Nestled in a prime spot close to beaches, dining, and shopping, the Pacific Edge Hotel offers guests direct beach access and impressive ocean vistas. While the pools are appreciated for their cleanliness, some guests have voiced concerns about the upkeep of the rooms and pool amenities.
The staff's service receives mixed reviews, ranging from commendable attentiveness to disappointing negligence. Despite the cleanliness and scenic charm noted by many, the perceived value is diminished by the high costs and inconsistent room quality.

Detailed Reviews
Like most hotels in Laguna this hotel is an overpriced motel in a nice location. The hotel is not well maintained and feels dirty. You also need to pay 45 a day for parking and 30 a day for a resort fee. No one was actually looking after things at the pool or beach, no towels or attendants, umbrellas blowing in to people at the beach, nothing stocked in restrooms near the beach, I would expect more if I am paying a resort fee. The cold water on the sink in our room didn't work and outlets were uncovered. The sheets were hospital quality and the carpet looked very dirty. Not all the windows had black out shades and the walk way lights were so bright we could hardly sleep. The beach was pretty though and it is a good location for walking around town.

Diana, your feedback is invaluable and helps us identify areas needing improvement. It's regrettable that our scheduled maintenance and cleanliness did not meet your expectations. We take your observations about the pool area, beach amenities, and additional fees seriously, and will be discussing these matters internally. We also understand that your in-room experience fell short of your expectations, with setbacks in amenities and sleep comfort. On a brighter note, we're delighted you appreciated our prime location and the appealing beach. Your feedback is fundamental to our goal to enhance the overall guest experience. We have had the pleasure of visiting Pacific Edge 5 times in the past 4 years. Can’t beat the location, and the on-site Food and Beverage quality and service is hard to beat. We understand that Hotel Management has recently changed. Having been in the hotel business for the past 35 years, I understand how disruptive that can be. That being said I also understand how important the guest experience is and that is why I felt it important to share these details. Good news is all the fundamentals are there (Location-Oceanside hard to beat and Laguna Beach community is a true joy to experience). The challenges: At check in tv and phone in room did not work. Maintenance dispatched to fix both. Only tv fixed. And could not communicate with him. I do not speak Spanish. He spoke no English. In room maintenance poor. Balcony maintenance poor (chairs)Pool area maintenance poor. Pool depth markers not identified in meters or ft. Valet on night before ( Ryan - great Valet who we recognized from previous visits) departure (7/31) were asked to leave a message for next morning Valet that we wanted to have assistance with luggage at 6:45 am 8/1. (Remember our room phone did not work so we could not call Valet) At 6:45 am, when no one was at our room, I went to Valet only to find one young man asleep behind the desk. When he responded, he was very nice and retrieved our car and helped us with luggage. At $500 per night plus Resort Fee plus $45 per night Valet parking ( no parking options w/e of Valet) I would not expect to experience these flawed details. Expect too much? Sharing is caring

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The Pacific Edge sits on one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California.
They continue to maintain the resort and it is always a fun place to stay.
There are little things that could be improved:
The bathrooms just off of the beach are locked indiscriminately from time to time. Also, the beach attendant is always out of towels (even as early as 10:30 am) and the P.E. has recently initiated a "resort fee." For those of us who've been coming for decades, this seems a little forced as the ocean is the main amenity at this resort.
These are minor issues.
We choose the small rooms facing PCH. It used to be that a middle-class family could stay in the "Surf Wing" at a reasonable price. This is no longer the case. The rooms facing PCH are small and with two double beds nearly filling the entire space (not unlike a French "le Chambre") there is very little shelf space.
That said, who stays in a room when you have the beach just steps away?
Everything-- restaurants, bars, coffee shops, downtown, etc., are walking distance so once you park, you don't need a car. We chose to bypass the valet and after unloading, parked a couple blocks up the hill. I would only use the valet service if one has a handicapped person in their party.
In all, once you step down to the sand, look at the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and listen to the crumbling roar of the waves breaking, it is all worth it.
The Pacific Edge allows pets for those who what to bring them, and as I began this review, the beach area and ocean are absolutely gorgeous. Sadly, that costs in today's world.

Bstrasmann, thank you for your insightful feedback regarding your recent stay at the Pacific Edge Hotel. We are thrilled you appreciate our location on one of California's most stunning beaches and that you find our resort enjoyable and well-maintained. We take your feedback seriously and are already evaluating your suggestions regarding the availability of beach towels, bathroom accessibility, and our room configurations. Our resort fee aims to add value to guests' experience by facilitating certain amenities, and we regret if this wasn't clearly communicated. We are pleased your stay was largely positive, valuing our proximity to inviting local amenities and the unbeatable beachfront location. Your loyalty to our hotel over the decades is greatly appreciated, and we're committed to ensuring your future visits reflect the high standards you've come to expect. We look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable beach getaway. Jeroen Quint Managing Director

