Hotel's Favourite

We just returned from the Conrad Los Angeles after a 7 night stay. Here are my thoughts:

Rooms are beautiful and spotless and well appointed. Over the course of the week we shifted from a standard room to a suite and the views were stunning in both rooms. Location is great (near USC which is why we stayed there).

Staff is unbelievably kind and helpful and they really do their best to help with any and all requests.

Restaurant is great for breakfast (we booked through Amex FHR). Prices are quite high though so beware ($10 for half an avocado is absurd but I ordered it anyway).

Areas to improve:

-The lighting system is very confusing and even my techie husband found it challenging.
-Parking is ridiculously expensive ($60 or so per night) and is valet only, which isn't convenient.
-Restaurant breakfast would be even better with a few healthier options.

Overall this was one of my favorite hotel stays and we'll return for sure.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful one night stay at this location in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We booked through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program so we received some perks that were included through that program. The team at the hotel graciously reached out to us prior to our stay to see if we were celebrating any special occasion and we were delighted upon our arrival to see that they had left us some special treats, champagne as well as left some decorations in our room. We received a beautiful room upgrade overlooking the Disney Concert Hall with an amazing view. All of the staff at the hotel was very gracious and welcoming and the rooms were spacious and well appointed. The shower was great, beautiful with plenty of water pressure. The food on the premises is excellent, yes it is pricey but if you are there for a special occasion it's worth the splurge. We very much enjoyed breakfast at San Laurel, the avocado eggs benedict with jamon serrano was superb. We had lunch at Agua Viva out on the rooftop patio with beautiful views and the food and drinks were delicious. We did take advantage of the pool area for a brief period of time, the pool was heated and the area was well kept. There didn't appear to be anybody monitoring the pool area for drink service, several employees came by on the exterior of the pool gate but none stopped by to check in on us. Not a big deal for us as we were only there for about an hour anyway since it got chilly. Just a disclaimer for those that are hoping to access both the fine hotels and resort benefits combined with any Hilton status benefits. This particular property does not let you stack those benefits. I do appreciate though that they were upfront with that when they reached out about our reservation. The hotel is well situated downtown, a quick rideshare or short walk to various restaurants in the area.

I stayed here for a week in August for work and overall enjoyed my stay. Hotel is brand new and is beautifully decorated throughout. Staff was warm and friendly, especially the bellmen and front desk. Had a nice room on 23rd floor overlooking the Disney concert hall and saw beautiful sunset skies over the city. A few minor cons were with housekeeping—I scheduled for housekeeping a few times during the week since I was working in the room. The first time I had to chase someone down to clean my room (asked for cleaning at 5:30 pm, no one came and didn’t clean til 8). I had asked if there were limited hours for housekeeping but was told it was 24/7. Another time I scheduled for 11 and early afternoon and room was cleaned. When I asked for another late afternoon clean on my last day, housekeeping never came. I was checking out the next day so just let it go. But was annoying to wonder if housekeeping would come. Another day my tv froze—engineer came to fix it pretty quickly which was good. Turndown service was not consistent. Sometimes they came by to offer water and other times they didn’t. Pool was amazing. Great size and friendly staff. I would def recommend staying here for work/play if you need to be in DTLA but the retail part is not really open yet so was a hassle trying to get little things for convenience purposes. Otherwise in a clean and “safe” part of DTLA though you do run into erratic homeless people in every direction but it was less in this area. Also the minibar is sensitive and if you open it it charges since it has weight sensors. Reception took off the charge but I heard this happened to other guests when I was checking in and out. The drive way entrance is on 1st street, need to make a right on Grand Ave to 1st to see the driveway to hotel then take elevator up to the lobby on 10th floor.

