with the buzzer was resolved but not with the sliding door. Long story short -- stay somewhere else.

As a rule, I am not a complainer....this will count as the first time that I have ever written a negative review on anything.

My daughter's shoes (which she had placed in a specific location) went missing after cleaning services. Upon searching the unit from top to bottom and getting on my hands and knees and looking under the furniture, it came to my attention how simply dirty and dusty the carpet felt and the collection of left over trash under the furniture...it just felt absolutely gross !
This disturbing observation even made me question if the bedsheets had ever been
changed ?!
The unit is also rundown. For example..(1) the glass shower doors are hanging be a thread and would dislodge and (2) the heavy wooden curtain rod in one room collapsed and almost hit my head as I was carefully drawing the curtains...these are huge safety factors.
Needless to say we will not be making reservations here.
Incidentally, we never did locate the missing shoes after cleaning services.

Response from Amy W, General Manager at The Phoenix at Steamboat
Responded 30 Mar 2014
I'm so sorry you had a bad experience during your recent visit. It is certainly not our aim and it looks like we fell short this time. I received the email about missing shoes and requested housekeeping try to find them, but they weren't able to locate them. And I also apologize that you found debris under the furniture, although I can assure you the sheets are indeed changed between every guest. I will speak with our housekeeping supervisor this week about your experience. I looked into the maintenance items you mentioned and it looks like we were able to fix the curtain rod, thank you for calling that in, but I don't see a mention of the shower doors, so I will let maintnenace know right away to take care of those as well. I do hope you'll give us another chance in the future and if you'd like to call me personally I will ensure you are in a more modern room to your liking. For how much this place costs I at least expect comfortable mattresses, the beds felt like they were 20 years old! Everyone in my family was exhausted by the end of the trip because of the terrible sleeping situation. The location was good and the rest of the condo was ok. Again, for the price I really think some upgrading is in order.

I was booked at the Phoenix (Jan 7-14 '06)by my brother and was disappointed to find out we had to lug our equipment accross the street then down a path to the lifts. But the the place was great. These are privately owned units, so they are well kept. I was able to look into about 5-6 units and all had very nice decor with a balcony. We had a huge 4 bedroom/4bath-sleeps 10 w/ fireplace, in-unit wash/dryer, complete kitchen plus a kitchen-ette in the lower bedroom. The pool is outdoors but it's heated yr round plus 2 large hot tubs. We even had a 1 car garage. Fresh towels daily. Very nice clubhouse with Wi-Fi and a computer if you didn't bring yours. Plus skiing was the best I'v had in years! Oh, lots of stairs too, so be prepared.

You can walk across the street and cut up through the buildings to the base area of Steamboat Springs Ski Resort. Or, catch a bus to the base.
This is my second stay at these condos and each has been a pleasant visit. Our condos had three bedrooms and bathrooms, full kitchen, dining room and living room Everything was complete for what we needed in lodging, cooking and relaxing.
I can definitely recommend this for a family or group of friends. Be prepared for stairs as these are three story condos and the third floor condos have two floors. After a full day of skiing the stairs can get a little old.
Otherwise, I'll be back again when given the opportunity.