We flew into town for a beach trip for the family. The front desk allowed us to check in about five hours early, however, during that five hours we had six different housekeeper’s, knocking on the door and trying to enter the room with a key card even though they do not disturb sign was on the door. Does your staff not communicate with one another when rooms occupied earlier than typical check in? It was absolutely pointless for us to check in this early and rest after a long flight to be interrupted every 30 minutes by various staff members trying to come in and clean the room and telling us that we actually should not be in the room. On top of this we had to pay for that. The key cards to gain access for your hotel room never worked and had to be replaced daily. The staff was very passive, aggressive and blamed it on the fact that we kept the key card in our wallets or near our phones and said that they can be demagnetized buy electronics. We spent most days trying to keep the key card in a separate bag from all wallets and phones, to still end up, needing to get a new key card at the end of the day. On the last day of the trip on the beach, while chatting with other guests of the Pacific Edge Hotel, various other guess we’re struggling with the same issue with their key card as well. Looks like more of a maintenance and building problem than an issue with the customers. The walls in this building were incredibly paper thin. On several nights throughout this vacation, I could actively hear other guests of other rooms having bowel movements through the hotel walls, even their personal conversations with their loved ones. If you stay here, you will hear lots of loud noises throughout the night. The bathroom was dirty, and the drain never drained in the shower. When you shower at this hotel, you will be standing in about 3 to 4 inches of dirty water throughout the duration of your shower. It will then take about 4 hours for this to drain. This was reported to the front desk, and no one came to service it. This experience was awful and I wish I would’ve spent money elsewhere. They are various other boutique hotels along the beachfront in Laguna Beach that are way better. Spend your money elsewhere. For the quality of service at this hotel, it should not even be more than $100 a night. Even in the instance of us, entertaining to go to another hotel in the area, the Pacific edge is nonrefundable. So if you stay here you are out of luck.

Stayed in Bahia building, room 14. It was like we were in a time machine! The cabinets in kitchen and bathroom were from the 60s, popcorn ceiling, old broken furniture, and no smart tv’s. The view was nothing like it was portrayed on the website. Couldn’t see the beautiful view unless you were standing up. AC unit was filthy and broken, remote control in bedroom needed batteries. No TV or climate control in the 2nd bedroom for the kids, just an old fashion box fan. It was generally very noisy. Drunk neighbors woke us at 3am and the hotel leaf blower, the traffic and garbage trucks in the alley between our room and the beach, started at 7am every morning. No nice greeting, no one at front of hotel to park car or help with bags and no hope your stay was nice on the way out. Inconvenient valet was around the back, you had to bring your car to them and get charged about $38 plus tip every night.
However the housekeeping was exceptional even though the room was so old it was very clean, this was the only reason we stayed. Plus we were so tired and the view was nice even though it wasn’t what we expected from the misleading website. The room service food was also delicious and delivered in a prompt manner. Disappointed, and wouldn’t recommend or return.
Oh and by the way, there is no smoking or vaping anywhere inside or outside in all of the seaside city of Laguna Beach, CA.

Feel the ocean from your hotel room!
To feel the ocean , I go cruising or to the Pacific Edge Hotel. I chose this hotel because it is near the ocean. Close to the waves, if you have an ocean front room, and close enough if you don't have an ocean-view balcony. Try to get a room in off-season for a better price. The service is great, housekeeping, maintenance, and front desk manager Viq and the associates Irene and Alison can help you to enjoy the stay. The onsite restaurant is very popular because of the view and it has excellent food. Walk to the beach, walk on the beach and walk in the town, no need to drive a car. It looks like a private beach in the front of the hotel where you can get towels, chairs, and umbrellas, from the hotel. The plus for this hotel, it is pet friendly, but not like others, it is what a pet owner needs from a hotel, no hasle, just friendly. Make sure you don't walk the dog on the beach during the summer months, you may sneak the dog on the beach in the mornings and the evenings. The parking fee is a minus, which came in the last years, to align with the other hotels by charging a hotel fee. If you are a smoker, forget this hotel, because you can get a hefty fine. Do not smoke on the balcony. Finally, there is no alcohol allowed on Laguna beaches, even if you are 21. There is no smoking in any public area of Laguna Beach, CA, including its beaches.

Showers were not cleaned and when we informed them they did NOTHING.
We did not have wash cloths and when we requested some they told us they would send some up, and again they did NOTHING.
We of course asked again and still NOTHING !
The floors were not cleaned and filled with sand also.
We had an adjoining room with a barking dog which barked on and off for 2 days.
They did not move them or us !!!
And when we checked out ALL they offered us in compensation was to remove a $35 resort fee and $30 credit off our $104 breakfast for 3 people . Hardly enough compensation for such a horrible stay.
Obviously we will not be back !!!

