Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This hotel survives on its location which is really good, being a stones throw from the beach and a short walk to the pier. However, I really can't find anything else to praise it for, even the reception staff were less than enthusiastic.
The rooms were just OK, nothing special just functional, rather small and could probably do with a face lift. You really had to search out places for breakfast as well so nothing was handy. Parking was also a pain with confusing meters and the need to move the car around unless you paid the hotel $30 a day which is rather pricey. Talking of which, the rooms are, in my opinion, poor value for money but I guess you are paying for the location.
Would I go back?
Nope, sorry but I wouldnt.

Stayed here for 1 night and it was a great location. A short and fun walk from the hotel, passing by the famous muscle beach and onto the Santa Monica pier. The room itself was small (we got the 1 queen) but we didnt need a large space. Bathroom was clean but there was no shelf for toiletries (shampoo, soap). Had to either put on the shower floor or we just slid the door open and put them in the sink. There was a closet with shelves and little mini fridge, a small desk and tv that had plenty of channels. We encountered 2 staff members and both were friendly and helpful. Beach towels and chairs are provided but no bag like the description states. There are a few snacks and beverages including beer available for purchase when the front desk is open.

1 star removed for the location of the heater/ac in proximity to the bed. The unit is located under the window and there is no way to direct the fan. It will blow on whoever is sleeping on that side of the bed and some might think it's nice but when the weather is 100+ and the ac is blowing only 2ft away directly at your face, it is becomes not nice really quickly. I was able to redirect the air by tying a towel to the curtain and securing the other end to the night stand. Wasn't pretty but it did the job!

Please note that there is a parking fee between $30-35 and the lot is small so if it is full, it may take some manuevering to get in and out. (I have a mid-size car and there was a large truck and an dull size suv to my side and in front of my space). There is plenty of metered parking around the hotel that can also be utilized.

Bayside is a small older motel located directly across the street from the beach. Our room (201) had a great view and was clean. The bathroom was big, with a terrific shower. However, the toilet seat needs replacing as it was very cheap plastic and low to the floor. In the room there was a small closet, safe, refrigerator, desk and decent bed. Outside the door, on the balcony are tables and chairs—although not private, do provide an extra space to relax. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. We arrived very early and they held our luggage in the tiny lobby until check in later in the day.
I choose this motel for the location and price. It is a nice 10-15 minute walk to Santa Monica Pier and the downtown area. It’s also fairly close to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

We were doing a larger stay in California from the UK, and could not have been happier to stay at this little gem as part of our trip.

We were coming in late from Disneyland, and an earlier in the evening call reassured us we would be fine to check in later in the night. We arrived just before Midnight and were met in the car park by the front desk staff, who offered help with our bags. He let us know since he saw us pull in he wanted to save us a walk around to the front desk, which was very kind after such a long day. The staff was also very nice on check in and when we needed some help the next day.

The hotel is a motel, but I already knew that from the reviews. TWe had a room on the second floor which had fantastic view, and was very nice. The bed was fantastic, and the shower head was nice with excellent water pressure, again after doing long days of walking it was a nice treat. The hotel had nice quality toiletries available and did not feel like the room lacked anything that we needed. Everything was very clean and the location was hard to beat. Some noise outside from people coming and going in the morning, but honestly we found that at most places we stayed.

I would definitely say out of our whole visit at 5 different hotels, I would say the Bayside was the nicest in regards to staff, room cleanliness and location. I picked this hotel from the reviews and was definitely not disappointed. Would definitely love to come back, if ever we are in the area again.

Good location close to Santa Monica Pier. Very unhappy to have paid >$300 for a hotel my wife wouldn't even shower in. Small room lacking amenities, price driven up by mostly high price alternatives close by. Ten nights in hotels on our CA trip, this one the worst by a mile. Parking in Santa Monica is not difficult so stay around LAX and drive there, in addition to Manhattan Beach which is fantastic with convenient parking.

Positive: clean bed and bath. You can take a parking space in the back yard for 28 USD, which is fine.
Happy I took a basic room and did not pat extra for the ocean view: I would then enjoy overlooking a street and seeing an ocean somewhere there, as the building is not very tall.

They did some restyling, I assume-not sure why they put a new nice flooring and left horrible carpet, which was not clean enough.

Fine for one night, but photos and descriptions are definitely misleading.

We stayed at the Bayside Hotel for a little weekend getaway from New York and where welcomed with the upmost friendliness one can expect. We were to early to check in but still were shown room options to ensure we will have the best experience. I believe the agent was George and had Greek roots. The room seemed recently renovated and was very clean. I run a 4 star hotel myself and was impressed by the professionalism and kindness every team member encountered us with. The free bike rental was such a welcomed surprise. Last the location was perfect. Close to the beach plenty of dining options around and easy to access without being in a noisy area. We ended up sleeping with open windows enjoying the ocean view while listening to the waves. Thank you Bayside Team

Great room, well appointed. Close to the beach and some brilliant restaurants. In fact just about spot on.

One problem, if you were the manager, responsible for organising upgrades to your rooms that would require heavy equipment, drills circular saws and all the tradesmen to complete the job, where is the last place you would book guests into a room?
That’s easy you say, next door, would be the last place you would put them right?
Apparently not!
From 8am we and the people on the other side of the renovating were subject to the above.
But I hear you say, it was probably busy, and there were no other rooms available . Well nope I didn’t see anyone else but our one over neighbours.
So why oh why would you so willingly put your guests next door?

It makes no sense at all, none.
So very disappointing. Our one night stay, our last one on this trip, totally overshadowed by someone’s poor choice. Startling, truly

Super well located hotel. But the understanding and structure leave a lot to be desired. I waited for half an hour to be served. The reception was left alone. But the gentleman who arrived treated me very well and was super helpful. I think there should have been one more person there because several customers arrived at the same time and he couldn't handle them all. The location of the hotel is fantastic.

Bright, friendly rooms. Clean and quiet. Staff were a bit reserved at first but after a while everything worked out. A few meters from the beach and the Santa Monica pier. Good Italian restaurant within walking distance.
Parking on site but $35 per day. There is also free parking in front of the hotel at certain times.

There is a small parking lot in back, I’m assuming enough for the rooms. I think it was $20 a day. There is parking on the street, but very difficult to acquire (especially on a weekend).
