I stayed at The Wayfarer over the weekend of Sept. 11. It was a pretty nice stay, but I don't think I will stay there again for a few reasons. Nothing incredibly bad happened there, but I just don't think it was the right hotel for me.

The hotel is in a great location for DTLA. Near the Metro stops and had plenty of chain restaurants nearby (Subway, iHop) and other local places as well. A Ralph's was a less than 10 minute walk away. Parking was also no problem. There's plenty of parking decks nearby and overnight parking ranges from $22-$44.

Checking in was easy, but the deposit was $100 a night. The stay can get a bit pricey if you're staying longer than a night or two.

The room was nice and honestly not as small as other reviews made it seem. It was plenty of space for me and my other friend! There's stickers on the door that will break once the door opens so you can see that your room hasn't been touched and has been sanitized.

We stayed in a King sized room. The bathroom was very nice with a waterfall shower that looked very futuristic. More channels on the TV than a usual hotel. When we needed extra towels, the front desk took great care of us and brought them to our room! No comment on housekeeping since we didn't stay long enough to have it.

Now, for the downsides. There's no microwave or fridge available for use. There's also no irons in the room (maybe they were upon request??? I didn't ask because I just decided to to choose something else to wear). Our room had a great view of the nearby rooftops. Speaking of the rooftop, this place also has a rooftop bar, but you had to make reservations to go. I understand that because of COVID-19, but I think telling people when they reserve the room would be more beneficial if somebody really wanted to go. Luckily, it wasn't my first time in LA, so I wasn't sad I couldn't go. The bed was alright, but the pillows were great.

All in all, if you don't have a reservation for the rooftop, this hotel is really just a place to sleep but not to really relax or lounge around in. I am unlikely to stay here again just because I don't think the money I paid gave me anything out of the ordinary.

Dear Tandra, Thank you so much for taking the time to write an amazing detailed review! Our staff takes great pride from all guest feedback. We do not have irons but steamers that were normally in all guest rooms prior to Covid-19 are available upon request. We also appreciate you visiting our beautiful rooftop and yes we did have to reduce the capacity due to Covid. This is a great reminder to let our reservations team know about mentioning availability for the rooftop when we do re-open. We are still in the process of opening our beautiful property and are looking forward to activating outlets and hosting more events to add that value for all our guests. Happy Holidays Tandra and hope to see again in the future! Sincerely, Daniel Vidales General Manager gm@wayfarerdtla.com

The check in was quick and easy thanks to HeeSun (I’m not sure of the spelling of his name). He informed of us when brunch is served at the Rooftop and that reservations should be made. Once we got to our room there were a few things we were a little disappointed by. The room noticeably does not have a space to store your suitcase/clothes. There is no closet or drawers to put your luggage or clothes into.

There is only one waste basket in the room so if you need to discard anything, you will put it away in the bathroom.

Another noticeable item missing in the room was hand soap. This is a biggie dealing with COVID-19. There was no hand soap in the bathroom at all. There was a package of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand sanitizer in a package located under the bathroom sink but no soap which we thought was odd.

The rooftop lounge is very nice. The staff is pleasant and friendly but reservations are highly recommended. We were able to get squeezed in when we went up to check out the space after checking in which was nice and appreciated.

At least one food item is required with drinks so come with a little room for food. If you are not from California, the prices can be a bit on the high side. We paid about $53 for 2 margaritas and 6 small beignets.

At the time of our visit, the governor of California restricted indoor dining to outdoor eating only. However, due to the lack of space/options in our room to enjoy our dinner we opted to eat dinner in the lobby area which had ample table and seating available only to be told that we could not eat there. It was disappointing but we understood that we had to adhere to the current conditions so we took our food to our room to eat on the one stool and ottoman we had available.

We parked at the lot within a few feet of the hotel. The sign said $6 for parking up to 3am but once you stay overnight, it will be $25 at checkout.

Overall we had a great stay! At check in we were welcomed warmly and were even gifted an upgrade for my birthday. Room was very clean, bed was comfy, and we loved the rooftop bar! The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars was for a couple small details. We had called requesting more towels, the employee questioned us as to why we requested so many and I guess could only bring a certain amount. Additionally, the staff in the hallway early in the morning were very loud, yelling out orders to people and knocking loudly which was disrupting. Other than that I really enjoyed our stay!

We checked in this past Saturday evening, July 25th. When booking the room we knew the hotel would pick the room for us, which was fine. When arriving to the hotel we asked if we could upgrade since there was 3 of us and originally had a one bed king room and the front desk attendant/manager said yes for 40 dollars more each night we could have the room with 2 queen beds, we agreed to upgrade. She said she upgraded us to the highest floor with 2 queen beds, we make our way up to the room and the room has a sticker on it (which most hotels do now since COVID) saying how the room has been cleaned and sanitized. We walk in the room and set our bags down and within 1 minute we noticed ants all along the wall leading to the bed. With a room being cleaned and sanitized, we were highly upset and worried that our visit wouldn't be comfortable since this room wasn't cleaned and sanitized properly. We called down to the front desk and they sent someone up to remove us from the room and said they upgraded us to another room. We get to the other room and its the exact same room (no upgrade) just without the ants. The next day our room keys didn't work so we had to go back down to the front desk and get a new set. They did make a accommodation for us for not charging us the extra 40 dollars a night but after speaking with the manager, we felt they should have done more, especially in a time like this where sanitation and cleanliness should be priority and checked before allowing guest to go into the room.