I was disappointed with the stay, I originally booked a studio with a view, unfortunately I was assigned a studio in the middle of a car park I asked to change and was given a room in a new block where the ocean can only be seen from the outside and the studio was of very poor quality with no ocean view. Finally I was offered room with an ocean view (not a studio) and charged an additional $175 per night on top the original room rate nearly doubling the cost. The room in my option did not warrant this additional level of cost. Plus I was charged $45 a parking (no self Parking option) plus the valet expected an addition $5 every time I wanted access to the car this is unacceptable. $1108,88 for a 4 night stay in a twin room out of season especially when the room was, dirty, cold and poorly maintained Is in my a unacceptable and therefore I will be recommending the hotel is removed from my companies preferred Hotel listing for the laguna Beach area. Plus I was charged twice ($175 per night x 4) for the so called upgrade using two different payment methods I was assured a refund would be offered for the first payment but that has now been taken from my account along with the upgrade charge from a separate account ??

I stayed with my family in two "ocean view" rooms. I was pleasantly surprised that the ocean-view rooms faced directly to the ocean. Yes, it was behind/above other buildings so you do have those buildings in view but you could see over them to see the ocean quite nicely. Other "ocean view" rooms I have stayed at with other hotels, you can only see the ocean if you go out on the balcony (side view) or crane your neck out the window. So this was really nice! I liked that there were 2 chairs, a table on the patio, and glass on the patio rail edge for a nice view. It was a little cool as we still have a cool spring but the heater in the room kept it nice and toasty! The price was fairly reasonable for a beachfront hotel. The pool and jacuzzi were great and my kids had a great time. I appreciate that they did a proper job with the chemical balance as another hotel I stayed at did not which left my skin irritated. This one was great and zero irritation.
The location is perfect and you can easily walk to Main Beach, shopping, great restaurants - we at at Orange Inn (fresh baked pastries) and the new taco stand which is at the end of the block - highly recommend this taco shop by the way! Also easy walking distance to my favorite coffee shop and beach access via the hotel.
We had a few minor issues but the front desk agents, Dylan and Britt were able to quickly resolve them for us. Thanks again for the great work! We appreciate you!
One suggestion: please include a night light for the bathroom / hall area as it gets very dark at night with the curtains closed and turning on the lamp beside the bed can wake the other person. My boyfriend and I both were struggling to not bump into the hallway corner in the night on the way to the bathroom.

This hotel is an abomination, from the overall poor repair of the property, to our room. My friend and I stayed here 12 years ago with a good experience but not this time. Now, it appears they are a "resort" and I put the word in italics for a reason as they are far from a resort but, in any event, there is a $30/day resort fee added to each day of your stay. Our room was in the only building with an elevator. It was a room with two double beds and that is the only positive thing about this experience as the beds and bed linens were comfortable. The room's carpet was terribly damaged with dark footprint stains that had worn through the fiber of the carpet. The lamp shade was dirty and had holes in it, the drapes were coming off the rod, the dresser had damaged veneer and the drawers were unable to be opened. The bathroom vanity was also damaged as was the toilet seat which, laughably, had been "fixed" by painting over the gouges on the lid. How much could a new toilet seat cost? The closet had what appeared to be a shower rod with a drape instead of a door. There was no mirror except in the bathroom, nor were there even any wall hangings. The walls had been painted on an "as needed basis" so you could see where the paint roller left off in various places on the walls of the room. Walls are paper thin, and the plumbing is noisy. The pool and hot tub near our building were both dirty. I slipped on the top step of the hot tub because the stairway into the hot tub was slimy and there was that itchy feeling of the water on your skin because the PH balance was off. Because key cards are used to enter the pool area, it appears the pool has no closing time which leads to loud, noisy partying well past a reasonable hour. The floors in the elevators are dirty and worn, the outdoor landings carpet is dirty and worn, the metal doors and railings are rusty, and the wood used under the hand railings of the balconies is warped with peeling paint. After checking in, I had a text from the front desk welcoming us and hoping we were enjoying our stay. I replied with a list of those things that were not right in our room and could we move. The reply was that yes, we could move for an additional charge and not within our elevator building which did not work for us. Another text if they could do anything for us, and I referred them to "the list above" in my text and the reply was someone would reach out to me. No one ever contacted me after that. I don't appreciate passive/aggressive behavior. If they truly wanted to make things right, they would have.

Don't take this risk - it's filthy - stained bedding, carpet and couch. We do heaps of travelling and this place is the worst. I see there are good reviews - they must be fake reviews or the accommodation in a different group of buildings to where we stayed.

NO! It is NOT! I am here right now. It has been a horrible and EXPENSIVE experience.

Paradise Island, New Providence Island71 contributions2 helpful votesDoes anyone know if the pool and hot tub, if they have one, it’s open right now? How about restaurants?
We will be traveling there July 5-7 and I booked a Oceanview penthouse suite I think it is, but I’m worried that our room won’t be as nice as an ocean front room. The only reason I booked the room was because we have a baby and we will probably want to put her down early for bed and be able to close the door and sit in the other room and talk or watch TV for a little while, since she goes to bed at 8 and it’s my birthday! Amy suggestions??? Thank you! Alexandria Babington
I don’t know about the suites. I wish I had gotten one due to our room seeming pretty different then the pictures. Old furniture with cracks and a smelly bathroom. But the pool is open. And one restaurant was open and I think the other close by one was about to open. We were just there last week.
