I was stranded in Glenwood Springs following flight cancellations at Aspen Airport. Enterprise Car Rentals were unable to fulfill a confirmed booking at 8am on 5 April 23. The reception lady at this IHG hotel (Alessia) just across the road from Enterprise offices provided exceptional help. I am a long standing IHG Loyalty member and Alessia a fine example of US and IHG hospitality. The Enterprise employee across the road could learn a lot from Alessia.

We arrived in town on a Saturday afternoon and when it came time to check into our hotel, we ran into a bit of a hiccup checking in. I had booked through a discount service we have with my job and the front desk clerk, Blanca, told us that our room was ready and they had the reservation, but the card the company gave them was declining. She told us how to contact who we needed to call and what information we needed to get for her to check us in, and she even talked to them for us at one point - all after telling us she was new to the hotel. She did an amazing job and after we got things sorted out, she found a way to put my card on file so we weren't stranded in the lobby and she checked us into our room. I hope the management finds a way to retain her because she did a great job and was really on her game under pressure. For being a new employee, I was impressed.

Aside from that, I found the hotel itself to be really nice for the price we paid. The room was clean, the bathroom was big, and the location to the downtown area and hot springs resort is really convenient. The free breakfast in the morning is a nice touch too and the food options available were good enough to get you started in the morning. The only negative feedback I have is the walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbor pretty much at all times. We had really loud neighbors, so that was annoying. We also were placed in an ADA compliant room and the way it was setup was a bit odd. There was no tub, just a shower, and when the bathroom door was open it blocked the rest of the room. It was hard even for us to squeeze between the wall and the open door, so we kept the bathroom closed the whole time we were there. Other than that, I have no complaints!

Once again, the Holiday Inn Express did not disappoint at this beautiful location in Glenwood Springs. The hotel was easy to find and was accessible to many restaurants and nightlife by walking distance. The room was clean and modern, keeping up with the rest of Holiday Inn Express’s other locations. The service was fast and friendly, there was plenty of parking, and the price was just right for a mid-range hotel at about $110 for the night I stayed. If you are like me and rely on Holiday Inn Express for a clean and affordable night stay or extended stay, this location checks all the marks.

We walked into this hotel for Thanksgiving break 2023 and were quoted a rate of $129.60 for two nights by front desk manager Alicia. After check in, we learned the pool was closed but we could go to an adjacent property to use theirs. That pool was full of green algae! That evening, we discovered several things wrong with the room including a stain on the bathroom wall (blood?), hair scrunchie wrapped around the smoke detector, and a general run down condition. That evening, someone decided to grill a thanksgiving meal on a charcoal grill right outside our room and the intake to the AC and heating unit. The room quickly became filled with charcoal lighter fumes. We requested another room but that room was also run down including a broken toilet paper holder (screw pulling out from wall), and a chipped toilet seat which someone had tried to cover in places with paint! Upon checkout, we were charged $129.60 for the first night but $165.60 for the second night! We complained about this as well asl the room conditions to Alicia who only gave us a $10 credit and said we would hear from management. Despite numerous calls and faxes, that response didn't come from months until around February when general manager Scott Bourne wrote. He allowed a $50 to compensate us for the rates which was no where near sufficient to compensate for the closed pool, inconvenience of having to switch rooms because of charcoal lighter fumes, dirty shower walls, unsafe smoke detector, and ripped toilet paper holder. This hotel has not delivered on promised and advertised services not adhered to high standards of Holiday Inn. Scott Bourne offered some rewards points towards future stays but we told him we don't travel much and will not stay, nor will we stay in a holiday inn express again, so those points are worthless to us. We are still requesting full refund for this stay and hope the management can provide for that so we can at least change our review to reflect they made this right.

Hello, I'm a new manager that started in March and neither Scott, nor Alicia, work for the hotel anymore. I'm sorry to hear this happened. As far as the pool next door, that's not algae, the pool is just painted an ugly green. The lighting just makes it looks even worse. Getting it resurfaced is one of the highest things on my Capital improvement requests. But the water is very clean and we test it every single day. As for the room conditions, I'm sorry to hear about that. No excuses for any of that. I can't barter any deals for you to change your review, but if you'd like to discuss a discounted stay on your next trip into Glenwood, I'd be happy to discuss that and make sure everything was perfect for you. I wish you a great finish to this summer!!

On Monday 07/22/24 we reserved a handicap room with a walk-in shower. Upon arriving at the hotel, the front door stated that the room was ready. When entering the room, the room had not been cleaned. Notifying the front desk of the issue, they attempted to change us to another supposedly handicap room. Inspecting the room, it wasn’t handicap.
Being an IHG member, I Called corporate and explained this issue. I shared the issue and requested that I be complimented for the night. They shared that my room would be complimented and they contacted the hotel immediately.
After the front desk received the call from a corporation, they shared that it would take about an hour to have the room ready. Furthermore, the manager stated that he would not compliment my room even after corporate stated they would.
During my call with corporate, I shared that when the hotel attempted to give us another room that supposedly was not handicapped, they violated the ADA Act.
A week later, I noticed that the hotel did charge my credit card. Contacted the corporate office, and they reversed their decision on not charging my credit card. Instead, they issue reward points. During my conversation with corporate, I shared that the hotel had violated the ADA Act. The Customer Service person attempted to debate the ADA Act violation. I asked if this conversion was being recorded which they acknowledged. I had them agree that in fact, the hotel manager did violate the ADA Act when he attempted to place us in a supposedly handicap room.
I have closed my IHG membership and will never stay in the IHG group hotels.
If you are a handicapped person staying at the IHG group hotel be advised to ensure that you receive and handicapped room and not some other room.
A very disappointed IHG member.

