Sweeping 180-degree marina views, private poolside cabana suites, a 3,500' private event lawn and that's only the beginning. Before Marina del Rey was Marina del Rey, the Marina del Rey Hotel was there. Over the past half-century, the marina's most classic waterfront hotel destination has served as the central meeting point for local yacht clubs, fashion shows, and high-profile Los Angeles functions. Once host to legends like Jacques Cousteau and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, all are invited to rediscover the Marina del Rey Hotel just in time for the 50th Anniversary of the marina. The all-new, 164-room Marina del Rey Hotel now boasts 4-star amenities set against the marina backdrop of yachts and aquatic adventurers.

The Marina Del Rey Hotel offers a dynamic atmosphere, featuring both vibrant live music and tranquil spots like the fire pits by the pool, though the charm is slightly tarnished by dated rooms for some. Guests frequently commend the prime location with its easy access to attractions and picturesque marina views. While the valet service receives applause, the front desk and restaurant services sometimes fall short of expectations. Cleanliness is generally upheld, yet housekeeping can be inconsistent. The amenities, including the pool, are highlights, although additional charges may affect the overall value for visitors.

Loved our time there. The room was very nice, great furnishings, the bed was marvelous, everything was sparking clean. The view of the marina was wonderful, the water was very soothing, the seal roaming aroud the waters was fun. Great hotel, great stay. Not a highbrow experience, simply a very good hotel in a great setting.

The view of the marina from my third floor room was as idyllic as the photos on their website. Fresh and clean room and a bed that I found really easy to fall to sleep in after a long day of meetings in their conference room, also providing a distracting vista during the not so exciting bits :-). Great shower and loads of towels to refresh oneself after a long day. I appreciated the storage space to keep the floor of my room clear of suitcases and other equipment. Id definitely choose it for my next visit to Los Angeles.

I’ve been to LA a few times in the last year and if I don’t have to stay downtown I always like to stay by Venice/Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey is right around the corner. The people there would do anything for you too! The moment you get to the hotel you are looked after, Paulyne greeted me with the warmest smile and went above and beyond despite my hectic schedule to make sure I had a great room and was even able to look after my bags whilst I was away from the city for a night. Dylan was also a true gent - refreshing for hotel staff to have a genuine passion for looking after their residents!

The hotel itself matches the people - overlooking the beautiful marina, spotless rooms with the most ridiculously comfortable bed... I don’t think you’ll ever have a better night sleep!

The pool and hot tub is open until 10pm too which is great for winding down at the end of a long day exploring... the highlight was seeing a shooting star on my last night from the jacuzzi!

You’ve got to stay here.

The hotel has a lovely view over the harbour, a pretty pool and a nice relaxation area if you want a drink in the evening. It is a short walk away from a number of shops and restaurants but at least half an hours walk from where the action is at. The outdoor space is nice but rooms are pretty basic. Unfortunately I was ill for four days (from the previous leg of the trip) meaning I was confined to my room for this time. The room service menu is really basic only about 6 dishes and as I am veggie this narrowed it down to two. Both these dishes were inedible and I had one bite and left it - I resorted eventually to Uber eats. Also there is nothing in the mini bar and they charge and extortionate amount to bring you a drink to your room by the time they’ve added on service. On my last night I was feeling a little better and decided to treat myself to one glass of wine. I got charged over 21 dollars! Some of the staff are really friendly others act like everything is too much trouble. When checking in my colleagues receptionist was really friendly telling her where everything was and timings. Mine told me nothing and when I asked for my luggage to be taken up to my room didn’t look particularly happy. On another occasion I politely asked for mustard and got a grunt and the silent treatment. On checking out I was asked how my stay was “some positives some negatives” I said. “Ok” was the reply! In summary an OK place to stay for maximum a few days and let’s hope you are not reliant on room service! I’m sure there are a million better places to stay in the area

First the good things; hotel's location is great and staff are friendly and very helpful.

On top of this, it has a lovely pool area, a little small perhaps but perfect for sunning yourself, taking a little dip and they offer full poolside service. The whole thing overlooks a beautiful marina too which makes it fantastic especially in the evenings.

The hotel offers valet parking and bike rental which is great for getting around the area (takes about 10-15 minutes to get to Venice).

Where the hotel disappointed was in the rooms. We stayed in a poolside double Queen and it was pretty cramped. The wardrobes are small and clunky and there's barely any room for suitcases.

There was no main light in there just lamps which makes it poorly lit at night and the bathroom is tiny. On top of this, there's no other area to get ready which makes it difficult for this to be a family room.

We ordered room service on our first night which was fine but when it turned up we realised we didn't have anywhere to actually eat it, there's an old desk on wheels which we moved and had to squeeze between the two beds.

The rest of the furniture was pretty tired in the room, drawers were as clunky as the wardrobe and the door covering the mini fridge didn't close properly.

We were asked about cleaning each day (post Covid measure means you can not have this should you wish) but the cleaning was only ok, some days they chose not to clear glasses / bins. And hoovering was clearly done around things.

Overall it was ok, but I wouldn't choose to go back

Having a son at LMU, the Marina Del Ray Hotel has been our “go to” ever since he enrolled there. We’ve had at least 10 stays over the last three years. This weekend may be the last.

My wife reserved a marina view room. At check in, the desk-clerk said they had an “event going on and it may be a little noisier than normal.” What was going on was an outdoor auction directly below the room. With amplified sound which started at 4:00 PM, it make the room almost unusable.

My wife wanted to sit on the deck and get in some work before going out to an evening event at LMU. It was so loud, she couldn’t hear herself think (work was impossible). So rather than enjoy the deck and the view, she was cooped up inside with the slider closed. Even then, it was impossible to think, let alone work.

