DO NOT STAY HERE! If I could give 0 stars I would! They charged me $250 for a room with a full size bed and a roll away bed which I had to pay an extra $35 for. The most ridiculous thing is that the hotel manager had me and my friend follow him around the property to find a roll away bed for 10 minutes with no avail. When the roll away bed was found WE the guests had to carry the bed to our room ourselves. This is completely unheard of to charge people extra money for a roll away and have the guests carry it to the room. To make matters worse the manager didn't provide us sheets or blankets to cover the roll away until being asked 3 times. We then had to set up the roll away bed ourselves while the manager simply stood there and watched and didn't offer a hand. Not only was the experience with the roll away bed horrible, but the room was even worse! The carpet was covered in this sticky and glossy substance and the cabinets were filled with trash, dirt and dust. Clearly hadn't been cleaned in months if not years. The restroom had a horrendously loud fan and the tiles above the shower were molding. The walls all around the room were also marked up with the paint chipping off. Finally, breakfast was promised at 7:30am the next day and that was the one thing we thought they couldn't screw up. Of course they managed to screw that up as well as when we arrived at 7:45am for breakfast we were told we had to wait another 15 minutes which we didn't have. The only reason we stayed at the place was because we just needed a place to crash for the night on New Years and other hotels were all fully booked and we didn't want to have to sleep in the car. Although after our stay it was probably a better option to sleep in the car and save $250.

If you are going to Sonora, California or just need a night or longer to stay I recommend the Gun House Hotel. The rooms are clean, warm and very comfortable. Our shower had hot water amazingly fast. We stayed two nights and enjoyed our stay and the hotel is in walking distance to everything. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The morning breakfast is filling.

This property has some nice touches that you might not expect from an economy option. There is some historical decor on the lower level, nice verandah that wraps around the bulk of the property, a breakfast room and a small pool. Our room was a backside upper level (would recommend as the main street in front is extremely busy and often congested). It had a bit of decor, lots of blue. A "library theme". Yes it is true that while some of the vibe is an older / historic building - which is fine - some small updates are needed. A few cosmetic blemishes, knobs, etc. One thing that needed attention in our room was the bedside lamp which had no on or off switch, so we had to unplug it. But it's small stuff overall. They showed pride of property in the pool gardens and the historic lower level displays. so that was nice. I get the sense that the rooms are quite different here. Some appear as though they would be very dark as they are recessed or on the low level. Some are very open and bright. So do note your preferences if you book. Overall please recognize that in terms of Sonora this is maybe more of a budget option. But it is really pretty solid , and I would stay here again and recommend to others.

We stopped here overnight on the way to the Eastern Sierra. Old and outdated, the rooms were nonetheless clean and comfortable. The pool was just with our kids needed, and breakfast Included a homemade cheesy egg dish and little muffins - a pleasant surprise! We will definitely stop here again.

I booked a "back queen" room, as shown in photo below. Room we got had no natural light, was damp, smelled liked mold, had exposed rough tile into the bathroom, stains on the carpet. Rattly air conditioner, darkened glass on door and windows allow no natural light through. Apparently they won't guarantee your room type if you book through their website. I was told that I should have called to guarantee that I'd get the type of room I booked. Luckily we were able to change rooms after one night, which made a huge difference, so it really depends on the room you get. Pool is nice and there's a nice breakfast every morning. It's difficult to reach any staff during the day--the office is unstaffed for hours at a time, no one answers the phone, even texting the manager gets no reply.
