I've never posted a review before, but this was so good, I just had to.

If you want a great experience, stay here! You cannot ask for anyone better than Brian. He went out of his way to personally find a way to make me a cup of tea at 8 pm, recommended the perfect restaurant nearby, and even switched my room without a thought.

The decor was exactly what you want to wake up to, and linger within. You can easily do this with the complimentary coffee and pastries in the morning and happy hour in the evening. Great dining area, two outdoor spaces and overstuffed chairs to lounge in the lobby.

The bed was so comfortable and room so quiet I got my best sleep in months (100% sleep score according to my app). Housekeeping left everything spotless, even tidying the decorative books on the desk. Huge soaking tub and rainwater shower, too.

I found my place in LA!

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Palihotel Melrose. The location is fabulous- it's within walking distance of the best restaurants and shops in the Melrose Arts District. The hotel is clean and designed nicely. They make it convenient to park your car right there at the hotel, although there is a $25/night fee. The restaurant/bar in the hotel, Severence, is delicious-- highly recommend some wine and fondue! The staff were all very friendly and I would say this was one of my better experiences in LA. Highly recommend Palihotel Melrose!

Stayed at this hotel two nights . Problems began
with elevator out of operation for balance of stay
Hotel entrance has no ramp with several stairs
No hotel staff to aid with luggage. Sole desk clerk
Grudgingly hoisted luggage up flights of stairs for
70 year old guest

The fun was just beginning. Toilet would not flush
Two service visits left whirling dervish toilet still
not functioning. Only after raising voice with desk
clerk produced visit by maintenance person with
nessary plumbers snake. The first night found
guest sneaking across hallway to corridor toilet
in underwear to relieve himself.

The room is not functional. Nightstand will not
hold usual items such as wallet, room key, home keys etc. God help you if you wished to place
glass with drink there. Best option was placing
glass on bed and pray you didn't move too
rapidly

Room and hallways are dark, dark, dark. Bring
your flashlight to navigate common areas in
daytime.

Fun continues. Front desk was unmanned for
30 minutes with woman with crying baby seeking
room key and yours truly seeking maintainace
man with needed plumber's snake

Restaurant was bizarrely without an entrance
Unhelpful desk clerk offered breakfast comped
due to no elevator. Entered dining area with no
visible server finally ate elsewhere. Strange
menu highlighted by attempt to steer you to
50 dollar fondue setup

At check out new desk clerk asks about my stay
I summarized my tale of woe. He comped me
one night at least. Stated management would
contact me personally to discuss problems
personally. One week later no such contact

I have reviewed hotels all over the world on this
site. One of my worst hotel experiences ever
Do not stay here!

Dear Stanley I am deeply sorry to hear that your stay at Palihotel Melrose fell well short of expectations. The service we provide and the experiences of our guests is a source of personal pride for me, and similarly, of personal disappointment in the few cases where a guest leaves with negative conclusions about that service & their experience. We do appreciate your choosing to stay with us, as a guest of Palihotel Melrose, and have taken your feedback to heart to ensure we make improvements that continue to earn your patronage in the future. Unfortunately our elevator situation has been in the works with the company and we’ve instructed all our agents to gladly help anyone in need with their luggage I’m shocked to hear that was not the case during your visit. While I can't go back and change the way that we made you feel, I would love any opportunity to make it right and demonstrate how appreciative we truly are for your business, even if it did not show on this occasion. I tried reaching out via phone, unfortunately I believe I was given the wrong number. I will be reaching out via email hopefully we can have you satisfied again. Until then, have a wonderful end of your week. Kindest Regards,

Palihotel Melrose is charming in many ways: decorated with found art and photography, funky furniture, and book lined hallways (all the books are backwards) it's a mix of eclectic bordering on the Haunted House at Disney. There's an outdoor courtyard that's a lovely respite and place to drink coffee in the morning. The beds are super comfortable, there's plenty of hot water and even a full sized bathtub in the rooms. Everything was super clean. The location is fabulous and shopping/strolling up and down Melrose was great. Also don't miss Canter's down on Fairfax. Those are the pros. Some of the staff were exceptional, others couldn't solve issues and pretty much gave up trying. As for the rest: there were no drawers so we had to stack all our clothes on the lovely olive velvet couch. There was a ladder with hangers which took the place of a closet but honestly, that shouldn't be an option. The rooms have no phones and no temperature controls. Ours were so cold we had to go down to the front desk at 5am to have someone adjust things. Housekeeping was erratic - showed up close to 5 one day. The drain in our bathtub was disconnected. No body wash was in our tub even after we asked that it be filled back up. The water was $13 a bottle. The rooms and hallways were so dark it was hard to adjust to after LA sunshine. We had problems with the door lock in our first room which couldn't be resolved so we were moved to another room where the air conditioning didn't turn on which couldn't be resolved so we moved to a third room which fortunately was ok. Except for the middle of the night freeze. An onsite garage is great but you have to call the front desk to be buzzed in and there's not always someone there to answer. The restaurant had closed so only coffee was available in the morning, sometimes not even with milk. There was no water for our first 2 hours there. We were not the only ones with issues - overheard several people checking out who had similar temperature challenges. Overall this could be a wonderful destination but a whole bunch of quirks need to be ironed out.

