Maxwell Anderson Hotel garners appreciation for its prime location, nestled close to downtown attractions and dining options, which guests find highly convenient. The establishment's atmosphere blends historical allure with contemporary comfort, creating a unique experience. However, opinions on service are split, with commendations for friendly staff tempered by critiques of housekeeping and sporadic slow service. While the hotel's cleanliness is commonly praised, some reviewers are disappointed by the value, citing amenity issues and unexpected costs. Room experiences vary, with cozy, clean accommodations sometimes marred by size and noise concerns.

This is our second time staying at this hotel. The first time (a year ago) the hotel was under renovation and this time we got to enjoy the completeness! The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable yet maintain some of the historic charm. The lobby area is stunning. All the decor details are interesting and beautiful and the lobby was very comfortable for hanging and playing games.

Overall, a very nice experience. The location is fantastic and can’t be beat, the decor and ambiance are fun and carry an aura of chic nostalgia. Bed was comfortable and room size decent for what we expected. Would probably stay again but might consider less expensive alternatives.

Parking is $20 per night in an off site (but close) lot. Would be nice if this could be tied to room key instead of having a separate paper ticket to hold on to.

Housekeeping service could be improved. I think it is reasonable to expect daily trash removal, change of towels, and replacement of toiletries/used cups/mugs without having to ask especially for a $300+ room rate.

New name - used to be Hotel Denver which was a bit confusing because of the Hotel Colorado being across the river.
New decor & redo of the lobby - but they did keep quite a lot of the memorabilia. The change is ok. I’m sure I was just partial to the old style. This is nice.
Same great service and friendly staff!

They no longer provide towels to take to the Hot Springs but will allow you to take room towels - just return them to your room.

Good location to walk to several restaurants and can walk to the Glenwood Hot Springs.

$20/night for off street parking.

Highly recommend!

We have stayed at Hotel Denver many times but we will never be back to Lack well Anderson. First I must say front desk staff is great and everyone is friendly. Unfortunately that is where the good news ends the new bed are the worst I have ever slept in and I go camping. I was awoken around 3 AM each night with horrible back pain. If you are planning to stay here bring a blowup mattress ( I’m buying one for tonight ). Also while I do like the new chest of drawers the room with a king size bed has only one chair. It also lacks the amenities found in other hotels such as a Motel 6 or a Best Western such as a microwave, safe, and hot water. Yes no hot water Luke warm showers that are temped at best. Also be aware that there always seems to be heavy construction going on every time we come not the hotels fault but be prepared when you make a reservation they won’t warn you about it.
It is overly apparent that the new owners wanted to update lobby clean it up so they could change more but skipped following through on true info structure like getting rooms hot water and not buying a decent mattress. I would say polishing a trude but Hotel Denver was great before the new owners screwed it up. Could have fixed the hot water problem new paint and the place would have been better then it is now.

David, it is concerning that your recent experience did not meet your expectations. The feedback about the room amenities and bed comfort is valuable and will be reviewed internally. The team is pleased to hear the front desk colleagues made a positive impression. Construction in the area can be an unexpected burden, and your input on various room aspects is noted. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I was hopeful for a pleasant weekend getaway but was simply underwhelmed. I was “…upgraded…” to a street view room which was noisy and had a small dated bathroom. We got woken up at 4:30 by thumping music. Cheap hotels have better towels. One staff member deliberately ignored my simple request for new towels. The rest of the staff were friendly. Frankly, it’s an average hotel with near premium prices.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's great to hear that most of the team members made you feel welcome. The experience with noise and room amenities is certainly not what the hotel strives for. The feedback on pricing and room necessities is valuable, and the hotel continually looks for ways to improve.

We booked one of the king boutique rooms on the 3rd floor with the big windows and high ceilings, and were truly impressed. The room assigned provided a wonderful view of the mountains, river, and nearby tourist attractions. It was super comfortable and updated with a nostalgic feel with the old brick wall and older feeling (yet still modern) bathroom.

Arriving by Amtrak, it was super easy to just walk across the street to check in. It feels like a boutique hotel with lots of history preserved to be enjoyed in the lobby areas.

Parking was weird. You could park on the street for free after 5 p.m. according to the check-in desk (signs said 6 p.m.) but it was hard to find a spot and know it was acceptable. We chose instead to pay $20 to park in one of the hotel parking lots, just at the end of the block and across the street. It felt better having the vehicle secured there, and several others did the same thing, but it was a very dark lot after sunset and there were no lights.

It was very easy to walk to restaurants and the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. The hotel desk sold tickets to the pool and provided towels.

Only stayed one night, but it was a great experience. Would definitely return.