We stayed 1 night at the Conrad Los Angeles on 1/6/23 to 1/7/23 using the American Express FHR program. With the FHR we were given an early check in, room upgrade, $100 dining credit, $60 breakfast credit, and late checkout. We checked in around 2pm. We booked 1 studio room which was upgraded to the corner suite room. Due to it being on the corner of the building, the room was not that big, but it did have a great view of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Amenities were very basic. Other 5 star hotels usually give high quality shampoo, body wash, conditioner, etc. in small hotel size bottles. In Conrad Los Angeles, all we got was cheap looking shampoo, conditioner, and body wash inside the dispensers. When we returned back to our room, we were given complimentary macarons which tasted very average. We had dinner and breakfast at the San Laurel. See my San Laurel review for more information. After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel around 1pm. Overall, the staffs were pretty nice.

However, after I checked out of the hotel, I noticed that my body started to itch. I had really bad rashes all over my body. I do not have any kind of food allergy. I did not have any issue with other hotels. The only correlation to the rash I could think of was Conrad Los Angeles. When I contacted them, they only sounded concerned at first. They told me that they looked over their food ingredients and found no fault. They also said that there is third party company that investigate the room, but they did not call them because the hotel is still relatively new. They are basically telling me that it is not their fault and not their problem. I am still suffering from the rash that they caused, but they don't seem to be concerned at all. In the end they don't care about customer's condition or experience once the guest check out.

PROS: Good vibe, very Miami, lovely design throughout. I had a beautiful view of Walt Disney Concert Hall. Shout out to Matt at the front desk who knows how to deal with clients and Charlie in valet, who had a smile and was very helpful with my car. Beyredo bathroom products are a nice touch.
CONS: In my 2 day stay I NEVER received housekeeping service. No turn down service (I was told at check out it’s because I stayed 1 night. What??) The next day, I left my room at 9am, put on the ‘make up room’ sign, came back to the room at 2:30 and found that the room had NOT been made up and my breakfast tray, from 7am, was still there. Reminder, I still haven’t had housekeeping service in 24 hrs, so towels are now building up in the bathroom, I’m wiping down surfaces…
Speaking of In Room Dining, options are limited, menu is small and tray service is inconsistent. Dinner had flowers, salt & pepper, NO water glass nor was asked if I wanted a drink. Breakfast came with no flower, no salt and pepper, no water glass, I was never asked if I wanted coffee either. I compare it to a jail cell tray food delivery, sparse…for $95 (fruit, bread basket, avocado half) .
Will I return? Probably not.

My recent stay at the Conrad Los Angeles was good overall with the following exceptions:

Room Wall switches should be illuminated to prevent one from mistakenly operating the shades unintentionally when using the bathroom at night

Restaurant food quality should be improved. Delivering coffee to a table without creamer can be done better otherwise coffee sits, cooling for 3-5 minutes while creamer is found.

Calling coffee that was prepared 30-40 minutes earlier shouldn’t be found in a luxury hotel. Fresh is fresh!

Rooms service was incredibly confusing and intrusive. On my anniversary date we had three visits from staff wishing to check our room bar. The fourth was turned away.

Rooms are equipped with sensors in the snack drawers. Touching/lifting one of these items will automatically trigger a charge against the room. On day two I had $75 worth of charges when I didn’t remove anything. The bill was submitted but staff quickly removed those charges. Sadly this is a poor decision by management to have a system that provides incorrect bills at a luxury hotel.

Billing, based on my previous comment, can be improved to have accurate billing 100%.

Restaurant food prices were reasonable but quality of food didn’t always reach the luxury hotel category.

Reaching the front desk from the street requires an elevator to the 10th floor. Departing to the street requires a change from one elevator to a second.

The location, cleanliness, and maintenance of the hotel met or exceeded our expectations.

Let’s start with the check in. Noah was extremely helpful, even walking me to the elevator to give me a hot tip on how to use the shower. Once in room, it’s clear a ton of thought went into the space. Each drawer has a purpose and is organized as so. Bonus points for including a kettle. The shower is exceptional. Set your temperature, pick your water source, hit the button and let the cleaning begin. Again, what service! I forgot my toothpaste and the staff had a fresh tube sent to me within 5 minutes of asking. The location is fantastic if you’re looking for very easy access to The Broad and all the performing arts venues Los Angeles has to offer. You’re also a short walk to Little Tokyo and the north side of the Arts District. As a former Downtown LA resident I’d happily stay here again.