After my wife complained at the front desk, the only accommodation they offered was a $50 credit at the restaurant. With plans on campus, it wouldn’t be possible to eat at the restaurant (which was closing early because of the auction). They suggested ordering some dessert for the evening, which they said they would leave in the room.

Well as you can guess, they never delivered it because no one was in the room to open the door and (of course) they were closed by the time my wife returned.

So, no compensation, no promised dessert, just another nonsensical “bad service due to Covid.” They claimed they don’t enter guest rooms without express permission (which of course had been given).

But it wasn’t just the unbearable noise and the never delivered apology dessert, it was the “I don’t give a damn” attitude of the front desk. In multiple interactions, it was clear they just didn’t care, no follow through, etc…

Of yeah… about that, blame everything on Covid, the room lacked adequate towels, had no glasses, and of course no housekeeping service.

Covid is simply an excuse service providers use to save money and let their guests suffer.

Beautiful hotel with some friendly hotel staff. The valet staff was fast, helpful, and friendly, as well as the front desk staff. Valet priced at $48/daily is a bit steep. As for the night staff, the man at the front desk was not so great. He yelled out to our kids who forgot their masks in the room, and said, “you come here!” and waved to hand them masks. There is always a better way to speak to people, he obviously needs the training.

The rooms were beautiful and clean, however, our suite smelled awful. Hopefully, they’ll invest in a better air filtration system and fragrance. We booked two rooms and the other one was fine. We had a great view with an extended balcony.

We walked over to the bar at Salt and the bartenders were less than accommodating. I waited a good 5 minutes to even be acknowledged and finally get my order in. I understand if restaurants are busy, but at least acknowledge your customers.

The pool was nice and warm, and not busy at all during the evening. The cabanas were nice and we dined poolside. Food was decent, not worth the price though.

Overall, we loved this hotel, but they definitely need to make some adjustments to staff and rooms.

The restaurant staff had no knowledge of the importance of Celiac Disease they told us to order the salad but " remove the croutons" and to order the "raw shrimp". We could not believe the lack of consideration and knowledge of Gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease. As for the rooms, the rooms were not appealing and carpeting in the room looked hundred years old. Whenever we walked out of our room there was trash bags from people leaving their trash outside the room door. I called the hotel prior to booking and they assured me that the restaurant was knowledgeable and had gluten free options, we looked at their photos and rooms looked presentable. Knowing what I know now, I would have never booked.

When we were checking in to the hotel we were informed that the hotel did not provide housekeeping services. We would have to make our own beds, use bath towels more than once, and clean the room ourselves. The front desk person said that this was due to Los Angeles COVID laws. It was a lie. We stayed at another hotel in Marina del Ray just the week before. They had valet parking and housekeeping services. After the front desk lie we went back to the same hotel and they still provide housekeeping services. The Marina del Ray Hotel has an extensive list of its COVID protocols on its website, but no where does it mention that they do not provide housekeeping services, and it was not mentioned at the time of booking. It is totally misleading and unethical. Obviously, they are using COVID as an excuse to cut services and reduce cost. They inappropriately blame their corporate actions on the government. We are happily staying at another hotel.

Response from Dylan Saladino, Guest Services / Front Office at Marina Del Rey Hotel

Hi John, Thank you for your review. We waived your cancellation fee free of charge for both rooms due to this information coming as a surprise to you. Our guidelines are not a county mandate, however, serve in accordance with the California Hotel Lodging Association. Our property is Clean & Safe certified via the association and as part of our certification, we are committed to each item they deem necessary to abide by the safest cleaning practices in our facility. This is all in alignment with the Safe Stay American Hotel Lodging Association program as well. That being said, there is always some flexibility here so please note that we do offer services for guests who are staying for more than three nights. Additionally, we are confident we could have came to an agreement despite your antipathy for our policy barring it not being publicly posted for you to know prior to your stay. We consistently aim to ensure our guests have the most comfortable experience with us as well as much information on out hotel as possible. That being said, majority of our guests find no issue with the aforementioned policy. Housekeeping is always at our guest's service and willingly deliver anything needed to our guest's rooms throughout their stay such as fresh towels or bathroom amenities. Nevertheless, we thank you for your feedback again. Cordially, Dylan Saladino Assistant Director of Front Office

Yuck! This hotel is awful. It looks great from the outside, but is not well maintained on the inside. Booked my dad here for a week during this holiday season.

In the hallway, on the way the room, there were about ten room service trays outside various rooms of meals that had been partially eaten and the kitchen hadn't come to pick them up yet. It was disgusting. Even one of the hotel employees knew it was awful and was on the phone with the kitchen trying to get the trays picked up.

Also, when we checked in, we were told that the room will not be cleaned everyday, in fact it won't be cleaned at all unless cleaning is requested 24 hours in advance.

Finally, when we entered the room it was disorderly. The lamps were crooked, the garbage can was in the middle of the entry hallway. It was sloppy.

The handles and glass in the shower had soap scum. The shower head was beyond disgusting.

He returned to the front desk to see about a different room and was told that they "would all be the same." He wasn't comfortable staying there, and the hotel said that they were going to charge him for the first night whether or not he stayed. We had Booking.com reach out to the hotel on our behalf to try to get the money back for the night that he didn't stay there, and the hotel never answered after 3 reach-out attempts over the course of the week.

The car park is overlooked by the rooms at the back of the hotel, we could see our car from our balcony, its a matter of 50 yards away. You will still be charged for valet, on occasions we just parked up and walked back to our room because the valet service was not that attentive.