In reviewing your reservation, it does appear that we extended a complimentary upgrade to a room with two queen beds. However, we're sorry to hear about the ants in the room when you arrived. Our housekeeping team does thorough inspections of each room and places the door seal as an indication of that. I can assure you that our team is trained to not pass a room with ants in it so I'm sorry to hear that they arrived after we inspected it. It does sound like the team took appropriate measures by making an adjustment to your bill as compensation. We hope to have the opportunity to knock it out of the park should you allow us the chance.

Wayfarer Downtown LA describes itself as a boutique hotel but this is just another way of saying awful. This is without a doubt the worst hotel my husband and I have ever stayed in and we have stayed in some dives before.

Upon arrival we were actually greeted by polite and friendly staff, it started off initially well but it didn't take long until we hit our first issue. Upon arrival we were informed of a tourist tax which was over a hundred dollars, an expensive tax but we were fine to pay it as we understood this was the case in a lot of places. They were keen to push that the charge included the cost of the Wifi, $25 credit each day towards food and drink in the hotel and fitness classes in the morning. Then they informed us that they were also going to hold $400 from our card that we provided them with until the end of our stay in case we incurred any additional charges. So kind of them to basically take the rest of our holiday spending money and leave us with only the cash in our pockets for the rest of the trip - not a good start.

We then headed up to our room, the lobby area is lovely, well designed and open so we were looking forward to getting to our room but we were vastly disappointed. Our room was the bare necessities plus a stupidly designed bathroom. There was nothing in the room other than a bed and odd bedside tables. You don't get a wardrobe, safe, fridge. There is a frosted glass panel between the bathroom and bedroom, so if your partner goes to the toilet in the middle of the night you immediately get woken up. It is great....

During our stay, the Wifi that we were told was paid for as part of the tourist tax continuously didn't work. We were often thirsty in the room overnight due to heat/air conditioning however with no glasses provided or fridge to put a drink in this was a challenge. We did go to the bar in the lobby one evening to ask for some bottles of water for our room to which we were told we could't have any - just not something they provide and advised us to go to the Seven Eleven across the street instead. On top of this, they don't provide daily room service unless requested, not even just a quick pop in to empty the bin bags.

We informed the staff of our experiences on the way out and they did apologise and said they would refund the tourist tax as a gesture of goodwill. But of course, here we are over a month later with no sign of any sort of refund. This felt particularly like rubbing salt in the wound.

We don't write a lot of reviews but we felt we needed to inform others of this awful stay and advise you to steer clear of this hotel if you can. Although a lovely and modern designed hotel, with friendly staff, the practicality and way it is run overshadows it, equaling in an overall unpleasant stay.

I attended a conference with some friends / classmates and we booked a room with bunk beds as it seemed like a reasonably priced deal compared to other options within walking distance of the conference. The beds were very uncomfortable and had a soft mattress with very little support. There was no chair or place to sit in our room apart from on the beds. The staff at reception were very friendly, but I felt there needed to be more clarity on how to have the bathroom re-stocked, sheets changed, and towels replaced.
The hotel is centrally located and very modern in appearance and decor, but the uncomfortable mattress just really decreased my experience - I've slept on far better mattresses at hostels for a fraction of the price. Also, the hotel staff indicated we would get a $25 credit each day for use in the hotel restaurants, but I'm glad I double checked the bill as they forgot to give me the credit for one of the days. The rooftop bar is quite nice though the drinks are fairly expensive.
I would consider staying in a regular room if I travelled here again, but I hope they will replace the mattresses on the bunk beds.

My wife and I were informed when we checked in that we were charged a $25 amenity fee and that since there were no amenities we would be given a $20 credit that we could use in their bar and/or restaurant. Hmmm! We did not plan to use either and fortunately I had the intestinal fortitude to ask that they simply remove the fee and they did.
At 11pm the night of our one night stay we wanted to shower before going to bed. The water was less than lukewarm so I notified the front desk and though he promised to get back to me within 15 minutes with some kind of update he didn't so we went to bed hoping the water temperature would be adequate for a shower in the morning. It wasn't. Also that night we had to request drinking cups and an extra bath towel .. the room only had one towel and no cups. The empowered person at the front desk was kind enough to remove the $25 destination charge ... he looked for more charges to remove but the only charge left on our bill was the room charge and I guess discounting that was just not possible.
The room was small but that was ok ... we were there to only sleep. But the decor is very industrial with a lot of exposed concrete and uncovered light bulbs with clear glass and glowing filaments ... not warm and cozy. Yes, it was clean. No dresser or luggage stand. One 2 square foot table, chest height next to the bed. Very nice shower but useless without adequately heated water. Pleasant and responsive staff. Window shades are light-blocking and do that extremely well.

the atmosphere is great but that's about it. the service is very slow and had to call multiple servers to help us with our request. the chips and guacamole is simple and you're not gonna miss anything serving is so small also. the steak that was ordered medium came out well done. did not complain since i don't want to waste food. they will drown you with fries though( came in with steak )the beignets were rough not as soft like the ones i've tasted in new orleans. menu tems were limited and overpriced.

Surprised anyone would rate this place well. When we got there, one of our rooms was not booked so they moved my sister to a bunk bed room (why do they even have bunk bed rooms?). As he's moving the reservation, a young couple came to the desk and said when they entered their room someone else was already in it. That made me feel nervous about the locks on the doors and there wasn't an extra lock on the top of the door for extra security. The room was tiny, no wardrobe or anywhere to hang your clothes. The automatic lights in the bathroom woke me up everytime my boyfriend went to the bathroom. There was a couple of crackheads outside each day.
The real kicker is they charge an extra $20 fee PER DAY for their "amenities", wifi (who charges for wifi?), unrefrigerated water, and $10 off "coupons" for breakfast (id rather just go to the ihop across the street). Also coupons for beer and wine on their rooftop bar but I'm sober, so why am I paying for that?