SO where to start with this place. If you only read the first line then the conclusion is don't book to stay here.....
If you want to continue to learn why I came to this conclusion then read on. The main bad points are in no specific order, you can't control your own room temperature meaning the room is either freezing or too hot, there is no in between. There are about 7 lights all plugged into hard to get sockets to turn off and no central light. The wifi is so poor it can't handle simple zoom calls or general streaming. The Shower fills up the bath and you have to stand in dirty water. There is no way to get into the car park without phoning the front desk, usually I wouldn't mind but having a foreign number when I got my phone bill through this in total for the 4 days cost me around $20 in calls. I am not sure why they can't just put a coded opener on it or really use any other way around than this. And last but not least, they pump music into the reception from around 8.30am every morning so if its the weekend say and your room is anywhere near there your sleep in will most likely be interrupted.
Then there were the problems with my actual stay. The water went off for repairs between 5pm and 9.30pm one, day this usually wouldn't be too bad but one, they said it was only going to be 2 hours and two, it was right outside my room, so incessant was the noise I had to leave and go out, there is no other private area to go to in the hotel and the manager was most unhelpful with the situation. When I did return to get a on work zoom call at 9pm (not on their wifi obviously it can't handle that) I asked them politely to stop as they were 2 hours over and also it was 9pm..... I was rudely told that this wouldn't be possible. There was no breakfast at all when I was there. Black coffee was available in the mornings though when we asked for Milk or cream, the staff told us that the manager had left them no money to buy any and was gone until Tuesday, this was on Friday.
The staff though I must say were with the exception of the manager polite and tried fruitlessly to help in most situations.
I could go on and on, this is the worst hotel I have stayed in for over a decade. Its a shame as some of the other Pali one's are actualy quite nice. This is drab, badly designed and terribly run. Let's hope someone reads this and does something about it.

On arrival we were told breakfast and coffee would be served in the dining area. Next morning there was no breakfast and a VERY rude lady on reception told us she was covering from another hotel and there was no breakfast as restaurant is closed.

The kitchen area had two old pastries sitting in it which I guess were left over from the previous day. So I told her the hotel description and the check in had both mentioned hot drinks and breakfast. Again she said no you are wrong . By this time 3 others guests had also come down for breakfast as they had also been told and had expected it as part of their reservation. I then said I would like to discuss a deduction on the bill as we booked for the convenience of breakfast location etc. She said her manager would let us all know.

Then we paid $27 for breakfast elsewhere. The worst part is when we checked out the bill was as expected but the my Amex has a $100 more added to the bill. So this needs to be refunded ASAP. Exactly $100 was added that I never signed for, authorised or should be paying for any reason.

The room was also freezing which got adjusted and the toilet handle flush was not working correctly.. in less then 24hrs we saw 4 different people on reception so no continuity.

Also when we checked out at 11am. As if by magic hot drinks had appeared in the kitchen area.

Dishonest and misinformed lady on reception has left me very disappointed with the experience and I am still waiting for a response to the $100 refund now owed for the overcharge

I'm coming to LA a lot, and I've been staying at the Palihotel Melrose since 2016 I believe. In my eyes this hotel has the best value you can get. The location is perfect, they offer parking in the garage, but you can also easily park on the streets / neighborhood. The GM and his team make the biggest effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Even now during COVID. This time I stayed more than a week and it felt like home I have to say. I will definitely be back very soon :)!!

I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were impeccably clean, the decor was really fun, and the staff is so courteous and helpful. I checked in with the help of Juan late one night and he was so accommodating and efficient! The entire staff was very friendly -- from the cleaning people, to those working in the cafe, to the front desk staff. My dinner at the cafe was delicious. There are little nooks throughout the hotel that are great for working. What a nice surprise this hotel was!!

Bryan looked after us and made our stay without a doubt. The service he gave was fantastic as well as showing genuine interest in us. PaliHotel was our favourite hotel of the trip, great style and cleanliness, totally understood that Covid has temporarily disabled their restaurant, wasn't an issue.

Our only problem was the aircon, not having our own aircon and it being a building wide system meant we were left freezing some days. Perhaps a cheaper solution is to put shutters in the rooms on the vent so the guest can choose to block it off or have it open. (I'll take a free stay anytime for the money that just saved off a new system ;) )
