We arrived expecting the W-experience, but room product was minimalistic.

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations. A lack of signages meant some guesswork to get to the main lobby on the 12 floor.

Check in was smooth and friendly, with the front office staff offering us water (still and sparkling) for our stay. Suggest take more water if you are staying more than one night. Kudos to the front office staff for advising us not to go out at 1130pm to look for food. Instead to order in.

Key card in hand, we carded our way through the lift and to our room. Room is large, though I felt was sparsely furnished and lacked many amenities.

What it had…
Bathrobes
Hairdryer
Room safe
Iron
Well stocked Mini bar and fridge, including “couples pack”
Flat screen TV with options to hook in your Netflix and Amazon prime

What it lacked…
An extra couch or easy chair in the King room to watch TV. A rather large gap between bathroom wall and bed.
No in-room tea or coffee facilities (you can get free coffee and hot water from the lobby dining room)
Two shower gel bottles with different colored liquids; suspect one is the shampoo.
No amenities such as tooth brush, shaving kit, cotton buds and shower cap.
No separate shower head with hose in shower, or bidet function next to toilet.
Bath Towels were small in comparison to many like-minded hotels, and lacked “fluff”.
Air con was cold and kept the room at a desired temperature, but it was noisy switching on and off.
Difficulty in hooking on to the WiFi, with unclear options for Bonvoy members who are supposed to receive free WiFi.

Our king sized bed was comfortable and the pillows offered well supported our heads. A thick comforter was also provided.

The gym is pretty large with a a large array of cardio machines. There are some weight machines and a rack of free weights. There’s also a stretching area with mats and balls.

Overall an ok stay here, though I would find other hotels to stay in next time in Los Angeles

I stayed at the W Hollywood for nine nights. The hotel is expensive, and I considered cheaper and more costly alternatives.

You can get to West Hollywood quickly by bus and scooter, and the hotel is conveniently located above the Vine metro station, where you can get into downtown and to Santa Monica. You can hike up to the Griffith Observatory in the local area, about an hour from the hotel on foot.

The lobby is outstanding, with lots of relaxing seating options. The room was brilliant and decidedly spacious, with a thoroughly comfortable mattress. There is a large desk to do work and eat food; I regularly requested plates and cutlery to eat delivery food in the hotel; in some instances, it came quickly, and in others, I had to phone several times for this. The hotel should address minor damage to the leather furnishings, such as scratches on the fridge cabinet. The fridge and cabinet are stocked with a considerable quantity of heavily overpriced goods costing several times what they cost in the supermarket. I asked staff to remove them so I could put my provisions in; a staff member told me that there is typically a fee for this but that they will waive it on this occasion. How generous of them!

The shower room is spacious, but the bathroom products, although fantastic, are small and not replaced by cleaners as a matter of routine; I had to telephone the reception for additional shampoo and shower gel on several occasions. The shower head is fixed, and the water pressure is relatively low.

My two main gripes are the television and the view; my view was of a wall about 10 m from the window. The selection of television channels is abysmal. All channels are from the US, and there isn't even a single channel in Spanish. W Hollywood is the only hotel I've been to abroad without foreign channels.

Unfortunately, the hotel entrance, which leads to the Vine metro station, involves noticing some incredibly crude and objectionable behaviour. I saw adult men urinating and not being discreet about it metres from the entrance. There are many rough sleepers metres from the hotel entrance, which is sad and depressing. In one instance, I was dangerously threatened by a man that hassled me for twenty dollars as soon as I left the hotel entrance and walked down to the metro station; he was aggressive, and I was lucky that an altercation did not ensue.

I spent my last afternoon by the hotel rooftop pool; this was the only time I purchased food at the hotel, and it was terrific, albeit overpriced. The pool is tiny, but there are stunning views of downtown, about 10 km from the hotel.

When checking out, I rushed as I had to catch my return flight, so I quickly paid my bill by card. I realised I had a spare $34 in cash, which is useless to me at home. I asked a staff member if she would accept this cash and credit my card with the same amount. She said yes. This $34 has still not appeared on my card. I emailed the hotel not once, not twice, but three times until I got a response. The hotel now continues to ignore my request for these funds to be credited to my card. It has been four weeks since I checked out, and I continue waiting for this money. This is peculiar customer service for a Marriot hotel.

