This is a nice hotel. A nice hotel in an awesome location.

I don’t want to give anyone wrong impression by talking up this tilt’s location. This hotel is nice. It’s clean. The staff is professional. Rooms could be bigger but they’re roomy enough. Checkin: fine. Checkout: fine. Parking is funky. It might be more than you want to spend if this hotel was in a standard location.

But…

Tilt is in an awesome location! You’re close to Hollywood. You’re close to the hills. Close to the zoo. Close to the observatory. The neighborhood has all the shops, stores and restaurants you’d want.

And…

You are so close to universal. Like ridiculously close. Could you be closer. Sure. But you’d also pay more (for amenities you’re probably not using cause you’re doing tourist stuff). So, yeah price per proximity: I totally recommend staying at Tilt.

First, I need to say that I usually lodge in 4 to 5 Star Hotels, but there was no availability nearby for my work conference at the Hilton. This was the alternative that the Convention Event provided and I booked one night.

This hotel is on a very busy street across from the freeway so consider the noise level of that. Parking is limited and will run you approximately $25/night. No valet. Check in is at a section entitled "Box Office", which threw me off just a bit, but I realized that it was a part of the Hollywood theme. The front desk workers were very helpful and kind.

My room was Average. Tile floors throughout, white linens, and clean surfaces. I did see a few hair strands here and there. There were a few small faint spots on the white bed covers, probably the type that never come out no matter how much you wash. I went to open the drapes and did notice that they had not been cleaned for possibly years. At that point, I was glad the floors were tiled. The fixtures aren't up to date due to rust stains where the nails are located (ex. toilet roll holder, towel rack, etc.) There was some missing caulk in some of the seams of the shower tile.

The bed was bouncy/springy yet soft, but I figured it was an older mattress. The mattress pad helped me feel better about the possible age of the mattress. The thing that was a little annoying about my stay was the fact that the outlet plugs were very dated. I could not plug in my iPhone charger into any outlet in the room except for the alarm clock. Whew!

Overall, the hotel is Average. If the owners wanted to charge more and make even more money off of the Tilt Hotel, they would have to do a moderate renovation and keep the facilities up to date. It's close enough to Universal Studios to get a lot more high level traffic and better reviews.

Although I couldn't quite sleep well due to some of the uncomfortable nuances about the room itself, I have to say the staff was great! However, I will not be staying there again unless they did a moderate renovation to ALL of the rooms and facilities.

We stayed here for two nights in what was supposed to be a suite, but was actually just two hotel rooms with a door in between we unlocked. It was ok, but just your average rooms, not as nice as what is pictured on website. Looking out the windows of room on the side we were on was a little unsettling. Graffiti and obvious signs you are in a shady part of Hollywood. Upon our arrival we were quickly feeling nervous. Its outside front appearance looks as though you are entering some dark club or something of that sort. Once you get off the elevators and enter the floors wher the rooms are it is much better appearance and has nice pictures of hollywood stars and such on the walls, clean and brighter vibe. The hotel staff in general was helpful and allowed us to leave baggage up front while went out after check out for a bit. The pool area was ok, but in need of some maintenance. Grab and go breakfast was good. I would however recommend staying up closer to Universal Studios in that area. We walked in the rain up to Universal from this hotel and it was a bit if a walk and had to cross some busy freeway entrances and streets. There was no shuttle. We had too many people with us for an uber and the Metro was not reliable at all. We got stranded in Hollywood because the Metro cancelled the bus for the day at the stop we needed to go back. This was a nightmare story... Anyway, if on an extreme budget go with this, but would try to come up with a few extra dollars and stay up on the hill near Universal.

Dear Angie, Thank you for your review. Although we are glad to know that you liked our grab-n-go breakfast offering and found our staff helpful and the interiors of our hotel clean, we are disappointed to hear that you did not experience the usual level of satisfaction that other guests have with their stays with us. We apologize for the aspects of your visit that fell short of your expectations, and we appreciate you sharing your feedback with us as this allows us the opportunity to improve future guest satisfaction. We take guest feedback very seriously, and we will put all your comments to good use for the betterment of the guest experience. Also, while we don't have much control over the beautification of the area that is not a part of the hotel property, we strive to maintain a high standard of upkeep and cleanliness inside the hotel. It is disappointing if a guest leaves with less than first-rate experience - this is very unlike us. We sincerely hope that you will give us another chance down the road so that you can see our continuous improvements. Best Regards, Customer Care Team

No shuttle to Universal even though booking through Universal says it does. It's about a two-mile walk, half uphill, to get to Universal and after a full day at the park the last thing you want to do is walk back. Parking on site is charged $27.50 per night which isn't mentioned when booking through Universal. You're better off booking at a hotel further away and paying for parking wherever you go. The very basic "breakfast" is a two-hour window from 7 am to 9 am but food runs out quickly so get there early. The toaster and orange juice dispenser were broken. The indoor pool is small with cloudy water. The shower and toilet are in the same room so it's one or the other while the family waits. The towels are small, so you'll need extras. There are very few open plugs in the rooms if you need to charge your phones or devices and the tv cable only, not a smart tv so you can use your apps. There's only one person at the front desk and they disappear from time to time.