Hotel is newer, but poorly maintained. USB outlets in room didn’t work, door did not latch properly, shower curtain in room too short to keep bathroom floor from flooding. Mirror light flickers. There is a nightlight in the room that cannot be turned off. BREAKFAST: Horrible. Terrible. The oatmeal was swimming in a bath of water. The instant pancakes were simply gross. The bowl of bananas contained only bananas that were both green and also rotting. We tried an orange, that was also rotting on the inside. Little egg omelettes are hard and gross. My bagel was as hard as if it had been in the sun for two weeks. The coffee was rather bitter. I could not get pepper to come out of a shaker so I tapped the bottom a bit and the shaker shattered, leaving a healthy dose of pepper all over the table. SERVICE: I reported maintenance items with the front desk and asked for them to be corrected while we were away from the hotel. Upon returning to the hotel, I noticed that not one thing had been done. Not surprising since the girl at the front desk spent all her time watching videos about how to apply make up, and I saw two of them in the back room, giving each other make up lessons. Not exactly what a person should be doing paid to be at the front desk of the hotel.

We will be eating in town tomorrow for breakfast. I can’t believe how bad this is.

This hotel should not carry the Holiday Inn name. It’s an embarrassment to the other good hotels in the chain. Anyone from IHG listening?

My advice? Stay anywhere else, avoid this location.

Having stayed at the Holiday Inn Express 501 West 1st Street, Glenwood Springs, CO, 81601 on Saturday, July 8th, I was beyond disappointed. I specifically stayed here knowing the property had both a pool and hot tub.

Upon entering the pool area, I wanted to put my things down, but noticed the layers of dirt on the chairs, and tables. After finding the hot tub controls, which are nowhere near the building, I jumped into a hot tub that was loaded with bugs. Disgusted, I thought I would take a swim only to find bugs and other debris floating in the pool. Having decided this will not work out, I looked for a towel only to find an empty towel rack.

Any of these issues on their own would be explainable. However, having paid over $400 for the night, I was not happy to see a front desk clerk in the office on their cell phone with no concern over any of these issues. Cleaning a pool, hot tub, or bringing towels only takes a few minutes. The chairs are another story, as it was obvious that maintenance was simply ignoring cleaning these at all.

I have had many great experiences with Holiday Inn Express. This tells me that this is an issue with this specific property and its personnel. Glenwood is a great town, just stay elsewhere.

We checked in well after 4pm and were informed our room wasn’t ready, so we were placed in a different room. Upon walking into the room, we were hit with a stinky smell or past smoke or something gross. I tried calling the front desk but the phone didn’t work, so I walked there in person. The front desk lady didn’t care about the smell. Returned to the room to find there was no toilet paper, so went back to the front desk to get some. I also ended up wiping down the room with Clorox wipes myself because at that point I questioned if the room was actually cleaned or not. We aired out the room a bit while we went downtown for dinner, came back and went to sleep. Got up the next morning to see there was no coffee or tea left in our room. Got some at breakfast and went about our day. The next day, at breakfast, there was a hair hanging from the handle of one of the food warmer trays. Our room was also never cleaned the second day. After checking out, my husband and I had a conversation about having throat irritation only while in that room. It was either from the gross smoke smell or there is a mold/water issue somewhere. Even though this is a “budget” hotel, it is still expensive and you expect a bit more for what you are paying. I know everyone in the industry is struggling, but that’s not the best excuse to give your guests a bad experience.

Our car suffered a blown out tire traveling Westbound through Glenwood Canyon and we were stranded overnight due to the availability of the type of tire we needed. The staff at the Holiday Inn Express in Glenwood Springs were so helpful and supportive, and made what could have been a stressful experience into a relaxing and enjoyable evening. We will definitely stay here again (hopefully without the excitement of driving on a flat tire for six miles). The room was clean and fresh, and they had devised a very clever method of serving a hot breakfast instead of just the prepacked muffins and cereals like other hotels. We really appreciated the entire experience. Thank you Angela and the rest of the staff! You are all amazing!!! 10 stars!!!

It’s close to a number of activities. The shower and toilet are in their own room allowing the sink to be available to everyone. There is a full size mirror and nice lighting around the sink mirror. The refrigerator is large, there is a kuerig. However, the mattress is in dire need of replacement, the comforter/duvet was terrible, the blanket inside bunches up at the bottom and then just falls out of the cover. There is no maid service unless you request it, which means no coffee and cup replacements and we were only given one of each towel size, it was not easy to get more towels. The tv has no guide, so you don’t know what’s on or when. There are no Netflix or premium channel options, no movies to rent. There are little black bugs everywhere, but I think it’s just common for the area and time of year. We got the room right next to the elevator, but did not hear it. The pillows are as old as the mattress and very uncomfortable. The breakfast was acceptable. The staff was friendly. There was only one trash can in the room and since there is no regular cleaning, you have to bring your own trash bags and take it with you. Or just let it pile up on the floor. I would not stay here again. I stayed for 3 nights.