I consider myself fairly easy to please and will typically give a hotel 3 stars if the facility is clean and the staff are friendly. That was the case here so that explains the 3 stars. That being said, this was an issue-filled stay. To begin, I used the Marriott Bonvoy app to announce we would be arriving a little early, as the app gives you that option, but the person checking us in explained that that information does not get conveyed to the hotel and we subsequently had to sit around for a couple of hours until our room was ready. No big deal, as we figured we’d have lunch at the hotel restaurant, as the front desk suggested, but it turned out to be closed until dinner (really?) and we ended up just sitting in the large, open and quite drafty lobby area. When we did check in, the lines moved slowly because the staff both had to collect info from the guest as well as explain the “destination fee” guests were charged and options one thus was eligible to enjoy, e.g., Hollywood bus tours. We had no idea, by the way, that such a fee was being charged, but chose to just roll with it. We did eat dinner at the restaurant but it served dishes more on the upscale and pricey side and inexplicably served no simple fare like burgers or meals for kids; that sort of food was only available through room service. Our room was fine but it was down a long hallway that at times was dark and poorly lit. We at times had questions for the concierge but could never find him/her. I did finally find them in their office one afternoon around 4:30 p.m. but they told me it was their lunch hour and I should come back in an hour. When I did, and sought help in reserving a taxi for a very early flight the next morning, the polite and gentle suggestion was to just use my phone to order a ride via Uber. Finally, when we went to check out the next morning, the elevators did not work. I called the front as we had several bags, and they explained there had been a false fire alarm but they were turning the elevators back on. Ten minutes later with still no elevator, we schlepped down the stairs to the ground floor door, which opened not into the lobby but out onto the street, in the pouring rain. All in all, nothing just seemed really in sync.

I am at Titanium level with Marriott (which for the purpose of this review means I live in hotels). This hotel is a horror show.
I rarely review hotels online but want to warn others against spending $400 plus a night for this “four star” experience.
I stayed two nights. and experienced the following:

Valet is $76. You have no other choices.

My “titanium upgrade” was to a room facing a cement wall. The wall switch was falling off, the carpet was ripped and the plastic furniture looked like it came from a bankrupt Howard Johnsons from 1978.

The hotel is under MAJOR construction and they do not warn you. Check in is on the 12th floor next to a very noisy bar if you check in at night.

The path to check in is like one other writer mentioned on here…. black draping, no signs, a pathway on a filthy floor. People complained that only one person was manning the check-in desk.

After a 4 hour drive I had to call for a room service menu. I was brought a QR code. The menu was small and my $40 pork chop was deep fried (with the breading falling off). I have had similar in truck stops on the Alabama interstate.

There was no opener for the beer in the minibar nor a coffee maker. You had to go back to the 12th floor for coffee.

Breakfast was a $42 buffet on a Monday. There was no other option or restaurant in the hotel.

I worked until 3:30 and went to the same restaurant for lunch/ dinner and was told I couldn’t order entrees until 4. I saw a child eating spaghetti and asked if I could have that. The answer was no since it was child’s portion.

When I asked for a coffee maker in the room on the second day the paper cups they brought were too big to operate it.

No one made up my room.

All printed material you see remind you of the $29 “Destination Fee”. This destination is surrounded by tents at night and an unsafe feeling that you are on the set if a futuristic movie.

I am so surprised that Marriott lends its name to this hotel.

First off can not fault room. Spacious and comfortable othef then that stay wasnt a great experince. First off protests going on outside for the whole time we was their. No comuication from hotel until day before we was leaving offer us earplugs. They charge a $29 dollar destination fee per which is a big con they give you $29 dollar drink credit with this for the bar. We used it 1 day out of 4 and still got charged for the full 4 days we stayed there even though as we checked out we was told only be charged for 1 day. To make matters once we are based in Uk and when we called up to query the charge was left on hold and then Some snotty advisor told us get charged even if you dont use the credit then put phone down. Customer service us terrible they just want to scam you. Location is ideal for walk of fame but becarful yoy walk past alot of homeless people to get to and from the hotel and them areas stink of unrine. The hotel was also getting work done in the lobby so you have to check in/out on top floor and then go back down to get to your room. If we had been informed of this we would of switched hotels. Also impossible to put complaint in or send email to hotel. Only opition on website is to call.