I do not recommend staying At this hotel, unless you want your items to be thrown away by the cleaning staff. First day there my boyfriend and I go to universal for Valentine's Day we comeback and we noticed things have been thrown away or taken. The next day I went looking for my medicine for anxiety and could not find it anywhere. I went to check my car it was not there either. I never asked for my room to be cleaned nor do I think it was necessary to clean because I was only at the hotel for one day. I went to the lobby to ask if anyone cleaned my room, the worker called the maid and she said she did not clean my room. I asked to see camera footage but he said he does not have access to them. but the lobby worker did say on their track sheet it's says the maid did clean my room! My medicine I left in front of the tv!! No where near the garbage. I am 6 hours away from home where am I going to get a refill!! This problem could have been avoided with simple common sense. The lobby worker reimbursed me for my medicine which I appreciate. What makes me so upset is the fact it is so inconvenient to me because I have to cut my vacation short due to not having my medicine.
I will never stay at this hotel again because I do not feel comfortable leaving my items in the hotel room I PAID FOR. I'm very disappointed I'm sure this would not happen at the Hilton. Do better hotel Tilt !!!!

Me and my wife came here for Valentine’s Day and when we went out the cleaning staff came into our room and threw away or stole various items. These items were not garbage, for example one of the things was my wife’s medicine which she needs everyday. So I don’t recommend coming to this hotel unless you plan on leaving nothing inside your room because there is a high chance of it being taken.

If you are looking for a review that helps you make a decision, listen up! I don’t know who is giving this place 5 stars, but they are lying. Either they were compensated or are fake because this place is terrible. This is not the hotel you want for you or your family.
We have stayed at dozens, if not hundreds of Choice hotels and this was is the absolute worst.
We booked this hotel for a family trip to Universal Studios because it is close, but not walking distance because it would require you to cross over the freeway.
We booked the family suite that was supposed to have 2 bathrooms. When we arrived we were informed that that room was not available and they only had a room with 1 bathroom. The only reason we booked the room is because we needed 2 bathrooms. It was after 10 0m when we arrived after a long day at Universal, so we had time to try to find another place to stay. He gave us no option but to get 2 separate rooms for an additional $200. So we reluctantly took the room that was not what we had already reserved and prepaid for.
Little did we know that this would only be the beginning of our problems. The room itself was actually 2 adjoining rooms and not an actual suite. It also only had 1 working bathroom, with the other bathroom walled off. Also, one of the rooms had NO windows. I have never seen a hotel room with no windows. Iw was dark and damp, like a cave. The ceiling of the room was so low I could touch it and I’m only 5’4”. Everything metal in the bathroom was rusted over, including door hinges, sink and towel racks. There was black mold on the sink, tub and walls with paint chipped or bubbled up. Everything else was covered in thick dust. The furniture was chipped and worn, there were holes in the walls, stained sheets, I literally have never seen a worse hotel. That morning, although we didn’t dare touch it and practically ran out the front doors, the breakfast looked disgusting. There was milk and spilled coffee all over the breakfast bar with no one attending it. The lobby was a mess with breakfast trash everywhere. And the icing on the cake is the price of this place, $300 a night! We are Choice Privileges Platinum members so we complained to member services. The manager refused to give us a penny and only offered us some rewards points to use for another stay.
There is nothing good about this hotel and honestly it should be shut down. You do not want your family in this place

Dear Guest, We regret to hear about the challenges encountered during your stay, especially with the mix-up in room availability and the condition of the accommodations. It’s disappointing to know that the room didn’t meet your expectations and that the amenities were not up to standard. The issues with the bathroom, room condition, and cleanliness are certainly not reflective of the quality we strive to provide. Additionally, the state of the breakfast area and lobby is concerning and not indicative of our usual standards. We appreciate your feedback regarding the room issues and cleanliness concerns, and while we understand the offer of rewards points did not meet your expectations, we are committed to improving our services and addressing these specific areas to prevent similar situations in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope for the opportunity to better serve you in the future. Best Regards, Customer Care Team

Sometimes hotels are walking distance but not walk friendly. The walk from The Tilt to Universal studios is safe and easy so you can save money over parking at the park. The customer service was above and beyond. There is a pool and free breakfast. I think we will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is low end. It’s hidden and it doesn’t have a family feel to it. They don’t have pictures of the outside of the hotel for a reason. We stayed 3 nights and no one came to change the sheets or to give us more towels until the 3rd night. We also got this strange call from the lobby while we were visiting Disney land saying if they can check our rooms to see if our lights worked… weird. Also the walls are very tin so we couldn’t get good sleep because people upstairs had kids running around. Not good if you need to rest for a full day in a theme park and come to the hotel tired.

This has to be the worse hotel in LA! Do not waste your money! Our room had potential black mold in the bathroom, and the front office staff was rude. The toiletries provided did not have a safety seal on them. My daughter ended up getting headaches every day we were there. When I told the front office staff about the mold and showed them pictures, all she said was “ok”. Not okay!!! I would have liked to heard an apology or that you will take care of it for the next guest! I would NEVER stay here AGAIN and recommend you spend the extra money to stay somewhere that is actually walking distance to something! Best thing about this place??? The Starbucks across the street and the free water, so that is not saying much!