We really enjoyed the Hotel Denver. The lobby of the hotel is currently being renovated, supposed to be done in April, so when we walked in the front desk was just a table in a construction area, but Journey was so friendly and immediately put us at ease. And in a month the new lobby and additional rooms should be done and sound very nice. There's a rate that includes the hot springs for less than you'd pay there, and also a senior discount if you call and ask for it. The larger king rooms are very spacious, just remodeled bathrooms and very comfortable bed. We had one facing the river and it was quiet too. We love the location: walking distance to everything (restaurants, book store, hiking, hot springs), excellent coffee shop on first floor (homemade breakfast burritos, excellent coffee, very friendly baristas), and also the small boutique Mona Lisa (gorgeous women's and baby clothes and the owner Lisa will help you find just the right things for you). The Hotel Denver is now our go to place in Glenwood.

We were given a room on the first floor, part of the new addition area. While the room was large and nicely appointed, there were several drawbacks. First, there was a loud, barking/whining dog next door. It eventually quieted down but it was less than desirable to begin our trip. Next, we were street level with a large window that wasn't one-way glass. Unless you wanted people seeing in, you couldn't open the curtains for natural light. Then, the heat kicked on and was so very noisy. It was disruptive to sleep, as well. I've never experienced an HVAC system that loud even in a cheap motel. Finally, we shared a duct/vent with the room next door (with the dog) and it's occupants had friends over who were all very loud. I know that how loud people are isn't the hotel's issue but the fact that they were easily heard is annoying at a place of this price point. Front desk staff was helpful as they went to the room to request some consideration with their volume but she ended up "outing" us as the complainant and therefore the occupants of the room chose to yell some profanity outside our door and knock loudly on it at 11 pm to express their displeasure. A more general approach from front desk would have been better.
However, our request to move rooms for our 2nd night was granted so I give them kudos for that part.

A7668AJrachelp, your feedback is appreciated and noted. It seems the noise disturbances were quite an inconvenience during your stay. Although out of our control, noise levels can certainly impact one's comfort, and the situation with the room next door was unfortunate. The team took steps to assist with your requests and is pleased to hear their help in moving rooms was appreciated. Your insights regarding communication methods will be taken into consideration.

We were on a Rocky Mountaineer tour from Denver to Moab which stopped in Glenwood Springs. Hotel is right across street from the train depot which was great for an early morning departure. Room (316) was very small as was the bath. Two people could not pass between bed and desk. It is very quaint, wood floor slopes, low water pressure in shower and only soap is hand bar soap. Staff is very friendly and helpful on dinner suggestions.

Enjoyed a one night stay during a recent road trip. This place was overall a nice stay but had a few little negatives.

Positives:

Great location in town

Charming room with exposed brick

Clean and comfortable room and bed

Great brewpub in the same building, just walk 10 steps through the lobby and you’re there. Our waitress Alicia was the one friendly person we encountered here. She also gave us great tips on what to see in Glenwood Springs.

Negatives:

Front desk lady had zero personality. She should really try smiling and greeting guests. She was just standing there until I finally asked if she could check me in. I felt like I was inconveniencing her to do her job. If you really don’t like to check people into a hotel, then maybe you shouldn’t work at a front desk of a hotel. Just a thought.

Parking is $20, so I parked on the street for free

Coffee place downstairs took forever. Those ladies were busy and working hard, but also kind of unfriendly as well. They did seem to care about getting out orders, and they did their best it seems. Took close to 40 mins for two lattes and a cinnamon roll.

Overall this place would be 5 stars if the staff were more welcoming.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. If you want convenience or to avoid the weather, give it a shot. We are there in October and found the food average and adequate but not special. Glenwood Springs is small, and you can walk to 15 other restaurants in under 5 minutes.

Is there an extra charge for pets in the room??
Answer from Roxie M
We are a very pet friendly hotel and do not charge a fee when traveling with your furry companions. We have a policy sheet for you to review and register your pup upon you arrival. Most of the Hotel is pet friendly with only a few rooms/sections that don't allow pets. Feel free to call the hotel: 800.826.8820 to ensure you have booked a pet friendly room, as we do like to know and collect the pets name to ensure they feel welcome while staying here with us also.

I have allergies to dogs. Do you offer pet free rooms?
Answer from Roxie M
We have accommodations to support everyone's needs. We have a variety of pet free offerings: Our Denver Rooms are 100% PET FREE and are in our Eastern Side of the Hotel. These rooms offer a single queen or single King Size bed in the room. We also have 2 of our Colorado Rooms that are Pet Free, and also added a new Ground Floor of 5 rooms all a little different that are Pet Free as well. We highly recommend calling us to make your reservation as the more knowledge we have we are then better able to cherry pick the perfect room for you and your traveling companions. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you plan your next escape from reality!