I was very excited to try this new hotel, but sadly when we arrived there was a tv controller missing and no shower gel! When we requested it be rectified with the cleaning crew, they did not arrive to clean the room the next day and no fresh coffee, soap or anything. Hotel check out staff where unfriendly but did make an effort to comp a drink at the bar for the inconvenience.

I would recommend the check out team be more friendly to guests.

I would like to thank the Conrad Los Angeles for the excellent staff they have employed. I have been to the Conrad in New York and also in Las Vegas, but the Conrad Los Angeles is the closest for me. I am having some construction done at my house, which prompted our stay for a few days with our dog. I love the Conrad Hotel, guests are treated with so much respect. As we entered the room, our dog, a senior chocolate Lab (14 yrs old) had such a cute bed waiting for him. I didn't take a picture of it, I wish I did, it was so cute. One of the ladies that worked in housekeeping named Andrea, was so wonderful with Charlie (our Lab). She gave him so much love and attention, and even ordered him a plate with two doggie bone shaped cookies. Andrea was awesome, she made sure that we were well taken care of and were very comfortable. She is very caring.
The next day I decided to make a cup of coffee and couldn't get the Nespresso to work properly. A lady from housekeeping was right outside in the hall, unfortunately I didn't get her name, I asked her to come inside the room and check the machine. She did, and ended up calling someone to bring up another Nespresso because the one in my room didn't work. Edgar Contreras from housekeeping or guest services came up and brought me a brand new Nespresso, and it worked perfectly!
On the last couple of days, we had the pleasure of having Doris service our room. She was very friendly and very thorough. I always enjoy our stay at the Conrad!
Also I would like to mention Cecilia, the hostess in the San Laurel restaurant. Cecilia was absolutely a blessing and a terrific hostess. She was so kind and pleasant with such a great personality, and made sure we were seated at a table that we were comfortable at. Rotanna, I'm not sure of the spelling of her name, was an excellent server. She always came by and checked to see if there was anything we needed.
Can't wait to come back and stay at the Conrad in Las Angeles!

Beautiful brand new property located in DTLA but definitely needs to work on a lot of things. It being new and clean is the only reason for the 2 stars.

First of all, it was never explained to me in regards to any credits(for status, “destination fee” that they charge but didn’t bother to mention, or for the package I purchased through AMEX), hours of operation for any of their amenities offered.
Staff overall needs training, when I asked the front desk about the operating hours of the pool, all I got was “they just changed it yesterday so I’m not too sure” and when I asked for directions in the garage I was told “it’s my first day your guess is good as mine, it’s my first time down here”. You just can’t make this stuff up….

Second, it was hard to get the attention of the bartenders by Agua Viva. I had to flag down one of the busboys to literally ask for one of the bartender’s attention. By the pool, it took nearly 20-25min to get our drinks and by the time I got my beer it was warm. Second round of drinks received were completely different from that we ordered and we had to wait another 20 minutes for the correct order to come out. There were no apologies, no expedited process to correct the wrong doing, just waiting and waiting. By that point, we decided to cut our trip to the pool short because we were near our dinner reservation time.

Third, I had guaranteed 4pm late checkout. But housekeeping decided to make it their mission to stop by my room every hour or so. I was awoken up in the morning, after breakfast when I came back to the room to change, then from my nap, and lastly when I was getting out of the shower unclothed they walked in. I probably would not be able to keep my composure had it been my girlfriend but when I decided to finally let the front desk know of this, the response was extra time for check out with a brief generic apology. This certainly isn’t something I would expect from such premium brand of Hilton, I was so shocked that I didn’t even have time to be mad or to complain. I just wanted to leave the property as soon as possible, I declined their offer of extended check out and requested for my folio and left.

Now I’m not too sure if I expected too much, which can really be the case. But for the amount of money they’re charging, I feel that guest expectations should be high and the property should very well be able to deliver. However, instead, staff are inadequately trained, makes the guest wait on their time, and provides a traumatizing experience.

Overall, makes me feel like the property just isn’t worth it.