I booked a 5 night stay for a total of $2400. After night one I received an alert from my Chase bank account. Multiple duplicate charges from W Hollywood was charged to my account for a total of over $5000. Although the manager Lena was apologetic and took full responsibility for the mishap. I was livid and concerned that W Hollywood was so careless with my personal checking account.
After the first night stay showering in the morning, there was no showering/bath supplies provided in my room. My room was booked for two yet was only provided one bottle of complimentary water. When I asked house keeping for more complimentary bottlers ofwater. I returned to find one bottle provided.
I’m 60 yrs of age and have stayed in luxury and basic hotels and B&B’s across the US. I would expect for $300 a night basic accommodations and debit card fee’s would be priority. Honestly was disappointed.

Right across the street from the pantages theater. Beautiful modern hotel. Room was amazing. The only thing is the bathroom has a 12 inch frosted window that is in the shower that is viewed through to the bedroom which freaked our teenagers. So we piled up out luggage in front of the glass and blocked it. Our room air conditioner rattled/vibrated a lot. Sounds like it’s missing the insulation/dampener around it. Parking is valet only $75. There is a parking structure next door and it’s $35 for 12 hours on spot hero. Shake shack is right across the street which is one of our favorite hamburger places. Definitely will be booking here again. It’s 10min away to universal studios. Great location!

If you ever want to stay at a place that is so LA it’s just…L’Ahigh, the W Hollywood would be that place. You may have a little bit of sticker shock but there’s a reason why, you get what you pay for.

They just recently remodeled, and I think it’s a little tongue and cheek that it went from a bold red interior to a muted green. The thought crossed my mind that it aesthetically looks like a great monument of decadence, was overtaken by nature.

I stayed at W hotels across the world and I have to admit this location has their stuff together.

When I checked in my room, wasn’t wet ready, and the gal, her name starts with a M and she has mushroom, tattoos, made me feel like I was an A-list celebrity.

The only real complaint that I have is that the pool doesn’t open until noon and for early risers that don’t want to just decline their liver efficiency, can’t enjoy a great amenity.

Thank you W Hollywood - I will be back soon!!!!

I am in utter shock. W Hollywood’s “W Insider” Lina is incredible. I honestly did not know the famous “Whatever, Whenever” was an actual thing. I thought it was a mythical marketing thing. No. It’s real, folks. Short story is my backpack, which had a $5000 computer and work set up, two sets of house keys, and expensive electronics inside plus other important personal items… was left behind when the bags were loaded from the storage closet into the car from the valet area. We did not know and just drove off… all the way to Palm Springs two hours away. We were exhausted from work and were not physically capable of driving back 2 hours at 11pm to arrive at 1am, pickup the backpack, then drive back to hopefully get to our destination at 3am. We already took a break on the way to have a 10-minute nap. When Lina found out what happened, she was incredible sweet, caring, compassionate, and listened to the whole ordeal. Once she realized the gravity of the situation with the expensive items and security/access concerns regarding our keys, she flew into action. She mobilized and coordinated her staff to gain approvals and coordinate a solution. The result was a creative (and extremely generous) push to find an Uber driver willing to drive 4-hours RT to deliver a package, as there were no options for mailing that would have gotten the backpack here in the next day before we would have to leave for the airport. Impressive problem solving! Somehow she convinced someone, got them to agree to take the package, and connected everyone on text threads to communicate and ensure successful delivery. It’s on its way right now, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’ve been an loyal Starwood, and then Marriott member for a long time, but I’ve never experienced service like this. Lina went above and beyond and blew my mind with her willingness and eagerness to help, which has resulted in a loyal W Hollywood customer for life. The W has always had a special place in my heart when I travel for business and pleasure. Memorable trips all over the world and impeccable quality. But this takes it over the top. I’m thorough impressed and Lina has earned my loyalty. People never forget when someone helps them in their hour of need, especially when they don’t have to. Thank you Lina, and I hope the W understands what they have in you.
